  1. But are they 100% legitimate. Construction getting released under it's cover up title springs to mind. Sure if that was legal it would be released with the real band name & not a totally different one. Makes me wonder if any of the members of The Construction even knew about it's release or the Del Capri's for that matter.
  2. There's a guy in France who actually owns both a 12" issue & a 12" white label demo too. Makes me wonder if the 7" ever got a demo release. Never seen or heard of one. Only other 12" demo I have heard of is so badly warped it is unplayable. Think there is a Paul Philips connection to that too. A Fun City 12" is my holy grail record but until then I'll make do with my 7" copy & also the full extended version that I got off a 'friend of a friend' that's actually longer than the 12" cut
  3. Might seem a bit biased here as I'm one of the event Moderators & also a close friend of the thread starter but why oh why do people constantly moan about too many events. Would rather look on the positive side & say there are the right amount of events but not enough people attending them. Also another reason there are so many events on is the sheer diversity of nights on offer now as peoples tastes have gone off in several different directions. 30 or so years ago we all used to travel all over the place together & cram into massive halls & listen to the same music as we all had roughly the same tastes. Not any more. Simple soloution is to get off your arses & go out & support the events that are on & that suit your tastes as you'll all miss them when they are gone.
  4. Best by far are Japanese Reggae dealers, Dub Vendor. Use their own custom made boxes that are about 2" thick & packed with cladding and still tape up the records with cardboard stiffeners. Strangest I ever had was a cheap record I won from the states & it was just stuck between 2 other records. One of the records used as a packer was Etta James - Seven Day Fool. Mint, unplayed & never even took out of the sleeve. Result.
  5. Totally agree Chalky but is the book about the last 40 years or an update of the last book? Point I was trying to make is that if they are constantly played for a while at certain 'big' venues under the Northern banner & filling floors then they are Northern Soul regardless of what we think of them. As for the piss poor Bob Sinclair tripe the Northern rooms can bloody have it if it stops it getting played in Modern rooms
  6. One step at a time Tony
  7. Keep seeing things like Timebox, Stoned Love & Bob Sinclair mentioned on here & people saying they are not Northern. Now I'll agree that Timebox is a Mod classic, that Stoned Love is classic Motown & that Bob Sinclair is Soulful Danceable House (at it's worst & that's not a dig at Soulful House cos I love the genre). Simple fact of the matter though is that if they are constantly played on the Northern scene they are Northern Soul. End of the day everything on the Northern Soul scene has been cherry picked from other musical genre's so get over it. Now onto the book. Will I buy it to go alongside the first one? If it is a true reflection of what is happening out there then probably yes. If it's nothing more than a promotional tool to plug Goldsoul & Goldsoul events then probably no. Awaiting revue's with interest.
  8. A Northern Soul Wigan Casino monster (best Disco in the world wasn't it?). Guess now it would be called Funky Modern Disco shite. Funny how times change innit.
  9. Now this is Disco (I think!).
  10. Mystic Merlin time.
  11. Disco or Jazz Funk? Quality either way.
  12. Is this too slow? Great thread but why not in AATS?
  13. Here you go Pete. Soundclip was posted on soundcloud by Sutty & must thank him for it & hope he don't mind me posting it on here. https://soundcloud.com/soulcitizen/owen-gray-am-satisy
  14. Err didn't expect to see this thread reactivated but now it has I still want a copy of Am Satisfy by Owen Gray on UK Collins Downbeat. Don't want a copy of I Am Satisfied on Escort as managed to get one before the price went up (very rare for me!). Good luck with the sale Pete & as Sutty said above you should get £200 to £250 for it easily.
  15. Ain't the Pinches twins been hanging around Swinton station recently? Carpet place across the dual carriageway was still there last time I looked. Perhaps the dancer should have tried using a 100 euro note instead
  16. Blue Minx (aka Travellers), Canklow, Clifton Hall etc all car parks now Rob. Masboro school of dancing still standing though
  17. Have also noticed quite a few issue's cropping up recently & there is at least one well known record dealer out there who has several issue copy's that keep trickling out occasionally so don't go bidding too high for them.
  18. Went past the Travellers a couple of weeks ago. Now sadly flattened & used as a car park.
  19. Simple solution Nev. Buy the set then sell all the singles separately on e bay for a handsome profit & keep the empty box to fill up with 'proper' records
  20. Thanks Steve. We certainly do have a deal my friend.
  21. Anybody got a 7" copy of Gil Scott Heron & Brian Jackson - Willing on Arista. Issue or Demo will be fine. Just a bit fed up of playing it from the album. PM me & I'll get back to you asap. TIA, Mart...
  22. One of the following three wanted for a Christmas present. Jerry Washington - Don't Waste My Time - Glades. Jewel - Paradise - Jewel Productions. Jan Jones - Independent Woman - Day-Wood. Would prefer the Jerry Washington mostly but any will do. PM me & I'll get back to you asap. TIA, Mart...
  23. Fantastic version. Want a UK copy myself to replace my JA copy if you get offered 2 but be careful as some were printed wrongly & play something entirely different. Can't remember what but sure someone will enlighten you.
  24. Hardcore Prawn? Were they still frozen Barry Part one might be a bit more interesting for some of you (still acts like a cock though!).
  25. God what an annoying cock but got to say it was interesting to see Jr Walker & Little Richard mixed together & sampled at the end. Entertaining 15 minutes & thanks for sharing.
