  1. Too many promoters chasing too few punters. A couple of weeks ago I went to a venue that I hadn't attended in a couple of years. It used to be well supported, but numbers had really dropped off. In fact, one part of the main room was reserved for a 60th birthday party and there was a hen party elsewhere. Neither of these parties were there for the music, so I'm assuming the venue owners were just happy for them to make up the numbers. Some of the birthday party goers were asking for requests and unfortunately the DJ obliged as we were subjected to an hour of club soul, while they danced around a pile of shoes. The DJ in question was later seen availing himself of the birthday buffet. Judas! Needless to say, I won't be rushing back.
  2. You never needed to have a record collection to be part of the scene at any time in its history.
  3. I'd like to say that the current Northern Soul scene is like a box of chocolates, but unfortunately, more often than not you know what you're going to get.
  4. I don't think the statement "You may be able to spot these if you can source an old photograph of the building" counts as provenance.
  5. The current state of the Northern Soul scene? So it's not down to the amount of events, or even the quality of those events. It's not even down to the number of attendees, or their age. It's nothing to do with the music that gets played. It isn't about the amount of money that promoters make, or what they pay their DJs. As demonstrated in this thread, it is, was, and always will be about the width of your trouser bottoms.
  6. For me, this comes to mind.......
  7. You can freeze them raw or cooked, in or out of the shell. Probably safer than trying to store them.
  8. Either cook them and freeze them, or dry them out and store somewhere cool in a biscuit tin.
  9. This is identical to the one I got off UK Amazon...... https://www.amazon.com/Essential-Motown-Northern-Soul-Various/dp/B07G2CTJ4R/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1539032593&sr=8-1&keywords=Essential+motown
  10. Sweet dreams Peter........
  11. Impressions - I've Been Trying.....
  12. No point trying to analyse it, as the brain is bypassed. The ears channel the music direct to the soul, and the soul guides the feet.
  13. Article in Stuart's local rag.... https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/lifestyle/entertainment/books/732431/soul-man-why-stuart-cosgroves-latest-book-harlem-69-is-more-than-simply-a-history-of-soul-music/
  14. Mine's a boot.
  15. He needs to Get Out more.
  16. He must have had his tail docked over in Romania. Our dog was docked but he was born just before it was banned in this country.
  17. Have you got a name for him, Peter?
  18. Considering Anglo American are the sole supplier of this book, and have already taken full payment including postage for pre-orders, the least I would expect as a paying customer is notification that the release date has slipped by a month. It's just good customer relations. I shouldn't have to find out about it on an online forum.
  19. Thanks for setting the record straight, but 5 months from taking pre-orders until release seems a long time to me.
  20. So has the release date been delayed by a month because the pre-order target hasn't been reached?
  21. Received my copy on Saturday from that Amazon place....
  22. Lost count of the number of times I've crossed the Bay of Biscay, but can probably count the good crossings on one hand.
  23. Faro Productions? For £1800 you can have a week self catering for two in Faro, including flights, plus £1500 spending money. I know which I'd prefer.
  24. Manship's Law of Vinyl Acceleration.
  25. Can't take credit for this one, it was taken by my youngest lad Joe. However I will be having words with him and his girlfriend for feeding my dog rubbish......
