  1. Sydney's won it, but with a much reduced majority. Jexit means Jexit, so all copies of Jerry Cook will be sold to fund the Russell Winstanley Home for Retired Soulies.
  2. The last time I was down that way on a ship I ran the Swanage half marathon. Probably 84/85.
  3. RFA Argus, it's a Royal Fleet Auxiliary.
  4. I have analysed both tracks, and SB clocks in at 138 bpm, whereas JC is a more sprightly 158 bpm. This explains why Jerry gets the job done in 2 mins 44 whilst Sidney takes almost 3 minutes to get the message across. No surprise to anyone that Jerry's version is the faster of the two. In another test, I found that 9 out of 10 cats preferred the Jerry Cook version.... Cat A - Sidney Barnes.... Cat B - Jerry Cook.....
  5. Enjoyed watching it on catch up, although the Jones boy got a bit carried away when he sang over William Bell in the finale.
  6. The Virgin Balloon after making a safe landing earlier this morning. It can't have travelled far because It's about a quarter of a mile from the usual launch site.....
  7. ........while you sing "Let Me Down Easy".
  8. Lou Rawls "See You When I Git There" would rate as one of my least favourite talking songs.
  9. Plenty with spoken intros such as "Too Late" (already mentioned), "Get Out", "That Beatin' Rhythm", "Under Your Powerful Love" and "Home Is Where The Heart Is" to name a few. How about "Cool Off" where the lead talks all the way through, or "Colour Him Father"?
  10. Ah, the old Tonelock 2 in 1 Echotone Correction Adapter. You'd have thought they would have come up with a better name for it.
  11. Think Steve would have had this version playing on his 8 Track Stereo.....
  12. New box set of Stax singles compiled by Mr Searling, out next week..... https://www.udiscovermusic.com/new-releases/stax-7s-vinyl-box-joins-labels-anniversary-celebrations/
  13. After the Sidney Barnes vs Jerry Cook poll, we could have a 3 way contest with Bob Meyer, Dee Irwin and Chuck Jackson.
  14. Responsible for one of my all time favourite dance tracks, Eddie Harrison being interviewed for George Klein's Memphis Sounds....

  15. Jerry Cook, much more raw and urgent, he makes the message much more believable. Sidney's vocal is a lot more polished, but doesn't suit the song as much. P.S. I've never really forgiven Sidney for releasing "Standing On Solid Ground".
  16. Come To Me Softly.
  17. Add Green Onions and Sliced Tomatoes to the playlist, Baz.
  18. No, it's upside down on my tablet. If I quickly turn my tablet upside down, I get it the right way up until the gyro kicks in and it flips.
  19. Only Tomangoes and Terry Callier would get me out of my seat these days.
  20. Jimmy Tarbuck? How many pints have you had?
  21. I know they were showing it at the Tate Modern as part of the Soul of a Nation exhibition..... https://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/tate-modern/exhibition/soul-nation-art-age-black-power
  22. I do know I'm a soft touch with her Steve. I looked after her shop on Monday and Tuesday while she went out gallivanting. That photo was taken for the Evening News and Star, the Carlisle local rag, and they cropped her two mates off and put Kathryn on the front page with the headline "Here Come The Girls".
  23. A change from the usual flora and fauna, here's my daughter (on the left) and some of her friends at Carlisle Races Ladies Day....
  24. Here's a previous topic about the song you might find interesting...... https://www.soul-source.co.uk/forums/topic/304085-lisa-stansfield/?do=findComment&comment=2032791
