  4. ....... first Hary starr cost me £20, second a bit more expensive 3 years ago. first £100er was: Mel Hueston - Searchin' took some records odwn 100 club in mid/late 80s for a friend to sell and this was in them, couldn't afford it at the time but paid more fr it later ;-) should be played out more. steve
  5. didn't hear any more about it so not sure where he's banged up or for how long. never saw it in the post either and i looked for a while. spoke to Etna (Hucknall) last year at Skeg and it was a friend of a friend of hers who it happened to. Shippo sorely missed as well, loved seeing him do backdrops, especially at Matlock. steve
  6. saw Evo about 3? years back at Bestwood, got chatting and said he'd put weight on, pot/kettle ;-) said he'd been having women problems, didn't pursue it as he was off to Stoke niter, said i'd send him "Downtown Crowd" RA later. did next day and said hope he gets his prolems with the women sorted. 'bout 2 weeks later, got phone call from constabulary somewhere up Newcastle way, asking about him, said they had his computer and saw my message about his women on it and wanted to know what i meant. all innocent stuff i said, then asked what it was all about. said he'd gone from Bestwood to Newcastle not stoke, and MURDERED his girlfriend. was in papers. only way they caught im was by 2 speeding tickets he got that night showing he was on A1 and not at Stoke. didn't believe it of him but shows you can't always tell. steve
  7. .................. first got into "Soul" at the (Annie Holgate) School Club, John Black one of djs, fave records from then were "(Accept My) Invitation" - Band Of Angels Jimmy London - Shake A Hand Lesley Gore - Maybe I Know held a few niters there at one time, with Soul Man Sam (Jeff), gotta be the smallest venue ever for a niter. 13. still see Tich ( Paul Lightly ) from Vinyl Mania occasionally, responsible for providing some sounds Jimmy Wensiora played in 80s. organises Underwood Welfare. can remember Rob Wigley (consdad) singing "New York In the Dark" coming down stairs in Trotters during a power cut there. Curly, bloody hell, used to bum 2p off everyone in queue so he could get in niters. steve
  14. stayed as Syd Booths, just by small market by library, upstairs shop. Valances was seperate shop. put Dave from Valances onto Mamie Lee "Slippin Away" from Record corner at 35p a time and he sold dozens. steve
  15. remember it well, followed someone home from there once in fog and parked behind them on their driveway, must have thought i was right nutter. few sounds from there: Marvels - Keep On Searching Ben E King - what Can A Man Do Twiggy - Beutiful Dreams ( Samanth Jones cover up). still see Rob Smith and Dennis Mac but not seen Roy since it shut. miss Sammy from those days, skinhead who always wore combat trousers and took whole of floor up when he danced, lost leg in motorbike accident, last i saw him was a niter at Warrington i took him to. cheers steve
  16. saw him other year at annesley welfare, not changed a bit. served my time with "Horace" at Combo at Sutton Junction, his first niter was at Wigan, walked it from Bolton with me, nearest we could get to Wigan from Blackpool by train. if i see him again i'll get some details. did quite a few of places mentioned here later in thread, another name from past, Rich Broughton, not seen for a while but heard he's still around Mansfield/Notts. great collection. always wanted his Opel GT off him but woudn't sell, TMG number plate. Dave from Valances was a Blidworth lad who ran AJQ mobile disco with Baz Donaldson from Rainworth, knocked about with them for a while; Dave worked for Sony in town for a while. had some bargains from Syd Booths courtesy Phil Kingswood and Derek before him at old shop. went to first niter organised by Phil at Syd booths, aircraft hanger in Leeds ;-) two busloads from Mansfield! cheers steve

  18. if memory serves me right, he did, thought he was to have sold them but some stuff never saw light of day, but don't quote me on that! had a few records few years later from a guy in Thorne, Bill ?????, he got a lo of cheap stuff that no one else bid on, but none of the biggies.
