  1. It should be no more than a fiver. Utter shite.
  2. The thing is that for most reputable dealers you can pay by credit card. That incurs a cost for the seller, but I never hear of a seller asking to add 3-4% if paying by Visa etc. Paypal has, it seems, become the de facto method of payment for soul vinyl. And, like most things to do with soul vinyl, common sense and normal real world business practice goes out of the window.. I have no problem doing F & F for someone I know (like Pete S), but it is madness to send someone you hardly know hundreds of pounds with no protection. However that said, I have done it a fair few times myself. But common sense goes out the window where soul vinyl is concerned
  3. Or why don't sellers just take the Paypal charges on the chin, or account for them in the sale price?
  4. The whole Friends & Family payment for records should stop IMO. If the buyer wants payment by Paypal they should stand the charges. If this ever gets out into the red tops, it will be a bigger scandal than the MP's expenses or cash for questions
  5. Same old, same old. Why in 2015 is there a market for bootleg vinyl? Back in the 70's vinyl was the most common format for listening to music, every home had at least one record player. So it kind of made sense for bootleggers to press up records. Today though it's completely different. If you don't have, can't locate, can't afford or want the original record there are so many ways to listen to the music, most of which don't cost a penny. If you want to play a tune at home that you don't own an original vinyl copy of then you can buy a legit CD, you can download either legitimately or illegally. But you don't need a bootleg record. If you're DJing, then it's simple if you don't own it on a real record then you can't play it. You may feel it's unfair, you may feel like throwing your toys out of the pram. But tough you still can't play it. Unless of course, in a fit of pique at the injustice of it all, you and your div mates set up your own do and play bootlegs to each other. And it seems that this is what has unfortunately happened all over the country. Stop all the bootleggers. Make it a thing of shame to be seen playing bootlegs. It already should be.
  6. Must be VG+ or better. PM's please with your required price and record condition. thanks Phil
  7. It all totally dismays me. Just what really is the point any more? I've been to loads of do's in recent times where the local "top DJ's" are on with their prized collection of carvers, boots and reissues with stuck on labels. They get praised and lauded by the crowd. You hear comments like "I never knew he had this one" from the crowd, to (one I heard recently at a night I had the misfortune to attend) hearing the DJ state "here's the ever popular Chicago mega-rarity" while he stuck on a boot of The Salvadors. I really fecking despair.
  8. He's still on the net
  9. And D&J in carnegie
  10. Marvin & Tammi - If This World Were Mine
  11. It's clear that there are two (at least) Mod scenes just as there are two (at least) NS scenes. The original Mods appear to have been forward thinking and experimental in terms of both fashion and music. Always looking for the next thing. Much like the progressive NS scene, still around today looking to play other than the "same old, same old". I will grant that these originals may have contributed to the genesis of our scene. Whereas the Quad mods (love that phrase BTW), are just like todays "oldies", "mainstream", call it what you will, NS scene. Looking to hear the same old sounds (with a few tailor-mades thrown in for good measure). Wearing retro clothes etc etc. The thing that amuses me is that a fair proportion of those who were and are Quad Mods, have set themselves up as the NS Police and the guardians of the "proper" NS ethos, decrying the oldies brigade when in fact they were exactly the same as these people not too long ago. Admittedly on the Mod scene, but around the NS scene. A shining example of this was a few (well about 15/16) years ago when one of these Quad Mod's (who DJ's and plays Club Soul, NS and Mod sounds including Secret Affair etc) threw a drink in Ian Levine's face at a Ritz allniter for committing the sacrilege of remaking some NS classic for his Strange World of Northern Soul film, whilst wearing his Mod fancy dress suit. Irony doesn't even begin to describe that situation

  16. Shockingly Shite. Who on earth would buy a Div VD like this?
  17. This is not half bad. Good to hear this kind of music being made in 2014! https://www.reverbnation.com/thejaggerz/song/19958970-the-walk Soul music legends Gamble and Huff of Philadelphia International Records discovered, signed, and produced the blue eye soul group the Jaggerz releasing their first album "Introducing the Jaggerz" in 1969. The Jaggerz went on to score a Number 1 U.S hit with "The Rapper" that continues to be played on radio stations daily and is included on dozens of compilation albums. The Jaggerz have just released a new soulful single "The Walk". It has a tuneful melody backed by the Jaggerz rich harmonies. The Walk is receiving airplay on several radio stations in Western Pa and other stations across the country. Pittsburgh area stations playing "The Walk" include 107.1 WHJB, 1450 WDAD and 103.3 WKQL, 1160 WCCS, and 770 WKBF. The WYEP-FM Soul Show will premiere The Walk this week. The Jaggerz are a blue-eye soul band known for their rich vocals and soulful grooves. The legendary Philadelphia International team of Gamble and Huff produced the Jaggerz first album ‘Introducing the Jaggerz" in 1969. it’s an R&B classic featuring Jimmie Ross singing the Steals Brothers “Gotta Find My Way Back Home”. (The Steals Brother later wrote “Could It Be I’m Falling in Love” for the Spinners). The album as features the cuts “That Why (Baby I Love You)” and “Together”. All Music Guide praises the album: “Steeped in R&B, The Jaggerz are absolutely thrilling”.
  18. Cheap as the proverbial chips
  19. I refer the honourable gentleman to my previous answer. many tracks were first released on an album, and then had a release on a 45. using that logic, the Spinners, Isleys tracks etc are OK to play out. the Frank Wilson (whilst still a bona fide release) isn't as OK to play out, as a legitimate 45 release pre-dates it. Let's not forget many original british releases even in the 60's were often several years after the US release, and were released only to cater for demand spawned by the embryonic soul scene.
  20. Many records are only released years after they were recorded. OVO does not require contemporaneity, simply the fact that it is a legitimately licensed release.
  21. My thoughts: Marvin Gaye "Love Starved' : the original release being the limited picture sleeve promotional 7" issue from 1994. The box set single is the first legitimate UK 7" release Spinners "What More" : the original release being on the From The Vaults LP 1979. The box set single is the first legitimate UK 7" release Barbara McNair "It Happens Everytime" : the original release being from the Real Barbara McNair LP 1968 . The box set single is the first legitimate UK 7" release Isley Brothers "My Love" : originally released on Music For Pleasure LP early 70's. The box set single is the first legitimate UK 7" release Frank Wilson "Do I Love You" : obviously two known Soul original 45s , otherwise the first UK issue from the late 70's. - Agreed Originals "Suspicion" : a few original acetates known to exist, otherwise the first legitimate 7" 45 release of this would appear to be the Stardust issue unless one is of the view that some or all of the Stardust releases are not legitimately licensed? The box set single is the first legitimate UK 7" release. The Stardust release is illegitimate
