  1. Went to one recently and it was like a Darby and Joan club.
  2. I have images of the Specsavers advert.......short sighted Northern Soul dance instructor starts throwing himself about the stage in front of a load of OAPs waiting for the tombola.
  3. Nice one Manus. I wonder if anyone has asked him to sign their cereal box yet? Imagine looking down the row of autograph hunters and seeing someone with a variety pack?
  4. Did til a couple of years ago, but had to give it up because of the arthritis. I do politely applaud if I like a record. You wonder where these journalists get their information. Probably interviewing somebody who decided to take the piss, and because the journo didn't know any better, he took it as gospel. Your average all nighter back then must have been like a cross between a martial arts tournament, a Black Panther rally and a clown's convention.
  5. The poster for the US release. Completely different tag line.......
  6. Just checked my old Revolver turntable which also has a straight tonearm. On both this and my Pro-ject, the tip of the stylus reaches a good inch past the spindle. Mass, I believe, is a major factor, straight tonearms need to be longer than an S shaped arm to have a similar mass.
  7. I've got a Pro-ject deck at home. This has a straight tone arm, although the head shell is offset at about 45 degrees.
  8. Reading through this thread earlier and thought WTF? When I later noticed you'd posted on it, Pete, I thought maybe someone is going to throw some light on the subject. Cheers Pete, you didn't disappoint.
  9. Some dealer paid a grand for Alf Roberts and the Uprights on Corrie. Thought I noticed JM having a swift one in the Rovers.
  10. She'd have really brought him down if she scratched the A side.
  11. Yes, it's certainly brought it to the attention of those looking for the next big thing, including the Topman designers. They say fashions go around in circles, and it looks like the 70's are under the spotlight at the moment. Most of us wouldn't be seen dead in some of the stuff we wore back then, and it'll be amusing if today's youth adopt the look. What they parade on the catwalk and what makes it onto the high street are two different things.
  12. "We don't know how long it will take for the wider trouser to catch on for guys, but the hedonistic party spirit of Northern Soul is still going strong today." "Topman Design has generated a collection perfect for introducing a new generation to the ever-cool Northern Soul culture. So for spring summer 2016 prepare to bust a move on Topman’s Northern Soul Train." https://www.dazeddigital.com/fashion/article/25076/1/how-northern-soul-sparked-a-fashion-revolution Right On Now.
  13. Shop around, and you can get each box set for £40 at What Records. https://www.whatrecords.co.uk/items/67480.htm https://www.whatrecords.co.uk/items/67479.htm
  14. Got a flyer in front of me for a "Mini Nighter", or that's what the promoter is calling it, 8pm to 4am. I would class it as a Soul Night with a late finish.
  15. I must have managed to fit the Third Anniversary in between my ship at the time being West Indies Guard Ship earlier that year and going on a Far East deployment later in the year. Definitely remember going down with Kev Sowerby and a few others from Penrith.
  16. I'm still waiting for Greenwoods to bring out their Northern Soul range.
  17. The young lad doing the modelling can pull it off. Fat, bald fifty somethings can't.
  18. Had to do a double take when I saw the Capitol box set reviewed in this month's What HiFi. A five star review with So Is The Sun the stand out track.
  19. Barrino Brothers - I Shall Not Be Moved....
  20. Happy anniversary, Brian.
  21. Any footwork involved? If not, I think I've mastered the "Tighten Up". I'm assuming there's three twists of the wrist, the switching of hands being on the fourth beat. Yeah baby, tighten up.
  22. Brilliant. Reminds me of those photos you used to see in the barber shop. "What will it be today, young man?" "I'll have the Russ Winstanley, please".
  23. I'm a great exponent of the Mess Around.
