What the feck is that?
-
I am a collector mostly, and DJ sometimes. I have been told on numerous occasions by certain promoters that they personally would like to have me on but that my records are "above our crowds heads". I have no idea what that means other than I may embarrass some of their other DJ's by playing their favourites on original release vinyl I am also a smal time record label, owner. I despise bootlegs. They had a certain kind of use back in the day before compilation albums, CD's and more latterly downloads etc. But now the only purpose of bootlegs is to put money in the pockets of criminals (strong word but accurate), and to facilitate the fake spots of fake DJ's.

I have mine insured through Home & Legacy for a reasonably large sum. It covers all eventualities including DJing. It's not cheap though.
-
When I do my releases I ALWAYS order test pressings, usually 5 or 10 (depending on cost). As Carl says it can be very expensive to only see any mistakes/problems after you've done the production run. On the latest that I had done, the previously unreleased Shades Of Blue 45, they sent the first batch of test pressings as 12" singles!

I met Lou back in 1987. I went to see him at his house in Las Vegas. He was rehearsing and writing new material (mostly gospel if I recall). A true gentleman. -

There were shit loads of blank Virtue acetates around about 20 or so years ago. You could have had Frank Wilson on one if you wanted

Current Bootleg Trading (split from Soul Pack thread)
Phild replied to a topic in All About the SOUL
Looks similar to the other "lookalikes". Same pressing plant maybe? -
Maybe so. But most folks would rather book someone else to play them
-
As a promoter and occasional DJ, this is how I do it. As a promoter, I agree a minimum fee with the DJ's and pay them that even if nobody turns up. If the event is very successful I pay them more than the agreed minimum, As a DJ, I usually charge no more than a pint (and a pie if there are any). But then I'm not a "name" DJ who people particularly want to hear playing.
