I've just been to The Harold this afternoon to pay for the room hire - I was told that the function room has just been redecorated & the toilets are almost finished with a refurb. I would have liked to take a few pics now that it's all sounding so posh, but didn't like to ask cos I think the workmen were still up there & Chris (the club steward) was very busy in the downstairs bar. Sounds good though!
But I DID manage to get some sample bar prices! 🍺 🍷🍻 🍺🍷
Here goes:-
Tetley's/John Smith's....... 3.70
Carling/Coors........ 4.00
Fosters....... 3.90
San Miguel...... 4.20r
Guinness........ 4.30
Cider....... 3.60
🍺🍻🍺🍻🍺
Not bad eh?😜

Hi all - it's Kath here with a bit of feedback from last night.
First of all, Soul Brew would like to say thanks to all those who came to support us at our final night at The George - all the DJs absolutely smashed it & kept the dance floor busy all night. Special thanks must go to our guest DJ Mark Rice from Halifax Soul Club for his storming set!
Thanks too to local author John Knight for bringing along a selection of his excellent novels for a book signing - all John's books make for a brilliant read!
Soul Brew have a joint event planned with Halifax Soul Club at Halifax Irish Centre on Saturday 18th May, when The Time Tunnel's (Dublin) Lucy Brennan will be doing a guest spot.💃🕺💃🕺
Friday June 21st will see the Soul Brew DJs setting up their sound system at The Harold Club in Low Moor, for their very first event there. 🔥
Soul Brew's regular 2nd Sunday events at Jeremy's in Brighouse will still carry on as normal - for more info on all our events, please look us up on our Facebook page or find us on Soul Source.🙂
Once again - thanks for supporting us - thanks for dancing - we couldn't do it without you!

Well, there's only one more sleep until our last night at The George - have to say I've got mixed feelings! On the one hand all of us at Soul Brew will be very sad to say goodbye to the lovely Mead Hall, but also looking forward to setting up at our cracking new venue.
On Saturday 18th May we have a one-off joint event planned with Motor City Soul Club at Halifax Irish Centre, when our guest DJ will be Lucy Brennan (from The Time Tunnel, Dublin). Have to say I'm really looking forward to that one!
Then Friday 21st June will see Soul Brew setting up for our first event at our new venue - The Harold Club, Low Moor, Bradford! We've only very recently gone public with the news, but so far, we've had lots of very positive feedback👍👍 from our friends on the soul scene about our new venture. I've been a regular at Harold soul nights for so long it'll feel a bit like going home for me! ☺️
Soul Brew's regular at Jeremy's in Brighouse on the 2nd Sunday of the month will still carry on as normal. 🙂
There's more info about our forthcoming events on Soul Source events page.
Onwards & upwards as they say! See you on the dance floor......💃🕺💃🕺💃🕺

17 hours ago, Rabsurf said:Really disappointing to lose my local venue, with "easy" walking access, will now have to look further away..... enjoyed this through the pain of old age and post pandemic lethargy...
We were both there at the first ... hope we will be both there for the last night.
Just thought this was starting to take off ... shame!!!
We were very happy at the George & we'll all be very sad to say goodbye to it, but these things happen 😢. I can't really say too much just yet, but Soul Brew have plans........one door closes & another opens as they say..........all I can say is let's make our last night at The George a cracker & watch this space......😉

Local author John Knight will be joining us for our last night at The George. He will be bringing with him a selection of signed copies of his Jimmy Mack novels - all based on the life of a young 1960s Mod. I can promise you an excellent read!
"The series celebrates the swinging Sixties, with a detailed look at life in 1960s Britain. Set in the fashion industry of the time, it explores the impact that it had on life. Multi-faceted themes explore societal change, politics, the power of the establishment, the class divide, the sexual revolution, religion, crime, and much more through an existentialist eye. As in all the previous novels, there is a soundtrack. Each chapter is prefaced with a recording that lends itself thematically to the written words and acts as a backdrop to the content."

Excellent night last night. Mopsey played some fab tunes. A lovely balance of regular stuff and introduced me to some new sounds that I hadn't heard. Looking forward to his next visit.
Had a destroyed back from over exercising last week and yet still couldn't resist a boogie to some of the ace tunes played.
Thankyou so much
Rob the mod
Glad you had a good night Rob - it's always great to hear some new tunes!

Hi all - Kath here with a bit of feedback on last night.
It was really good to see some new faces - also great to see some old friends that I'd not seen for quite some time.❤️
All the DJS played cracking sets & kept the dance floor busy all night - well done Steve, Stuart & Carl - thanks & well done too to our guest DJ Dennis Convery. You nailed it guys!
I think the icing on the cake was when a young lad came in with his parents. His Mum told me later that he'd been hassling them for a long time to go to a soul night, but they'd told him he would have to wait until he was 18. Yesterday was his 18th birthday, so where did he choose to celebrate it? You guessed it! That lad never left the dance floor all night - obviously been doing a bit of dancing on the carpet at home too cos he could really dance. He & his parents were among the last to leave so I had chance for a quick word - he had a big grin on his face & said he'd had a great night. Made my night!❤️👍🙂
Thanks to all who came to support us last night - as always it's very much appreciated - let's do it all again next month when our guest DJ will be none other than Don Morris (Mopsey) Bring it on!!

Well - what can I say? As always, everyone seemed to have a good night - I heard lots of great feedback from around the room "nice atmosphere..."....."cracking little venue"......"music was spot on" The one fly in the ointment was that the room was a bit on the cool side - we had to ask the manager to turn up the heating! Apart from that - it was a great night with most of the usual friendly regulars there to support us. It was nice to welcome a few new faces too!
Big shout out to all the DJs - Soul Brew's Marc, Stuart & Steve - plus guest DJ Ian Smith - you absolutely smashed it guys! Well done - all played on original vinyl. 👍
Thanks too to all those who braved the cold night to support us - thanks for joining us & thank for dancing. Let's do it all again next month when our guest DJ will be Denis Convery (Outwood soul club).

The Irish Centre has a good-sized room - holds up to 200 - but you'll need to get there early if you want a seat! There's been a lot of interest & we're expecting a very busy night!
I asked the Irish Centre if they could give me a few sample bar prices so here goes:-
San Miguel - 4.10
Carlsberg - 3.90
Guinness 4.25
Shorts - single - 3.75, but you can double up for an extra 2.00.
Not bad eh? Much better than a lot of venues I've been to!
