  1. Bit frosty this morning. Took this on the phone whilst walking the dog along the River Eamont.
  2. This f@#%ing cat has a lot to answer for....
  3. I'm wearing a pair of Moab Ventilators right now. Very comfy. Paid £34 for them on Amazon two months ago and I must have worn them every day.
  4. That's a ten from Len.
  5. If I'd paid £20 for the first lesson I'd expect to be the dog's dangly bits on the dance floor.
  6. A lot of people seem to have a "one style fits all" dance and don't vary it regardless of the type of record they're dancing to. Not saying it's the case with this guy, but I witness it at every event I go to, people doing the same dance no matter what the beat or tempo.
  7. That is so sad. Rest in Peace, Sharon.
  8. To dance "proper", there's only one thing you need, and that's soul.
  9. Nice one, and many happy returns Steve.
  10. Don't tend to get sentimental about shoes. When they're worn out I get a new pair. Adidas Sambas are my current footwear of choice on the dance floor. Like to have a bit of grip so I get p*ssed off with people who cover the floor with talc, but that's for another topic.
  11. Nela Mann, B side of Whisper and Shout.
  12. 5 degrees, that's a heatwave! Trudging through snow yesterday.
  13. I can't help you with the names of any of the dancers, a couple of years too early for me. They would have probably been approached by RW after the BBC contacted him, needing some dancers after finding out Wigan's Chosen Few didn't exist and Pan's People couldn't do back drops. A few years later a couple of my mates appeared on the Saturday Banana along with Vernon and a few other Casino regulars. At the time it would have been a big adventure, given a return train ticket to Southampton, put up in a hotel overnight, chauffeured to the Southern Television studios for a bit of a dance in front of a load of kids, and getting to meet everybody's favourite Goodie, Bill Oddie. Unfortunately there's nothing in the archives because a lot of kids programmes used to get wiped because of the high cost of videotape back in the '70s.
  14. Totally agree. I saw it before it disappeared and can't say it was the Northern Soul Scene's finest moment.
  15. The obscure Canadian group Chosen Few had a single on Canadian-American in 1967 and originally released the surf-styled song ‘Footsee’ in 1968 in the USA on Roulette. It vanished without trace, but then at the height of the Britain’s northern soul craze, it reappeared when entrepreneur Simon Soussan discovered that its instrumental b-side, when sped up, made a wonderful northern soul record and he pressed some copies under the cover-up name the Sounds Of Soul. Dave McAleer’s Disco Demand label picked up the rights to the track, added sounds from the 1966 FA Cup Final and the sound of a steam hammer and sped it up to match Soussan’s version. Island Records insisted the act’s name be changed (as they represented reggae group the Chosen Few) and McAleer added the prefix Wigan’s as a tribute to the area where the record was already hitting. It shot into the UK Top 10 and exuberant northern soul dancing (a fore-runner of breakdancing) was seen for the first time nationwide when a group of selected club-goers danced to it on BBC television’s Top Of The Pops. Roulette knew nothing about the group or how to tell them of their success. Since they had recorded no more tracks for them a follow-up was never released.
  16. Something's Wrong - Chris Clark Show Me The Way - Martha Reeves Whole Lot of Shakin' In My Heart - Smokey Can't Stop Looking For My Baby - Fantastic Four
  17. It's a case of "Footseeee.......Noooooo!"
  18. Like the OP, Angela from Push Entertainment has sorted out the download problem for me. I suspect she'll be kept busy over the next few days.
  19. The good news is that Larry was released from hospital early this morning and is reported to be in good spirits.
  20. Just double checked mine and the labels are all on the right side. I can remember major issues with Volume 1, where many of the box sets had a missing single and two copies of one of the other singles. I do have an extra copy of the David Ruffin / Barbara Acklin as a result. Also, the pressing quality wasn't good in many cases.
