  1. Great record. I used to play this for a short while at Bradford Queens Hall back in 1988/89. Never got much of a dancefloor reaction back then. Phil

  4. New record label debuting shortly. www.soulpurposerecords.co.uk Phil
  5. The ten releases I was involved with (SC123-133) weren't boots. The later ones mostly were, I believe. The ten I did (with Chris King), were done with both the knowledge and blessing of Dave Godin. We even had him signing sleeves along with Barbara Lynn at the Cala Gran Fleetwood weekender! There were comparitively few of the Marie Knights that got out with the labels reversed. We couldn't re-do them as we only had 500 or so pairs of labels printed for each single as they were limited to a pressing run of 500. Cheers Phil
  6. Only available via our website at the moment ...... www.soul-intention.co.uk
  7. I have this. Picked it up from Art Morales (RIP), in Chicago about 20 years ago. Never been sure whether to play it out or not. Phil
  8. Soul Intention is proud to announce the release of the second great 70's double-sider from Kent Washburn's Emkay Records Catalog, "One Way Ticket" bw/ "Don't Burn No Bridges" by The Hypnotics. https://www.soul-intention.co.uk/release.htm The producer, Kent Washburn, has this to say.... "Both sides are kickin' Soul sides from the mid 70's, which feature the very unique voice of James Thompson singing lead", states Washburn. "I originally produced this group for the Warner Bros label, (Reprise). Their two WB releases, (Beware of the Stranger bw/ Girl You Know That I Love You, and Dance to the Music bw/ Memories) were national R&B charted singles, and were what actually established my career as a record producer. I am really pleased to be able to have the rest of their catalog finally released to the public." "When I hooked up with them (The Hypnotics), James Thompson was already a very successful songwriter, working with the legendary Gene Chandler out of Chicago. He had numerous cuts on Gene, plus Mel & Tim, The Impressions, Barbara Acklin, Betty(The Cleanup Woman) Wright and Krystal Generation. But he wanted to get back in the public eye as an Artist. His first group, The Voicemasters had recorded for the Bamboo Label, but the success that they had was somewhat limited and he was looking for a bigger platform to expose his songwriting abilities and unique vocal ideas. We gathered together the "St Louis A-Team" session musicians - Westmoreland Co, and went to work. We did use the legendary "Tom-Tom" Washingtom from Chidago as horn & string arrnager on some of the first stuff we cut, but the majority of what we cut was arrnaged and produced by James and myself. I love working with James. He is a true musical talent, and if things develop properly, don't be surprised if you get to hear some current sides that James and I will do. (Keep your fingers crossed
  9. High credit card limits mate
  10. I bought a Ronnie Mc Neir - Sitting in My Class advertised as a pressing and it was an original. Result!
  11. I've already signed up now This record is not going to come up again any time soon.
  12. All very complicated. All I know is I didn't win it and I'm gutted, as if I'd been a tiny bit quicker off the mark I would have
  13. Yeah. I just love the last minute manual bidding though, just like a real auction. However, this experience has left a sour taste. So maybe sniping is the way forward.
  14. Exactly! All the other bids I put in 8088, 8188, 8288 etc were all beaten by $100. The $8488 was only bid up to $8500 which tells me that was his max bid
  15. Now I need to get a sniper! I was bidding and rebidding up to the end. Put in $8488 with 13 secs to go. Outbid to $8500 which was obviously the bidders maximum bid, put in $8688 and didn't have time to get my bid in
  16. What looks like ARP in a script type writing on mine
  17. The Georgettes also provided backing vocals on the brilliant previously unreleased Otis Williams tracks from the Emkay stable that I put out on Souyl Intention last year - https://www.soul-intention.co.uk/release.htm Phil
  18. Deffo Princess Suite in Longton
  19. I have a spare if anyone wants to make a serious offer??
  20. Yes, but I like to test initially to see where it goes. Like my inItial $5000 bid on The Combinations
  21. Some very valid points there mate. I used to go to the US record hunting 3-4 times a year from the mid 80's through to the late 90's but eventually ebay and price guides ruined it. There have always been those who can afford to buy whatever they want (not always with their own money ), but those of us who dug deep, trawled through 100's of 1000's of records for hours on end could always get good pieces for our collections. But nowadays if and when we do, the dealer or store owner just logs onto the web and "that'll be $1000 please sir" soon follows. I'm sure that there are those among the collecting fraternity who can and do buy everything they want, do love the music just as much, but it's not just the mega rarities that make a collection is it? The £5/£10/£20 sounds are what make the backbone of a collection IMO
  22. You would have thought so. But to me it's kind of like cheating. I'll carry on as usual. Say I've just been outbid on a record at a little over $50 so I now have to put in $100, $150 and so on. I can't see that by using a sniper I'll ultimately end up paying any less or if so only pennies. However, there would be more chance of me NOT winning the auction by using a sniper. As you have to second guess what people might be willing to pay so there would be a temptation (for me anyway) to put less in the sniper. So, if I put $100 or $150 in and it went for say $170 I would be gutted. I seem to remember this same topic when I, at least to some anyway, paid well over the top for Ray Pollard on Shrine.
  23. I've given up on getting records cheap these days. I'm just glad to get them. I never pay more than I'm prepared to but often more than I'd like to. Just life innit?
  24. Not true. I don't use a sniper yet I regularly bid often, bid early and bid high. I win some, I lose some. I've used this technique since I first went on eBay about 15 years ago. Phil
