  1. Agree with what you are saying & know where you are coming from Chalky but if you truly want to embrace all era's & genre's of the Soul scene I think the rare tag needs dropping.
  2. Quite like this & the clip does not do it any justice.
  3. Simple answer. NO. https://www.amazon.co.uk/How-Do-You-Mayer-Hawthorne/dp/B005HWUBZ0
  4. So Pete favoured the left & Matt the right. Just the same with your politics then
  5. Link to the soundfile here Simon. Good luck with the website too fella but under no circumstances send me the link as I'm skint already
  6. Yes there is only one United & that's the first & original United & that's the Blades from Sheffield. As for the username game, I'm not saying
  7. Think I only paid about £10 for mine but that was a while ago. Have seen e'm for that for sale quite often though & tbh if anyone paid much more for it they would be crazy but guess it's the usual demand frenzy if it is any higher. Ho hum....
  8. About £20 to £25
  9. Totally agree with Sutty & Pete on this especially r/e Bitty McLean & his version of Walk Away From Love. As for the reason it's getting Northern spins, simple really. It's fairly rare especially on 7" vinyl & Northern record dealer & DJ Sean Chapman has got a few copy's Gimme Dave & Ansil Collins any day of the week & surprised no one has mentioned the newly released Trojan versions of the original that have just been unearthed.
  10. Got to say that the Jean Carn re-edit is right at the top of the tree & features heavily on my current playlist (when people are daft enough to book me LOL) & must thank Ian for letting me have a copy a while back. Now I owe you one Ian so the unreleased extended re-edit of Gloria Scott - A Case Of Too Much Lovemaking is on it's way to you. Anyone else want's to hear it, well you'll just have to come & have a listen to me giving it a spin somewhere. As for recommendations I'd suggest the Dimitri from Paris compilation album - Get Down With The Philly Sound double album & of course the recent Tom Moulton albums that Ian released for a starting point. Both as cheap as chips at amazon.
  11. Really don't get this at all. Why on earth do people carve album tracks to 7" vinyl when it is easier & also a dam site cheaper to play it off a burnt cd or just play it off the album. It's a radio station & they will surely have good enough sound equipment to enhance it. Better still play the mp3 off a storage device. Chances are you could legally download the track & the sound quality would be better still. End of the day let's remember it's 2011, not 1965.... My opinion for what it's worth on the first post & this is from a more 'Modern' perspective is legitimate format only & by that I mean where if a track is re-issued a percentage of the money goes to the original artist.
  12. So true that Joan. Consider myself a 'jack of all trades' on the Soul scene as I like a bit of everything & try my best not to pigeonhole myself but have always considered the term 'upfront' to refer to current new release dance music. Well that's what we used to call it around 2000ish when Terry Gee ran the Modern Room at the Bretby all nighters & the playlists at the time were probably 90% Soulful House. Now at the time that was very upfront when you consider what was being played next door in the Northern room.
  13. Good on you. I'd love to see that
  14. Nail, head, hit.
  15. Just seen one on Lee Jeffries site for £50 or can let you have my album copy for a tenner plus postage as have now got a 7" copy myself. Will try to find the link for you Neal.
  16. Told you to change that bloody username didn't I Welcome to the Mod team Rod
  17. Brilliant Mike. Got a lot of time for Mayer Hawthorne & that's the first time I've seen this video
  18. Just thought I'd pop this up on here as it's due for an early October release on good old 7" vinyl. Sounds good to my ears & also good to see Westcoast Soulstars sticking to the 7" vinyl format following on from the success of last years release.
  19. Yes Simon. The copy that was Poke's had the instrumental on the b side but mine has the vocal on both sides.HDH (Holland Dozier Holland?) acetates. He used to play it around 1980ish (both sides). Were also some emidiscs flying around but the sound quality was terrible.
  20. The Richie Parker version is actually Aaron Neville (well that's what it say's on my copy). Got in touch with a friend of Aaron several years ago & he played him the mp3 I sent him & he said he vaguely remembered recording it.
  21. Very good point Steve but think it's a bit back to front. Maybe better if the Northern classic punters cut their ties with the rest of the Soul scene & leave us be. After all their scene is more based around a dancable beat & includes quite a lot of pop songs that 'sound like Soul'. None of that on the rare & underplayed, modern, r&b scenes etc.
  22. Great 100th post Steve & enjoy the journey
  23. All about condition. Buy a minter & play it a few times & get yourself a good old cueburned copy that's worth peanuts. Best way by far to own it is the Coldcut - Harmless 12" press if you're lucky enough to find one. No cueburn problems & also louder & clearer than the Jap album cut & they're legit too.
  24. Was just after me Barry. I was there in May to July. Did you wear silver dockers?
