  1. Just been on the phone with Adrian who used to co-run Strads & he can remember having a few of these Pointer Sisters & at least one copy of the Professionals plus various other things on different coloured wax Pete. He can even remember selling me my copy & vaguely remembers selling my mate the Professionals. My copy of the Pointer Sisters on yellow wax was a lot brighter than the copy in the scan. He also told me that the coloured vinyl things came from either Nottingham (possibly Record Haven?) if it was the late 70's or possibly even John Manship himself if it was the early 80's. Most likely Nottingham but JM visited their shop in Rotherham on some of his record selling jaunts & they (Strads) regularly bought off him. The yellow PS is mentioned on the 2 threads on the links below.
  2. Yes, mine Simon. Many years ago, late 70's or even possibly very early 80's I think I was at Sheffield's Kay Gee Bee all nighter. When I used to go to the Kay Gee Bee I always used to sit with Adrian Gyte who jointly ran the Strads record bar with Steve Croft. One night he was there with a box with some rather odd things in it. Several of these were on coloured vinyl & looked quite strange to say the least. A Pointer Sisters - Send Him Back on yellow vinyl, A Dutch Robinson - Can't get along Without You on gold vinyl (& also black vinyl), possibly a James Lewis - Manifesto on coloured vinyl & a Professionals on gold vinyl. This is fact as I bought the Pointer Sisters & a black vinyl Dutch Robinson & an old friend of mine from Sheffield bought the Professionals. The Pointer Sisters has long gone but there is a thread on here that mentions it & here's a pic of somebody else's copy. Now has my mate still got the Professionals? Sadly not as he gave it to his brother who gave it to an old girlfriend. Have also been told about someone with a similar box of coloured label things at Wigan Casino one night but wasn't there so can't confirm this. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting it was a bootleg but I'm not saying it wasn't either.
  3. Awake 502 W/D.
  4. Fair enough Phil. Not so sure all of the people who end up missing a set will see it that way though
  5. If they are dealers they could have got them directly from Universal in the first place & sold them legitimately. Also I'm a Moderator on here & would just like to see every member get a fair chance of getting a set at the right price.
  6. Why on earth would anyone want to order more than 1 set? Just greedy & depriving someone else of a set IMO.
  7. Not got Boba to glue the Don Gardner back together has he?
  8. Suppose some of you will want something to carry these records about in. Got one of these earlier this year & they are top quality. https://www.juno.co.uk/products/magma-7-single-bag-150-ii-black/341640-01/
  9. Fully agree with Neil & Steve. Took me what seemed like forever to get a copy. Are they the same group that did Just You And Me on RCA? (another great record).
  10. Could play this over & over if he wanted home grown stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTgpeij3dU0
  11. One of the TBA date's might be Leicester John. Not confirmed yet but it's possibly De Montfort Hall. Showing as blank dates on their site so err, watch this space as they say....
  12. Know David Gest is not the most popular person in the world but you gotta give him credit for getting Little Anthony on these shores for the first time. Link shows where. https://www.davidgestonline.com/david-gests-legends-of-soul-live-concert/
  13. Archie didn't come over for that event & a few others as he had not paid his child maintenance but that has now been paid for him by David Gest & he is touring all over Europe again as Ian has pointed out. He will also be featuring at the Baltic Soul weekender in Germany later in the year. Talking about David Gest paying bills for folks so they can come to the UK watch this space.....
  14. Just found it. Album is called Keep On Believing & was released in 2005 on Severn records. Also another rather nice track on it called Love Will Make It Alright. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rwk4azXG5Jo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZRWUMAoX8Q
  15. Also another version by Lou Pride that he did on an album around 2005ish. Sorry I can't be more specific but I can't find it at the moment. Will have another search.
  16. Thing I really don't like is the fact that it is listed as a demo. Err sorry but it is not a demo as demo's of new release records are given away to places like radio stations etc to promote the upcoming release. These are just sold at an extortionate price to line someone's pocket. Not only this seller doing it either & been going on for years. Just wrong IMO.
  17. Check out the Christmas is coming thread in this forum.
  18. Rare 2nd issue
  19. Thought I knew my stuff when it came to the Budweiser 12" rarities as have had or got all the rarer things like Sir - Prize, Crosswind, Hotliners etc but then this showed up on e bay. Never seen or heard of it before & got absolutely no info on it whatsoever apart from what is on the e bay listing below. Anyone shed a bit of light on this for me & anyone else interested. Oh yes, check out the import charges alongside the finishing price https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-Budweiser-Showdown-Starstream-Modern-Soul-Boogie-Foxy-Fatts-MAC-Band-/131033015306?ViewItem=&ssPageName=ADME%3AB%3AWNA%3AGB%3A3160&item=131033015306&nma=true&si=EpaAeyl9hPUg%252B%252FIjQa8P8G4gttM%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
  20. Think the fact that Eddie Parker - I'm Gone is no 485 speaks volumes about this book (IMO).
  21. Have a look here Lynn. https://www.popsike.com/php/quicksearch.php?searchtext=The+Matadors++Say+yes+baby&x=12&y=8
  22. Not really sure why this has been edited down to 7" format. Mentions a glitch on the 12" original but that's just nonsense. Would also question if they were legal as they certainly don't look it & don't even give the artist's full name of Ronnie 'Loveman' Stokes or even any writer or producer credits.
  23. Think some of you might be waking up to one of these Philly vinyl box sets from Santa on December 25th. Very good price from amazon too. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Philly-Re-Grooved-Moulton-Remixes-VINYL/dp/B00F6A8ZFQ
  24. OK I know it's still October but I'm sure there will be plenty of partners & loved one's out there already racking their brains trying to find you something for Christmas that is somehow Soul related so I thought I'd start a thread to guide them in the right direction. Sure that a few things on here will be a bit more welcome than the usual socks & slippers. First thing that caught my eye was the Richard Searling compiled Motown 7" boxset that can be viewed on the link below. Some very nice tracks in it on 7" vinyl for the first time like the Spinners - What More Could A Boy Ask For. https://store.universal-music.co.uk/restofworld/soul+r+b/various-artists-the-motown-7s-box/invt/0600753454251 Now feel free to post some sensible suggestions & get yourself something you really want from Santa for a change.
  25. Not so much of a problem for your average Northern room where 99% of things played are 7" singles that last for about 2-30 to 3 minutes. Now go into a Modern room where 7" singles, 12" singles & album tracks are played alongside CD's. Not only that but most are played by DJ's who are tone deaf & have no idea what they are doing & think the only way to make things sound better is to whack everything that moves on the mixer to the max.
