  1. Summed up perfectly here
  2. Original people Dave. Due to demand so no qualms really as more cash for the artist.
  3. Came home from an all nighter in about 1978 and had purchased a copy of Mel Torme & stuck it on the old record player to play & my dear old Dad (RIP) said 'I've Got That'. Only 18 years old & I was turning into my Dad already. Last time I heard Mel Torme played out was at a full on Modern night at Soul Purpose in Hinckley by Dr Bob Jones. Funny old scene innit.
  4. As Steve say's above, a very tough record to get & very expensive too. Easier to get on a Brite-Lite 12" but nowhere near as good. Also heard Soul Sam say it's his all time favourite record but also heard him say that about Tolbert, Jan Jones, Sag War Fare, Urban Blues Project, Margaret Little etc
  5. Too right Tim. Last thing we want is every Tom, Dick & Harry from all over the world buying price guides & bumping up the price of everything like has happened with the Soul scene since these abominations have appeared.
  6. Simon & Garfunkel were originally in a group called Tom & Jerry so might explain that.
  7. He might wait until tomorrow to vote though
  8. Very good point Dave r/e drawing the line but just where do you draw it? My old rule of thumb guide used to be up to 20 years ago, Modern & older than that Oldie (hate ie ending words) but as time's gone on a lot of stuff has crossed that line & I don't want that. Strange world of Modern Soul
  9. No need to be sorry for giving your opinion. Am actually quite pleased that you listened to it to be honest. Actually own & love both versions & was posting it as an alternative for Matt & have done similar in the past with other Sunburst Band/Joey Negro songs. Guess the 90's retro sound you mention is down to the Frankie Knuckles imput on it & also Joey Negro's love of the 80's & 90's Disco sound.
  10. Strange thing is though Peter I haven't bought a cd for quite a while now for myself. Got a couple of comps for the Wife & they tend to get played in the car more than anything. Got fed up of buying CD's for one or two tracks when they can be downloaded legally for a fraction of the price. Know several other people on the Modern scene who feel the same too.
  11. This would fit better IMO as sort of samples Silvetti & fit's into the Soulful House genre. Quite rare & expensive though on 12" vinyl.
  12. Today I have actually legally downloaded a track from traxsource, paid for a 70's Soul 7" record won on e bay & in the last hour bought a 12" 2013 vinyl release & that was the last so 21st century vinyl get's the vote but only just.
  13. Here's a better mix of The Sunburst Band for you Matt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2l56LBA777M Also here's quite simply the best record ever made. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGc4asrJnB4 Both uptempo Soulful dance records of the highest degree & both top quality records with 34 years between them but you could also tag them both as Modern Soul.
  14. Nice easy one for a change. Jesse Green - Nice & Slow 12" Need this for the Mrs but want the 12" mix either on Scepter or Red Bus records. Not sure if the Excalibur 12" has the 5-45 min version so not bothered about that. Have seen the copy on e bay & also the discogs copy but the postage from across the Atlantic will end up costing me more than the record is worth so I'm sure someone here in the UK must have a copy they can part with. Thanks in advance, Mart...
  15. Well let me help you make your's a bit tidier & my extension a bit messier then. You know it makes sense
  16. Can you ever have enough records cluttering up the house? Why we're all here innit
  17. Well I'm not leaving mine again Rich £1 well spent me thinks. Now how about selling me that other thing you have that you know I will love & cherish please
  18. Bloody hell Tim, I was comfy but had to check. Correct as it was Disco Spectrum vol 1 compiled by Joey Negro. The Goldmine thing was Modern Millionaires. The 12" that Iv'e got also has a remix on the other side done by DJ Harvey & there's also a Restless Soul/Phil Asher mix on it too. It was due for release on 19/1/1998 according to the press release & the white label has BBE 12005 written on it. Now can I go back to my comfy armchair & my Sunday afternoon slumber
  19. Correct Tim. Was it one of Keb's comps? Possibly a Deep Funk one but would involve me leaving a comfy armchair. Also on one of those Modern Millionaire things.
  20. Was also due for a UK release on the BBE label but only got to the test press stage (I think). Managed to aquire one of the 12" test presses along with the press release showing a Jan 1998 release. Longer version too & no bad thing either as the 7" Ramco copy is way too short IMO. Seen several 7" copy's but never seen another of the 12" test presses but have been told of others so guessing it's also quite rare like the 7" press. As far as I know Mainor Ramsay actually had a hand in the Lotusland release.
  21. End of the day the Northern scene just cherry picks it's music from other music genre's. The majority of it is dance-able 60's Soul but occasionally other stuff slips through the net if it sounds right for the dancefloor be it Pop, Rock, Country, Jazz etc. Apart from a very few exceptions it's the only music scene that does this & also the only music scene that you cannot actually make music for (again with a very few exceptions). Bit like Pikey's really as we just take what we want regardless
  22. How about the Cate Bros - Where Can We Go. Was even covered up as the Anderson Bros as mentioned in the original post. Was once told that they were (hate this term) Blue Eyed Soul boys but the title of their biggest selling album kinda gave it away - Crazy Cajun.
  23. Agreed 100% but if people are daft enough to pay it, you know the rest. Anyway have you ever seen an Aussie copy that I mentioned?
  24. Agreed Pete but have seen it in boxes at Soul nights for anything up to £50 on UK Gas. Got a rather strange Australian copy (with added strings & things) on W&G records & rather nice it looks too.
  25. Play this out occasionally. Far better version of our Kenny IMO. Also drop the needle on this. Again far better than the original by the Temptations again IMO.
