  1. I think I may have a spare of this. I'll take a look over the next couple of days and get back to you
  2. I think they're all great
  3. A recommendation list of what?
  4. That is just sheer twattishness (is that a word?). On the other side of the coin, many people are just far too picky and unrealistic in their expectations of what a 40 to 50 year old record is going to be like.
  5. In my opinion, if I buy a record that looks OK and plays through then I really don't care. The records we collect are on the whole over 40 years old after all

    Irony

I have licensed and put out a couple of tracks in my time, mostly on vinyl. But in most cases, in my experience anyway, the rights are not owned by the artists themselves. So they get little if any of the fees paid. If they wrote the song then they may get some part of the mechanical royalties paid to MCPS etc. In the case of compilation CD's the amount paid per track (usually a small advance plus a percentage of the dealer price divided by the number of tracks on the CD) is likely to be not much at all. But even so, to echo what Ady says. The artists are generally very happy to receive the recognition that they get from a legitimate release of their work.
  7. Unbelievable! I've got this (with the record). The sleeve is pretty tatty though to be honest. But $1600 ????
  8. I have tried and tried with Ebay, reporting bootlegs etc. Sales of my most recent release Gloria Jones - Gone With The Wind Is My Love were utterly ruined by a shite single sided bootleg. Licensing, production etc don't come cheap and I ended up losing out quite heavily as a result. In fact on Ebay this very day there are more bootleg copies of that track for sale than my legitimate ones.
  9. I have a real mix of stuff of which I have two or more of. Some big money stuff, most not.
  10. Just stuff picked up along the way. I used to try and get two of everything at one time, particularly the double siders like The Cashmeres. Or issue and demo where possible (which some of the above are a result of). Or is this another of those sarcastic posts?

  12. Shurely Shome Mishtake
  13. But it should matter. If you allow/play boots then you may as well just allow people to use a laptop with mp3's. If that's what the night is about then so be it, each to their own. But to me if you're DJ'ing then even the most played out of played out oldies should be on original vinyl. End of!
  14. What he's obvioulsy done here is hit the 3 on his keyboard instead of the decimal point. They are right next to each other. Just had a look at his "other items". Why on earth do I bother collecting real records? A related problem is that a growing number of "DJ's" proudly stand behind the decks with shite like this. Keeping it real playing actual proper vinyl. Makes my effing blood boil.
  15. I have 2 at £150 each
  16. And there was I thinking he wasn't going to comment any more (as per his earlier post) I don't even have a veyron anymore. In these tough times I've had to downgrade to a Lamborghini Countach
  17. Supply and demand. Exactly what drives the whole of our economy. It;s not just records it's everything. next you'll be saying that someone should be able to buy my veyron for th price of a skoda
  18. I wasn't justifying anything. I don't need to justify anything to anybody
  19. If I only had a tenner I'd have more money than sense
  20. FFS. I have already said that I put the "laugh" comment as I was embarrassed that I hadn't read the description when I put the bid in as I was suffering from over indulgence. People who know me would have recognised my sense of humour immediately. I then continued due to the fact that loads of others on here, including you, have obviously had a humourectomy.
  21. Well if I have then I apologise unreservedly. As far as buying records I want, then money is no object. Provided I have that money in my Paypal account. Money I get from selling records stays in my Paypal account and is used solely for buying other records, so I don't look upon it as costing me anything. As for what doubles I've got. What are you after? I might just be able to help.
  22. And as for knackering the auction. It shouldn't even be up for auction IMO. OK so I should have read the description, I admit. But you dont expect records on EBay to have big chunks missing. And if the record was very beat up but intact and playable then $888 would have been a fair price to pay
  23. In no way was I smug, and I never said I was a discerning buyer, in fact I'm not at all. And if people want to slag me off for what I do then I will attempt to defend my corner
  24. I admit I was a bit of. F*ckwit for not reading the description properly. In my defence we had had a poker night after work and I was a little tired and emotional. You didn't call me a criminal but there seems to be some intimation that paying what others consider to be OTT prices for stuff is somehow wrong or immoral
  25. But the point is that a record (or anything else for that matter) is worth whatever someone is willing to pay. If I want a record I will pay whatever I can afford to pay to get it. And if by doing so i f*ck it up for someone else, tough sh!t. Nothing wrong with that. Just because I can and do, does that mean I'm somehow less of a collector than anyone else? I've been buying records seriously since 1978 (admittedly back then I couldn't afford hardly anything). And now, due to my good luck that some of the stuff I got 2, 3, 4 copies of (through hard work digging in the US for many years) are worth many, many times what I paid for them I can buy stuff I only ever dreamed of. Does that make me some kind of record collecting criminal ?
