Right then. My comment wasn't a rant at so called DJ's on the Soul scene ( note not just Northern ). Far from it but I just think that most of the folks on the Soul scene are'nt DJ's but are passionate collectors who play records to varying audiences & often get little or no credit for it & I'm full of praise for each & every one of them especially the one's who do it for the love of the music. Just to try to make my point let's see what folks would do if the following scenario occured (happened to me recently & if you were there you'll know what I did). Both decks go down but there's 2 CD decks that you can use. 1, you chat to the crowd & get a bit of banter going & try your best to entertain them. 2, you get a mate to run down to the car & grab a couple of CD's & explain what's happened & play some music off them until things are put right. 3, you stand there like a tool saying & doing nothing as you're a vinyl collector & wouldn't ever play a CD. Hell they're not my decks so it's not my problem. Now who is the DJ? 1, 2 or 3. See my comment above Nev & the video below, might throw a bit of light on what I'm on about. PS you ain't a dj as you didn't play any of my requests at Morecambe You can DJ at my wedding Simon (am I still the only person who books you in the UK ) & so can Kerri Chandler. 1 min 30 secs in. How's about that then Guy's & Gal's

Very few DJ's on the Soul scene, just a load of collectors who play music they like.
  3. Few wants, some easy, some not so but see how we go. Nicky Newarkers - Woman (seen the copy on the bay). Sideshow - Sexy Lady. Tyrone Thomas - You're Hardly Gone. Al 'Alonso' Wilson - Love You Girl. Jack Sass Band - Where Is The Love. & finally an easy one Teddy Pendergrass - I Don't Love You Any More. PM me with any info & thanks for looking. Mart...
  4. Might laugh Dave but it's a very rare record & have seen it go for more & have also heard worse pop/disco records played out. https://www.youtube.c...h?v=7I7TTvcvnAI Anyway is this a decoy to stop us seeing the other bits (Solid Gold Revue, Blair, Mojoba etc) Notice I didn't mention the Arnie Love.... Dam foiled again
  5. Forget the James Fountain. Have you seen some of the other stuff the guy's selling Time for the hammer & the piggy bank to meet me thinks

No need to close the thread as the original topic was interesting but can you ALL keep on topic.
  7. Cunnie replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
& records don't jump do they Not even going to bother commenting on the sound quality comment....
  8. No problem Rob. Just glad to put a few of you onto it while it's still cheap. Gonna give it some hammer in the Modern room at the Bridlington weekender as it went down a storm at Morecambe for me & more so for Dodger. Big question is though will you be brave enough to play it in the Northern room
  9. Seems some of you do listen then. Were around a dozen of these around in the usual places like gemm, discogs & the bay when I posted this on here, all for under £20 & now they're all gone.
  10. Thanks for the post Andy. Makes modding on here so worthwhile when story's like this get posted

  13. Mine plays fine but hisses on the out groove if thats what you call it on a 4" disc. While on the topic of Mayer Hawthorne he's on live tonight in Leeds & tomorrow in Birmingham. Well worth checking out & I wish I'd known earlier.
  14. Ya might be the smartass Ian but at least I had a room to go back to
  15. Cunnie replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
  16. Not doubting you at all Ian but have just played the Robbie Danzie version & the writers are credited as Mark Capanni & JAMES TAYLOR, not Bobby Taylor. Probably an error but you never know???
  17. This if ya quick & know where to look https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DGjVYJlUYM

Guess I'm wasting my time reccommending Beres's 'Let's Make A Song' album to you then Pete. Sort of on topic via the Reggae link played Marcia Aiken - I'm Still In Love at the Morecambe weekender on Friday. Filled the floor (new thread?). Got fed up of the Uniques yet fella???

    You mean Modern Reggae
  20. Some real bargains to be had there Wish I'd seen the Teddy Pendergrass - I Don't Love You Any More. If you've got another copy spare ( or anyone else for that matter) drop me a PM.

Yes there is - Carstairs Thought you'd like it Pete. After all you are our Reggae Mod
  22. Agreed Chalky. Thread seems to be more of an events plug to me. If thats the case it's a lokker unless folks can prove otherwise.
  23. Thank you for a well worded & thoughtful reply Boba. It really is appreciated. It does open a few cans of worms though especially the comments about no Soul being made now. I'm sure as a resident of Chicago you will know that a hell of a lot of Soulful House music hails from your fine City, now if that ain't soulful I don't know what is. I could go on for hours about the current Modern Soul scene & perhaps a visit to the essential Modern Soul ( EMS ) forum might open your eyes to new Soul releases. Don't think this thread is really the place to discuss it though as it's going wildly off topic & I am a Mod on here so have to set examples to the rest of the horrible bunch Just an example for you though is the Eli Paperboy thread an the EMS site has only had around 2 comments & hardly any hits but the Soul Unsigned thread has had around 30 comments & several hundred hits. Again I'll wish Eli all the best with this release but I'm just trying to champion the cause of other Soul artists & I'm sure he'd do the same. Thanks for listening BTW & perhaps you might like to go back & have a listen to track 6 Cool Million - Back For More as it's been probably the biggest sound on the UK Modern Soul scene this year. My final point is that you said the comp didn't sound like Northern Soul but it's not trying to. We'll leave the trying to sound like Northern Soul to the likes of Duffy, Kings Go Forth, Levine new releases & yes the Paperboy.
  24. Sorry but I kinda like my 2010 Soul music to sound like err 2010 Soul music & this certainly don't fit the bill IMO. More like a 'male Duffy wanabee' to me. Not slagging the Paperboy chappie by that statement as it's quite a nice pop record with a catchy fashionable retro beat but new Soul music it ain't im afraid. Will be interesting to see how many folks who are saying they like it now still will in 12 months time. Remember the Duffy, Whinehouse, Stone (actually quite like Joss Stone though) syndrome? Might I suggest if you want some REAL 2010 Soul music you could do worse than check out the Soul Unsigned 2010 compilation album on the link below. It contains a bit of everything from midtempo & uptempo grooves & a couple of rather nice Boogie tracks (1&2). Also a nice retro sounding track if that's your thing (Soopasoul - Do Me Wrong). Worst thing though is the Paperboy will probably make more cash from his pop record than the entire artist list on the 2010 album. Don't begrudge him a penny but would like the folks who make 'real Soul music' to earn a few quid unlike in the past. Sure as fans of Soul music you'd ALL agree with that https://www.soulunsigned.com/records/sudj002.htm
