  1. Badly want a copy of Owen Gray - Am Satisfy on the UK Collins Downbeat label. Cash waiting. Please PM with price & I'll get back to you asap. TIA, Mart...
  2. Moved to the correct forum. Must say that John Kane has got the perfect face for radio Good luck with this & hope a fortune gets raised
  3. Invite e'm to film at 'Move On' Matt. Just be sure to let me know when they are coming though so I can stop in & wash what hair I have left
  4. Just been browsing around Mr Manships auctions & saw the copy of Frank Wilson - Do I Love You (can hear you all screaming that's not an auction item but that's not the issue). It says in the text that there is a letter from Tom De Pierro in the hands of a 'renowned dealer' to try to get the original disc returned to him. Know the story of how the disc 'vanished' from his office but this is the first I have heard of said letter. Anyone else know of this? Also says that the supposed only other copy is in 'Sunny Hull'. Thought it went to Australia? The full text is copied below & the link is to Mr Manships current auction where the story is. Frank Wilson Do I Love You (indeed I Do) Let's make no bones about it, after the 1965 Holy Grail Soul 35019 this the very first press UK DEMO complete with the special info PROMO ONLY sleeve, is the next best way of owning it. This unrivaled Northern Soul legend has been issued and re-issued by EMI and RCA 4 times over the years. This example is the 1980 very first press PROMO in pristine condition. With the only known Soul 35019 promo copy in similar condition copy residing in sunny Hull, Humberside since 2009. The other Soul 35019 according to previous owners, allegedly has a warp and a couple of ugly label stains, and the looming possible consequences of the famous Tom De Pierro letter in the possession of a renowned dealer, asking for help to get it returned to him; all cloak and dagger stuff but not encouraging provenance. Absolutely only two authentic originals in existence and one of of those with ??'s on it's condition, makes this 15 year later UK original PROMO complete with the promotional jacket very desirable indeed. PS. The sleeve has been counterfeited many times, be assured this is the authentic "matt" finish flip-back seams original. https://www.raresoulm...tion/this-week/
  5. Glad you like it & was probably being a bit pedantic at the time & should know better as a collector myself. Shall we call the night ATBOFO (across the board, original format only LOL) Might be a can of worms but as a Mod I've got to give you horrible lot some food for thought Too long? It's under 5 mins so that makes it shorter than Gil Scott Heron - The Bottle. Never heard anyone say thats too long.
  6. Agree with most of this but have a listen to the track below. Hope you like it but if you do you WON'T hear it at one of the ATB nights you yearn for as it's not on vinyl so you have already ailienated some Modern Soul fans with your format policy. Ingridients........
  7. Suggest some then :)
  8. Good to see Keni back in the studio & I do hope folks go out & buy it as the 'b' side is pretty good as well. Also hope that you all listen to the entire podcast as Roger has played some really nice current release music on there as usual. Love the 'Park Place' track
  9. One of the best posts on Soul Source for a long time (& I'm not just saying that because you are a fellow Mod Chalky). Totally agree 100% with you that ATB should mean exactly that. Soulful dance music regardless of when it was made be it 60's Northern, crossover, uptempo 70's & 80's right through to Soulful House & the latest current releases in equal measures. Can only think of one place at the moment that gets anywhere near to doing all of this under 1 roof & that's the Red Bar in Wakefield when the Wakefield City Soul Club run their nights & their Summer dayers. Good to see you mention the 80's as people were far more tolerant to hearing a different sound then. Remember Richard Searling at Clifton Hall giving Never Too Much - Luther it's first ever UK spin? In the very same spot he played things like Gene Toones, Combinations, Vicky Baines etc & the same people danced to them all. Now can you imagine that happening these days? Think a lot of people need to think for a while & ask themselves this question. Are you a pigeonholed fan of (insert word of your choice here, ie, Northern, Modern etc) or are you a fan of Soul music regardless of genre?
  10. Something like this? https://www.sheffieldfunkcollective.co.uk/
  11. In answer to you both just hit play https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czmZr4jwIAc
  12. Thats fantastic news Andy. Spent many a happy hour in your old shop & also picked up a few bargains along the way. Not in Sheffield very much now since I moved to the Midlands but will be sure to call in the next time I'm up North. Also on a wider scale it's great news to see a shop opening selling good old fashioned vinyl. Good luck with it fella & be sure to say hi to Pauline for me. Mart...
  13. Rare Soul????? Never have been into music for it's rarity & think it's incredibly sad that folks only like a record for it's rarity. Yes a lot of the things I like are rare but also a hell of a lot more are quite common. Also the tracks I had carved were Funky House remixes
  14. Thanks John.
  15. Can ask that members stop all the second guessing that seems to be going on. Sure both of the organisers that are members on here have got enough on their plates at the moment & will be on here to let you all know whats happening as soon as they can.
  16. Suits me Dave but most (non Modern) venues don't have such modern fangled things like CD players & even if they did most of the punters would be demanding I was tarred & feathered for even going within 800 yards of a Soul night with a little silver disc
  17. See if I can answer 2 posts at once here. Have used vinyl carvers a couple of times & been well impressed with the results but went for the larger option & had things carved onto 12" as they were longer tracks. Perhaps if a few more venues had CD players I could play them on the original format. Will you 7" only boys ever learn . They were also unreleased remixes made by friends so copyright ain't an option either. Have also had a studio acetate carved as it's getting cue burn on the intro every time I play it so am prolonging the life of the original copy.
  18. Not really a 'news' item as exactly the same post as the one in the nighter forum so closing. Guidelines for the 'announcements' forum can be found on the link below so can I ask that all members stick to them please.
  19. Have attended a few of the free Horse & Groom sunday chill out events in Doncaster & found them hugely enjoyable. Ran by people who care about the music rather than profit. Don't think it'll be long before promoters start cashing in on the success of these free events though. Will just spoil it for everyone if that happens, ie, bigger events, established 'name' DJ's, bigger venues etc. Ho hum.....
  20. A rather elusive want of mine that keeps getting described as Funk by some. To me it's pure genius & I don't give a flying f**k as to what pigeonhole folks want to put it into as long as I get a copy. Best played very very loud. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmv8BRBjHts
  21. What about Jazz Funk??? Just a thought
  22. Ah good. Perhaps you might take your caps lock off now & make your posts far easier on the eye for everyone else
  23. Just trying to picture the scenario getting reversed & Northern getting spun at a Funk night - '& next up is Paul Anka - When We Get There. Ger on't good foot folks.'
  24. Can't say a few Funk records getting played being a problem for the Northern scene. End of the day all the Northern scene has done over the years is to steal music from other genres anyway. In fact the only music that don't get played on the Northern scene is taylor made Northern (OK I know a few have scraped through but that just backs up my point). Nail, head, hit. If it's Soulful just play, listen, dance, enjoy. Off now to listen to a bit of Soulful House & then maybe a bit of Soulful Reggae.
