  1. Now you mention it I can remember Windmill records but thought it was Kenny's shop (I am a bit younger than you Sean LOL). Had some nice UK Motown & Stateside demo's out of there myself & also a handful of Andre Brassier (spelling?) demo's of the Kid for 10p each. Happy days indeed
  2. Reminds me of the time that a certain site member who shall remain nameless (clue, he is a fellow Blades fan & bears a slight resemblance to Captain Mainwaring). He once came up to me & asked me to play something he didn't know
  3. Spooky that Barry cos I was at the EITB in 1976 (about June I think). £17 a week wages & like you say straight to Revoloution records via Kenny's records on the Wicker. Had some nice stuff out of there, Motown demo's & such like for pennies.
  4. Bringing back a few memories here. Harringtons was owned by a guy called Brian I think & the last time I was in the Castle market it was still there & so was he but with a lot less hair now. Tramps that was mentioned above was on King Street (behind what was C&A). Remember Vallances on Chapel Walk but there was another record shop on there that was part of a musical instrument shop. Think it was called Cann's & seem to remember having some covers with Cann the music man on them. Also remember a shop near the Castle Market called Pooles as my Dad got me my first Ben Sherman from there. Anyone remember Revoloution Records on the market balconies?
  5. Most of the above are pretty bad apart from Lou Pride & the Magnetics IMO. Tune that really gets my back up is the awful Love Don't Go Through No Changes In Me - Sister Sledge. Now't wrong with Sister Sledge as quite like them but just hate that bloody record. Strange thing is though whenever I hear it I find myself falling into it & singing away so if anyone ever see's me doing this again just give me a big slap cos I deserve it.

  7. When you get it Brett let me know how you get on with it as we both have the same UDG 12" trolley. Looks good to me if it fits over the handle. PS, bet if Wigley see's this he'll have a pop at me to get the rasta coloured one
  8. Your'e lucky Dave. My Tesco just belts out wishy washy 70's Crossover old undancable shite
  9. Can you not remember White Horses getting hammered by Rich & Russ at the Casino Dave? Also seem to remember Keb & Guy covering up Rupert The Bear, Stafford possibly? Worth checking out some of the comments too as seems the name mix up has happened both ways
  10. Quite like that Gifted Four Brett.
  11. Very good point. Seems all these years of 'Keeping The Faith' has eventually come round to biting the scene on it's own arse.
  12. I did say as far as I know it's legal. Perhaps you could pm the member. Past caring myself & bored of trying to knock nails into sawdust so going for a cuppa (real Yorkshire tea & none of that Aldi rubbish ).
  13. Play it on one of those new fangled cd players. Might also have a cd player in the new car he just bought with the £3000 he saved
  14. You own whatever format you choose Pete & I'll try my best to own stuff legally, don't think either of us are going to lose much sleep. Don't really see the relevance of the connection to the tragic events in Norway though. Also if you think the topic is so trivial why keep posting on it?
  15. Here you go. As far as I know these are legal, bonus of all the other tracks too. https://www.northernsouldirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=3184 PS, prefer When I'm With My Baby on t'other side
  16. Next best thing. Assume you mean a bootleg is the next best thing. Surely it's better to own a legitimate re-issue or even a copy on a legal cd or a legal download than an illegal counterfeit.
  17. Point is though the artists did see a percentage when the legitimate product was first released. Also some of the bootleggers (without mentioning names) have also ran legal re-issue labels. Now if a record is legally re-issued some of the profit could be sent to the artist if done properly. Sadly though a lot of these re-issuers (not all though) just send the minimum they need to to someone like ascap or something similar. As for the second hand argument, when you bought your second hand car did you write out a cheque to the manufacturer? Thought not...
  18. Because they like to cheat not only themselves but also the artists, producers etc. Also because they like to line the pockets of the criminals who make the counterfeit records.
  19. Colin 'Diamond' Curtis played it at the Mecca around the same time as Brent Smith & myself were playing it at Crookesmoor club in Sheffield. Fantastic record.
  20. Nail, head, hit Nev Would slightly move the goalposts in my case though as I also collect some stuff of a more Modern variety so I buy original format only & yes that does include downloads too. Least I know when I buy a record, cd or even an mp3 a slice of the money goes where it belongs, to the artist.
  21. I'll back you up too Pete Yes but is there not a line where Soul & Reggae meet? LOL. I played My Conversation at the end of one of our Modernism nights to send people home & they all bloody came back & started dancing so it kinda stuck after that. Good post Gareth. Think Rocksteady as a genre comes as close to Soul & Reggae meeting as I mentioned above. Big difference between the odd Rocksteady track like you mentioned above & something like Double Barrell being played to a floor full of folks in silly clothes (joke of course).
  22. A few more off the top of my head that I have heard played & have played out myself. Maybe The Next Time - Pat Rhoden I Am Satisfied - Owen Grey I'm In Love With You - Lloyd Williams How Long Will It Take - Pat Kelley I've Got Your Number - Dermott Lynch Baby I Need Your Loving - Delroy Wilson
  23. Good call r/e Derrick Harriott Tony. Must admit to playing that at a Modern event & it went down very well too. Also did a Soul of Jamaica spot in the small room at the last Morecambe weekender & loved every minute of it.
