I agree with you Andy. I dislike lookalike reissues.

Well I am a now and then DJ and I only play original vinyl. I also run a reissue record label, but properly license everything I put out. So the rights owners etc won't be upset by my releases as they get paid. If other DJ's are upset I don't know. But reissues never bother me personally as a DJ and collector. I still want the original. But in some cases, definitely in the case of my label, this is the only way to legitimately own particular tracks. Phil

Just about to give it up properly for the first time ever. I've had a few absences before, but going to Jack it in for real this time. It's not the same anymore, doesn't Igive me a buzz these days. Too many played out do's together with "emperors new clothes" type stuff on the other side of the coin.

Both. The reason I set up this new imprint is because my other label - Soul Intention has become more focused on a 70's groove. Whereas Soul Purpose will be pretty much all 60's stuff, with reissue and previously unreleased material sharing the same 45. (on opposite sides of course) Our first release, which will shortly be announced, is an absolute corker! Even if I do say so myself

The ten releases I was involved with (SC123-133) weren't boots. The later ones mostly were, I believe. The ten I did (with Chris King), were done with both the knowledge and blessing of Dave Godin. We even had him signing sleeves along with Barbara Lynn at the Cala Gran Fleetwood weekender! There were comparitively few of the Marie Knights that got out with the labels reversed. We couldn't re-do them as we only had 500 or so pairs of labels printed for each single as they were limited to a pressing run of 500. Cheers Phil

"When I hooked up with them (The Hypnotics), James Thompson was already a very successful songwriter, working with the legendary Gene Chandler out of Chicago. He had numerous cuts on Gene, plus Mel & Tim, The Impressions, Barbara Acklin, Betty(The Cleanup Woman) Wright and Krystal Generation. But he wanted to get back in the public eye as an Artist. His first group, The Voicemasters had recorded for the Bamboo Label, but the success that they had was somewhat limited and he was looking for a bigger platform to expose his songwriting abilities and unique vocal ideas. We gathered together the "St Louis A-Team" session musicians - Westmoreland Co, and went to work. We did use the legendary "Tom-Tom" Washingtom from Chidago as horn & string arrnager on some of the first stuff we cut, but the majority of what we cut was arrnaged and produced by James and myself.
