It's awful. But, I guess "let's play it because it's not well known" syndrome.
Peter
I'll second that one Peter - it gets a thumbs down from me too!

R.I.P. Frankie & thank you for the music xx

I think The Game (Cold War spy thriller set in the 1970s) on BBC Iplayer is well worth a watch. I've found quite a few decent dramas on there recently.

Is anyone watching Sherwood on BBC 1? It gets a big thumbs up from me - I do like my gritty dramas!

Sad news - saw him at The Wheel back in the 1960s

Brenda Holloway did You Didn't say a Word too, but it's Yvonne Baker's version every time for me

Hi all
I'm Ricky, I have always been into vintage music , Including RnB, Mowtown, Rockin blues, Early Soul. Northern Soul, My mum brought me up on that, Sadly went the Rockin blues route but now getting a taste back for Northern Soul once again, After finding a fab location recently on my YouTube channel explores This has got me excited..Ritz Ballroom Brighouse, Wow what an atmosphere here , Even though the dancing gas stopped, The History in the walls survives.
Pleased to be a member of this Great Group. Thank you. KTF.
Welcome to Soul Source Ricky - enjoy!

One of my friends back in the 1960s used to sing along - voice at full volume - to The Beatles Day Tripper. She was convinced the lyrics were "She's a big Jesus.." & not "She's a big teaser..." So embarrassed when she found out the correct words when she was young but laughs about it now.

Me? I've just been for a lung scan - nowt to worry about - just a routine thing, but that's about as exciting as my day's going to get!

I normally see plenty of swallows, swifts & house martins every year swooping over the fields where I walk my dog - some just passing through heading north on migration & others decide to spend the summer here. This year we've had a few swallows passing through - none seem to have stayed & not seen any swifts or house martins at all....

Have to be honest - I've never been a great fan of footie - but good luck guys - you've got this! I won't be absolutely glued to the match tonight, but I'll probably be doing a bit of channel-hopping to see how it's all going........

I've got quite a wide taste in music but this just isn't my cuppa tea at all - sounds way too synthesized & repetitive for me.

So I'd say nah, best if we keep things as per below
I agree with Mike here - I have very strong political views but try to keep it all separate to the soul scene as it can lead to so many arguments & fall outs. Sometimes I have to bite my tongue so bloody hard it hurts!

I don’t know any A list dj using a laptop at venues, maybe at some divvy club? Mp3s have never been welcomed whilst I have been going, it has always been about the bit of plastic, even if that is a boot or carver.

Sad news indeed. RIP Jimmy & thank you for the music. xx

I'm very much a live and let live kinda bloke on many things in society in general , plenty of things get my goat that I think why would you want to do that.
Back to the point in question, I don't get out much anymore, pre covid I watched a mate and his group of friends dancing in a circle, arms waving in the air ,I hesitate to call it dancing to Petula Clark so a double whammy there, I just thought what is it coming to, no!! no!! no!!. Bear in mind this was a group of people with history on the scene not johhny come lately's . When i questioned him he said as you have said above "it was just a bit of fun".
I've read many threads on here regarding lets say the dumbing down of the scene, be it Tv exposure, the proms, baggy trousers etc and there seems to be a split between a hardcore group of people who up vote anything defending the scene as was and rarely see any other point of view, nothing wrong in that , I admire their undoubted devotion to scene they've lived their life on, on the other hand you have the more relaxed attitude where people don't get too hot under the collar about it, both sides I feel have the right to express their view. What I do find annoying is what I sometimes see as those defending the scene of old belittling those with a different view when those people it seems to me have just as much love and knowledge for and of the scene through time spent.
I guess it's something that is not going to go away, something we are going to have to live with. I don't like it, personally don't think it has a place , it would appear more people as they get older and can't dance as once they did are maybe looking for alternative ways to enjoy the night, taking the scene less seriously.
Unfortunately the wider public's view of Northern Soul tends to be one taken from the media which always focus on the same aspects, vests, baggy trousers ,circle skirts and four or five tunes, I have got to the stage when someone asks me what music I enjoy I never say Northern Soul, I'll say 60's soul, rare soul, if they then mention NS I'll say yes and try to explain away the media view.
Just to be clear, I don't like it, don't think it has a place, I just shake my head and let them get on with it, I won't be losing any sleep over it, should I choose to venture out again given the choice I'd be at Ashton Ukranian Club as I used to do pre covid where the true scene I believe is still alive and thriving.
My thoughts exactly - couldn't have put it better! It's becoming almost too embarrassing to say you like Northern now..... Have to say I saw the video & thought WTF!!!!!

Series 2 of Blue Lights is every bit as good as the first series!
Also watching The Gone, on BBC iplayer. Based in New Zealand - it's good & well worth watching even if only for the scenery - it looks stunning!

Went to the Blue Orchid near Derby in Les Cokell's van. Les insisted we all took our 'keep awake additives' before we got there. It was bloody closed. Spent the night in a motorway service station being stared at by the motorway police. Enough to give you the horrors.
Still, they were happy days.
I wouldn't have found it funny at the time but I can't help laughing now!

Hi , thanks for accepting me.
I started my soul travels at the Brazenose St , Twisted Wheel around 1964, then Whitworth St. but had many great time at the Plebs and Cellar 44 in Halifax and a few different soul venues including Burnley and Blackpool Meccas. anyone remember these spots from the 60s?
Be good to hear.,
My first all-nighter was at The Golden Disc in Keighley (aged 15 - my parents would have killed me if they'd known!) Also tried Blackpool Mecca, The Birdtrap, Lord Jim's, Plebs (Halifax) & String o' Beads (Bradford) but mostly it was The Wheel (Whitworth St) for me & then either The Blue Note or Top 20 on a Sunday morning - I was there pretty much every weekend without fail from 1966-1970. Fab times & I'd love to turn back the clock & do it all again!

Tv - Must Watch Shows

I'm halfway through it & had pretty much the same tdhoughts - police incompetence etc. I reckon a bit of dramatic license makes for a more dramatic story-line - bit like some of the British press! Gripping series & well worth watching none the less.
Also just watched The Hunt for Raoul Moat (old series that was repeated very recently) Well worth another watch - it's easy to forget just how horrific it all was for those involved & also for the residents of the area.
