  1. Just got this delivered. Very impressive looking box set. Well worth the money.
  2. Bloody hell Dave. Next they'll be saying that Spencer's perpetuated the myth that you dance better in their trousers.
  3. Find it strange that the promoter "offered the venue", as though it was his to offer. I thought that would be down to the owner.
  4. Somewhere to hang the key to my happiness.
  5. Have a few standing at the front blocking the view for added authenticity.
  6. In the immortal words of Fred Pontin....."Book early". You might try telling the Keir Hardie Hall management it's "your venue". They obviously didn't realise.

  8. "Gate City Soul" is a documentary film that follows the journeys, struggles and accomplishments of Roy Roberts, Walter Grady, George Bishop and a dozen others who chased their dreams of success in the music business during the 1960s and 1970s - not in New York, Chicago or Memphis, but in a place not generally regarded as the epicenter of the music business: Greensboro, North Carolina. Throughout the 1960s and 70s, Greensboro, NC, was regarded as a “must-play” town by most popular national Rhythm and Blues acts. The large, young adult population from the area’s historically Black universities would practically guarantee sold-out shows at local venues. And if you were a young man from rural North Carolina or Tennessee hoping to cross paths with national music business big shots, Greensboro might naturally call to you. “Gate City Soul” is a documentary film that follows the journeys, struggles and accomplishments of some of these men: guitar player Roy Roberts; producer Walter Grady; multi-instrumentalist George Bishop and a dozen other creative and talented local residents who pursued their dreams of success — not from music industry epicenters like New York, Chicago or Memphis, but from their own home base of East Greensboro. This story will be told primarily through the oral histories of our characters themselves — Roy Roberts, George Bishop, Slack Johnson and others. Family members, business associates and historians will also share their perspective on these events and times. We’ll see photos and film of what it was like to be part of the Greensboro’s R&B music scene 1960s and 70s. And of course, we will get to hear the music that was written, recorded and produced by dozens of musicians, songwriters, recording engineers and producers in Greensboro, North Carolina. “I’ve got a PhD in the underworld of music…” — George Bishop, Leader of “The Mighty Majors” & Founder of Gate City Records Trailer Video below : http://vimeo.com/92825104 Full information on the film and (regular updates as the work progresses) at the website > http://www.gatecitysoul.com/ Windlesoul May 19 2014 08:00 AM Really looking forward to seeing this one progress. 9. Seems out of order for what is a private party. Or am I missing something? Surprised the club owner didn't tell the promoter to do one, although I imagine this guy threatened to throw his toys out of the pram and take his business elsewhere. How did the promoter find out?
  10. My two lads used to collect it when it first came out and I'm sure they've got some of it stowed away somewhere. I'll ask them if they want to get shot.
  11. It's up there with Grease.
  12. They tend to be a bunch of knobs in these Superstores, think they are doing you a favour by selling you it. They generally know knack all about what they are selling and are totally f*cked when you ask them a technical question. Prefer to use local specialist shops who are knowledgeable about the products they are selling and have much better after sales service. You can normally get them to price match the big boys, or they'll throw in some extras just to secure a sale. Also, the likes of Richer Sounds are a better option and normally offer a free five year warranty instead of trying to flog you one.
  13. Could always blame immigrants.
  14. What? Actually I did hear that on the Grapevine.
  15. No, it's only a 30 minute slot.
  16. This England (again).
  17. "Borrowed" a Lambretta Trojan bubble car to go to a weekender in the northwest the other week.....
  18. Robbing the rich to transport the poor. Nice one.
  19. That's got to be the understatement of the year.
  20. I had an image of some little old dear in the local charity shop with Manship's guide until you posted that.
  21. Topic was covered most recently back in September......
  22. I would genuinely like to see me demonstrate this technique live, given that I'm not a DJ and haven't a scooby what it is.
  23. Just received a copy of Gregory Porter's double LP Liquid Spirit, with a cover of The In Crowd on side 3.......nice. https://youtu.be/O7xjqhqPHC4
