  1. Actually you're right. No point paying over the odds if not needed. I just hate losing. Phil
  2. Maybe so for some. But, speaking just for myself, I like to put a reasonable bid in early just to see how far to push. It gives some ida of how much it may go to. Not sure if I'm "that" interested in this one. I know it's rarer than the Ray Pollard I won recently (which is actually in beautiful nick BTW ) but I'll deffo be going to $5k or so. Phil
  3. My current will specifies that my records get destroyed. However, I am thinking of changing it. It would be quite nice instead to have them distributed throughout various charity shops, and think of the glee on peoples faces as they find a bargain. Phil
  4. and Darrow Flether - "Little Girl", flip to "What Good Am I ..." (Jacklyn 1006). Another stunner. Phil
  5. Brothers Of Soul - "The Love I Found In You", Flip to "Come On Back" (Boo 1005). Absolutely awesome! Phil
  6. Whatever, but like I said value is in the eye of the buyer. And to me this time this record was worth, to me only, what I paid for it.
  7. Are most deals done privately? Not for me they're aren't, most of my buys are done through Ebay. I've never really had much of a clue what records are "worth". I sold large chunks of my collection 12 years or so ago to keep my head above water, and stop the house from being repo'd (again). Since things have got a bit better, I've been on a mission the last couple of years to get back every record I sold, and bar one or two I've done it. I'm now on a mission to get every record I ever wanted and the Ray Pollard is one of those that was near the top of that list. Surely a record's "true" value is what someone will pay for it? Not that it matters to me. Unless I hit really hard times again my records will be with me until the end. Phil
  8. It's a record that has some meaning for me and I never owned it before always missed out, didn't hVe enough dish or didn't bid quite enough so this time I was determined to get it so tried and won. I wouldn't have paid whatever it took though. If it had gone over $5k I'd have been stuffed
  9. Feel equally free to send me your sales list. Thing is I wanted it, I wanted it now so I got it. What's the problem?
  10. that's me
  11. Must be VG or better. PM with details. Cheers Phil

  13. I agree. It's all too easy to not see the value of something that you've made, or been involved with. I remember a few years ago binning a load of Soul City label test presses. Chris (King) and I had put a few double sider test presses (best side of 2 releases per 45) together to give to DJ's etc to promote the "new" label. I had a fair few left and they didn't fit neatly into the record filing system, so they were moved around from one shelf to another until one day I just thought they were in the way and binned the lot. Phil
  14. I'll get a list together. I still have 100's of 'em. Plus I still have over 100 copies of the Magictones - It's Better To Love on Mah's Phil
  15. I've thrown 100's & 100's away over the years. Just last year I threw at least 3-400 assorted Ric-Tic 45's away. For some reason I bulk bought loads of them in Detroit in the 90's. Nowt rare just Al Kent, Little Ann, Willie G, Andre Williams, JJ Barnes, Fantastic Four, that kind of stuff. Also a load of 70's/80's stuff including about 100 copies of Five Special - the More I get To Know You. Utter bilge. Don't whatever possessed me to buy them. Phil
  16. To me it's good to see what's happening and interesting to see what tunes are in vogue (still can't believe that rock & roll gets played at Northern Soul venues ). But then I've never really been a fully paid-up contributing memeber of either the "real" scene or the "virtual" one. The one downer is that it's made vinyl a lot more expensive by virtue of Ebay etc. However I cannot look myself in the eye and say that "yes, if I died tomorrow the world would be a worse place" ..... At best no effect whatsoever, although plenty of folks would think it'd be better without me Phil
  17. And of course the Eddie Daye & The Four Bars - Guess Who Loves You on Shrine where the B Side actually plays The Cairos - Stop Overlooking Me. I have it for sale for any reasonable offer. PM if intersted. Phil
  18. Bugger! I thought The Moments on Hog was my claim to fame. I found a copy in Detroit in 1990 and called my mate Nige Parker from a payphone I was that excited Got Danny Moore, 2 Jock Mitchells and 3 Nabays on the same day Ah well. Phil
  19. Ah right. I skipped over reading the Nashville Matrix bit Just jealous. It's in better nick than mine
  20. Ebay item no: 270496471007 I know the seller is in Michigan and therefore maybe could find an original but this looks like the boot to me. Thoughts anyone ??? Phil
  21. Sad, sad news indeed. I first met Alan through the Rocket All-Nighters and the legendary Spoofers warmups. A true gentlemen, impeccable taste in music, coupled with a thirst for knowledge about all things soulful A genuinely nice bloke with no front whatsoever. Goodnight God Bless mate. Phil
  22. My missus got me one for Xmas 13 years ago. (Selmer MkII) I never had any lessons until about 4/5 years ago, but managed up until then to get a reasonable tune out of it just by using self teach books. Getting the professional lessons really helped though and I can blow a pretty mean rendition of most stuff now. Phil
  23. Waaay too much and then perhaps not enough, because i still have a wants list Phil
