  1. Quite funny really. 10 years ago folks were moaning about the scene dying & being on it's arse. 5 years ago they were moaning about there being too many venue's & now they're moaning about new people actually attending these new venue's. Wonder what folks will be moaning about in 5 years time
  2. Another 12" essential. Why on earth would you want the 7" when you would miss out on the extended sax break. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFvcXjpVvWQ
  3. Another scarce 12" only release from the record room. Might also go down well on the Disco thread too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TENTgSbRJDE
  4. A few Budwiesers from the record room. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AV8RFy5OUwU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLL7VvAICIU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dyww4PlEqJQ
  5. Impossible to answer but here's a few for various reasons. First one simply because I bought it today & also because it's beautiful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0QYXUkdZqA Next one because it's a far superior version to the 7" cut. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8l-zVS-IuU4 Next two because they are the full versions as there are sections & verses missing from the 7" cut's & also the sound quality is far better than the 7" cut's. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD5idGxxdxo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrVmQWMKS_E Last one simply because I love it & have done since 1976. One of the very first 12" releases & quite a bugger to get on a 12" on Scepter records. Know the 7" was a big chart hit but listen to the 12" to hear it in all it's glory. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NO_gvUSopk
  6. Great reading through this old thread. Does make me wonder what we could add to it now though. Sag Warfare for starters. Any more?
  7. If anyone ever ask's me what kind of music I am into I tell them Soulful Dance music from the early 60's through to present day. Makes life easier but people still stereotype me as a Northern fan as it's all they understand.
  8. Steady on Pete......
  9. A bit like Condition Red then Pete One of those never ending arguments but if it's played on't Northern Soul scene then it's Northern Soul.
  10. R Kelly, so called new R&B or is it a Northern Soul anthem just waiting to be discovered https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wCsvbySEtM
  11. So R&B is Northern Soul but it's not R&B. Got it
  12. Had several albums with stamped covers. A lot of them were just issue's inside the cover & were normally stamped in gold ink.
  13. Kinda nail's it for me. Always the same when an underground scene get's mainstream exposure.
  14. As a Moderator I have resisted posting on this thread but boy oh boy I would pay good money to see that lot in a room together. Would also suggest throwing a few more people off the scene in there too like Butch, Pat (the boxer) Brady, Rob Thomas's brother Kev, Rob Wicks & what the hell, Russ Winstanley. Now that would be a hell of a documentary but it might not contain much 'Culture'
  15. The Richie Parker cut is actually Aaron Neville & IMO the best version but might be a little bit biased as it sits in my collection. Ain't we discussed this before Chalky?
  16. The problem is not too many events. The real problem is that there are not enough punters to go round & also the dilution & fragmentation of the scene by the powers that be who continue to milk every last penny out of our scene while they still can.
  17. Why oh why am I dreading going to work next Thursday morning
  18. Exactly Mark. Some people are fans of Soul music regardless & some limit themselves & miss out.
  19. Actually used to handwrite my 'Out & About In Yorkshire' column & post them to Mike Ritson so that makes 2 of us. Also used to occasionally put tracks onto CD for Sam & he managed to play them OK
  20. Best track from the CD is track 1, Love Is. Been criminally overlooked in the Share My Love & Lazy Sunday stampede. Now where the hell are the vinyl only fans going to get a three sided carver from
  21. Closest of all the posts to my answers Martin. Obviously a man of impeccable taste. Agree totally with TP, AN & obviously BS & would only replace Freddie Gorman with Al Greene closely followed by Jackie Wilson, David Ruffin & the surprise - Tolbert. Just listen to I Got It & you'll hear what I mean.
  22. My point is if you discriminate against people from off our so called scene don't moan if you get discriminated against when you go on their patch. Also more & more events are taking place in pubs that are open to all. Classic example of this is the excellent Horse & Groom events on Sunday afternoons in Doncaster. Recently DJ'ed at a local event where a bit of everything was played, Northern, House, Ska, Rocksteady & Mod type stuff & the pub was full of a mixed crowd of Soul fans, Mods & locals both young & old & everybody just got on with it & had a good time. Of course some of the younger kids were dancing with drinks in their hands but what the hell as they were enjoying themselves. God only knows how we are going to attract new blood onto the scene if we treat them like kids & expect them to obey our set in stone rules regarding 'Soul scene etiquette'. Opposite used to happen to us back in the day in the Charters Arms near Rotherham's Clifton Hall. The landlord used to love us coming in as it gave the locals someone different to fight with
  23. So you arrange to meet your mates in the pub on your way to the local flea-pit Soul night & the landlord turns around & say's sorry but I don't want no Billy whizz taking talc throwing Soulies in my pub. Guessing you wouldn't be too happy would you but most of you have decided you don't want his so called 'pisshead' customers in your Soul night so you can't blame him really...
  24. Would I be right in thinking the 7"cut is shorter than the album cut?
  25. Not similar but a cover version by REM. Don't let that put you off though as it's quite good & also quite scarce as it was only released on a giveaway flexi-disc with a magazine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3HhJ-2JnQE
