Brilliant idea.
Have packed in promoting since I moved to the West Mids as far too many at it already but might cancel the sale of all my DJ equipment now you suggested that. Chance to make a few bob without having to worry about how many if any numbers came through the door.
Now how much do I charge the no-hopers oops sorry wannabee DJ's ?
In fairness though it is a good idea for charity events & we did charge dj's a nominal fee to play at the first EMS weekend in Sheffield & all were brilliant (apart from 1 big time Charlie) & raised a fortune.
Same here Barry, the 12" DM Classic Club mix does it for me but like Ian say's if you're playing it in a Northern room (& why not?) probably the 7" version.
Bet you didn't realise it's now nearly 20 years old as was released in 1991
Just a timeless piece of quality Soul music IMO.
How much???
If it's that rare why is it on his greatest hits album as mentioned above by Toad?
Mentioned this on another Jimmy James thread I started a while back & if Hey Girl is worth £225 what's Missing you worth then.
Far better record IMO & a hell of a lot rarer for sure.
Still got a spare so might have to see if JM wants to auction it for me unless I get on offer beforehand Wpaulvandyk
Thanks Tony.
Had guessed that the Hortense version was unreleased so it looks like I'm buying the CD & also searching for the Dorene version too if my wallets up to it.
Suprised I ain't found any info on the Bushman 7" as thought it would be easy.
Any info on the tape I mentioned earlier? Was copied by me for a guy you know in London called Brenton Smith & he's kinda forgotten it.
Was several different versions of My Conversation all mixed together but apart from the Slim Smith version I don't know any of the others. None of them were on the Rupie Edwards 'Let There Be Version' CD compilation.
Heptones & Uniques now sorted so thanks for the help so far chaps.
Also seen a few of the Alton Ellis but no joy whatsoever on the other version by his sister Hortense Ellis. Did it get a vinyl release as can only find it on a CD comp album?
Still searching for the Bushman 7" too & the toughie, Derrick Harriott.
Just to clear things up the refosoul clip I posted up from the Rupie Edwards album in 2007 is below.
Have a listen to it at 1 min 40 secs as the dodgy horn blow from the Uniques version is in there. Intentional?
heptones - give me the right -
Still wanting all the others apart from the Heptones & thanks for looking & the info so far.
Got my info from the 'Let There Be Version' album Tony & thought the Heptones was just another sampled version (so many I can't keep count). Will dig it out & check but seem to remember the sleevenotes were a bit sparce.
Also heard 2 different versions by the Uniques, the version everyone knows & loves & a longer version that seemed cleaned up.
Takes me back to an old tape that a friend recorded off an album for me & it was simply called '1 fingered piano player' & was all different versions of My Conversation. Not the Rupie Edwards 'Version' album though. Any info?
Like you I prefer the Rupie Edwards one over the Coxsone one too. Was done a few years later too (1976 I think).
Thanks for the link & the info Tony. Will give him a try.
Seen the Alton Ellis's on e bay but never seen a Uniques repress on vinyl. Probably looking in the wrong place.
Saw a JA Derrick Harriot blank go through e bay recently but it looked knackered so left it. Suprised there's no repress.
2 different versions of the Heptones. One on Coxsone & the one I want that samples Marvin's Let's Get It On but have found one now (thanks). Think I posted it in the Soul Of Jamaica forum a while back. Samples the Uniques.
Bushman, you'll hate it Pete

For a change a few 7" Reggae wants.
Would prefer original copy's but will settle for legitimate re-issues.
The Uniques - My Conversation.
Bushman - I Know.
Derrick Harriot - The Loser.
Alton Ellis - Can I Change My Mind.
Hortense Ellis (Alton's sister) - Can I Change My Mind.
Heptones - Give Me The Right (let's Get It On Rupie Edwards mix).
As usual please PM with any details & thanks for looking.
Mart...
You won't find the track on Amazon as it's hidden away after Sunshine - Black Science Orchestra as a bonus track (not sure why, possibly a licence dodge or something). Track 14 plays Sunshine then there's a break before it goes into Thank You.
You can hear it in refosoul higher up this thread (post 4 I think).
It's track 15 on here.
Know it only shows 14 tracks but if you let it play through it plays after Sunshine - Black Science Orchestra (also a great record).

You having a laugh?
You been a member long enough to know site rules regarding asking for mp3's let alone asking for things still currently available to buy.
Then just to put icing on the cake you also ask for multiple wants.
Knew you had some sort of involvement Sean but wasn't sure what so kept stum for once.
3 or 4 other mixes? Sharing mate
Sort of on topic, still not found out who the version of I'll Be Around that I sent you is after all these years.
Might give it a spin next week at Stafford but only if you play BW.
Hi Wilma & welcome to the site, hope all the comments below (or is that above?) don't put you off as we're a friendly bunch on here most of the time.
Here's the link for new members that Pete's on about. Just gives folks an idea who they're talking to & also gives you a first step onto the site to make you feel at home.

First post Ken & how many others have made similar mistakes - Just look at some of the rubbish you post in refosoul & call Soul music
Still got your private plate Nige? 0 KEH
Thought the same Dean. Bloody steal at £13. Bet the sellers not best pleased.
Not the only bargain recently either as I won the Crosswind - Get Ready off John's auction last week for quite a bit less than I expected to pay.
Anyone else had any 'big dealer' auction bargains recently?
Just like to congratulate Mr Dewhirst & all the others involved on the album entering the UK compilation charts.
Also to let everyone know that the album is available on amazon for under £7 including free next day delivery.
Well done everybody & bring on volume 2.
