  1. Steve, I have just been looking back over this thread as I noticed someone is selling them on eBay for over £100, plus £34 shipping from Australia. I'm glad you finally got a boxset, as it looked unlikely at one stage. Incidentally, the Aussie seller describes the boxsets as numbered and part of the limited run of 2000, although the photos don't show a number on the back of the box. I know this "limited edition" suddenly became less exclusive when Universal decided to extend the run, presumably to meet higher than expected demand, and the extra boxsets weren't numbered.
  2. Definitely heard Fats Domino played in the main room circa '79, but between 5 and 6am. I was looking through some record boxes at the time. Funny what you remember.
  3. Bit of a mixed bag.... Thank You Baby For Loving Me - Soul Brothers Six Love Slipped Through My Fingers - Ohio Players Wake Up And Be Somebody - Brainstorm Captain Of My Ship - Seventh Wonder You Got It - Gene Burks
  4. Over the coming months I'll be playing most of my vinyl at home, as I've just taken delivery of a Sony PS-HX500 turntable. It has a built in analogue to digital converter and allows you to record wav or high definition audio files to your computer via USB. Introduced last year at £450, Sony have just knocked £150 off, and I got a further £30 off at Peter Tyson. Gave it a trial run yesterday, and not only does it sound good, the software is easy to use. https://petertyson.co.uk/index.php/sony-ps-hx500-turntable.html
  5. Sad news indeed. Hopefully the BBC and Tony Blackburn will pay him a fitting tribute on this Saturdays show.

  8. The track used is a Dean Parrish collaboration with drummer Carmine Appice.
  9. Just caught it on TV. Part of your 3 before 8.

  11. We were based in San Clemente for a week before driving back to Vegas. The Pacific Surfliner used to pass by our digs a couple of times a day....
  12. A lot of the outdoor lots are probably still the same. They just get rehashed. I recognised the church used in the closing scene of Cool Hand Luke, but it's been used in countless other films and TV series. Had a look around the sound stage they use for Big Bang Theory, which is set to become their longest running sitcom. They had a whole building full of Batman vehicles from all the films.
  13. It's in the prop department of Warner Brothers Studios in Burbank, LA. I think the set was used in The West Wing and House of Cards. No prizes for guessing where this set featured....
  14. I'm surprised George had time to record the song with all his other wheeling and dealing, unless he turned to the scheming after a failed recording career.
  15. Reading this article is more fascinating than the girl in the song title.... https://articles.chicagotribune.com/1987-08-02/news/8702260208_1_motel-room-alberta-easter-family-members
  16. Putting my feet up after signing a few executive orders....
  17. You could argue that the whole Northern Soul scene isn't particularly productive. Most of the records played were produced before the term was even invented. Too many collectors chasing too few records. Too many venues chasing too few punters. Too many DJ's chasing too few gigs. Plenty of tat being produced to fuel a specific market, along with a steady stream of bootlegs.
  18. I don't think "nest" is the correct collective noun for a gathering of divs.
  19. Don't know if it's crossed anybody's mind, but the OP could be colour blind and has done a grayscale scan of the record.
  20. I just watched a video of one of the "nurses" paddling someone's arse. She qualifies for the free eats, so I'd say yes...
  21. Apparently you get spanked if you don't eat all your dinner, and I can't imagine the portions being small.
  22. Gave this place a miss when looking for somewhere to eat.... The waitresses were dressed as nurses, and there was an intravenous drip beside each table. There was an industrial set of weighing scales outside.
  23. The Hoover Dam. Nevada on the left bank of the Colorado River, Arizona on the right... 0
  24. I intend to continue supporting the venues I enjoy, but will also continue to express an opinion on this site, thank you.
  25. How long before he knows how to use the record player?
