For what it's worth Record Collector price guide quotes the Don Thomas p/s demo at £20. It was released in May 1976. It prices the stock copy at £10. there are foreign picture sleeve price guides if you look around. I have French, German and Dutch guides acquired over the years. The French is the most complete although the Dutch isn't far behind. a visit to record fairs in Sweden, Spain and Italy and talking to dealers there is a good way to know what's available and the prices. English is generally spoken by the established dealers. Plus a nice weekend in Madrid, Stockholm or Milan, well worth the trip. Get Out turns up at French record fairs and sells for around 20-30 euro. I just looked on Popsike and saw one sold for £100 although generally it looks to sell for £40-£50. Presumably the £100 record has shill bidding involved?

At the larger events I see some DJs also selling records/cd's etc. when they are not playing so making money in another way. Do promoters charge for this or is it part of the deal (or even goes unspoken)? In it's own way no different to buying artist merchandise at a concert.

2015 - Polls - Top Soul Event of the Year Nominations
bobkayli replied to Mike's topic in All About the SOUL
Mitch Ryder at Prestatyn and the Contours at the Butlins Weekender. Two wonderful moments. -
The Otis Redding 45 is part of a French series of Otis releases. I think that there are 24 numbered vol 1, vol 2 etc. They were issued after his death. You see them regularly at French record fairs. If this one has some special significance as northern or exceptionally rare tracks unissued elsewhere, i don't know. Unless so, I would expect to pick it up in top condition for less than 5 euros. The Jerms 45 looks Spanish. Depending on condition it could be worth around 20 euros as a mod northern soul item.

It may not answer your question but some other background on his tour: Little Stevie Wonder played at the Ricky Tick Club in Windsor on Thursday January 27th 1966. The DJ at the club still plays around the Reading area and i remember he had an original flyer for the event. The club was a key part of the Soul scene in the Thames Valley at the time. Besides many soul greats, others such as the early Rolling Stones played there. Disappointing to relate that today it's a Brown's Restaurant so it has lost it's individual flair. I could probably put you in touch with the DJ if it helps.

I hesitate writing about this on such a site, but has anybody signed up to Apple music? I received their three month free trial offer. Since i listen to music on the move, i was wondering could it be a useful add-on to my i-phone/i-pod. however i can't find any information as to what is on the site to see if a soul lover would find it worthwhile. I hate signing up for these free offers since they ask for credit card details so, as sure as night follows day, they will end up charging me when i forget to cancel the subscription when i forget to cancel at the end of the free trial. any experience you may have of it (or even Spotify) would be gratefully received.

I have it on app on my phone and it works a treat. Was introduced to it years ago and it beats trying to remember putting in a late bid (I always forget) and also limits tricky e-bay sellers shill bidding if I bid early.

I bought a Belgium copy at Utrecht yesterday. Looks to be a 70s issue also with picture sleeve presumably coinciding with the UK release.

Annoying Things The Media Say When They Talk About Northern Soul
bobkayli replied to a topic in All About the SOUL
The TV programs that start with film of the drab industrial North smoking chimneys and all. Then we are told that this was our escape from humdrum existence. Then to stereotype us all as having no life apart from northern soul is grating and condescending to say the least. It was fabulous but there was football, the pub, girls, family..... -
is the Edwin Starr sleeve from Turkey? Looks like the French sleeve. Does the numbering on the sleeve match the record?.

There has to be a comment about JS and Vernon girls but not worth a visit from the site moderator. No doubt a first pressing.

France and Major Lance If i were a poet, i'd continue the rhymes with dance and chance but I'll spare you all that

For France Jukebox magazine has produced several Argus guides on French releases in the 60s. They show a photo of the picture sleeve or label if no picture sleeve as well as the record details. They give a mint price guide based on French values. The prices can be notoriously deceptive for rare soul items where there is strong foreign demand. Daniel Delorme also published a book on R&B related EPs in similar format back in the 80s. Neither are complete but both are very credible works. My own lists go further than both since jukebox 45s are not listed in either of the works. for Italy the magazine Raro has produced something but it' has a lot missing since there is no reliable documentation to work with. there is a German guide that I've seen German dealers with but I don't know what it's called. I've also listings from several other European countries which are mainly compiled privately fro different sources. the vinyl scene is healthy in quite a few countries.

seeing the numbering and that RCA were responsible for the distribution, i would put them as first pressings.

OK, I once saw a dealer selling a copy of the Jackie Day EP. Would have liked it but at the eight hundred quid he was asking, i thought it better to pass.

where is it from?
