  17. Hi Kitch - yep one of the harder uns as far as albums go for sure - not sure if they are all off centred... i think the guy in the pressing plant may have popped oot for a wee fag break between the 3 and 4th hour and took his eyes off the prize or at least my copy.... tfk
  18. A great shout on this super duper gem... Hey the album is worth more than a shout toooo a gem with not a dud track on it just brilliant]!! Only snag is the vinyl press is slightly off centre which slightly distorts the sound quality-not sure if all the runs are the same but dont let that make you take your eye off the prize so if you see it just get i! and right on right on with Bobby Jones and "Talkin bout Jones" ktf tfk
  19. hi Daved Yep that aint to bad 7 years??? Hey if you can wait just a wee while longer for some more info on OS or at least until Richard Searlings book is published sometime during 2013 - Otis Smith is infact one of the artists featured in Richards forthcoming book : " Can I have look through your records, mate?" which details Richards life of collecting and playing soul music. a quick snippet from an exchange with RS Andy Otis smith was not the same guy who, worked at abc and then bev glen as an executive. As Jordan states, he was in the group, the Albert, discovered by dean at Parkers, an lp track made quite big by him actually. For those interested, Otis is one of the artists featured in my forthcoming book : " can I have look through your records, mate?" Which details my life collecting and playing soul. The book should be out before the end of 2013. Please feel free to share this information with the brothers and sisters on Ss if you wish? Kind regards Richard Canna wait!! ktf tfk

  23. Standby for this months latest hot 45 release by those guys at Soul Junction Records ....currently one of the most talked about previously unissued dancers by one of Soul musics true veterans and hot on the heels of SJs Fairplay goodie..... we have Mr Oliver Cheatham with this truly awesome 70s dancer!!!! Just check it out :- Dont pop the question [if you cant take the answer] /bw Sweet soul goodie " Good guys dont make good lovers"Have a listen to the sound file at the bottom of the page!!! Don't Pop The Question (If You Can't Take The Answer)/ Good Guys Don't Make Good Lovers"Â Soul Junction 518 Press Release: Oliver Cheatham "Don't Pop The Question (If You Can't Take The Answer)/ Good Guys Don't Make Good Lovers"Â Soul Junction 518 Release Date: Monday October 15th 2012 Oliver Cheatham will forever be remembered for his timeless 1983 R & B hit "Get Down Saturday Night"Â on MCA records, which he co-wrote with fellow Detroit musician Kevin McCord. But Oliver's career began way back in the mid 1960's when his future brother in law Allen Cocker invited Oliver to join his group The Young Sirs. The Young Sirs eventually joined Ernest and Barbara Burt's Magic City label where they recorded the mellifluous "There's Something The Matter (With Your Heart)"Â with Oliver now being regarded as the groups lead singer. Into the 70's the Young Sirs became The Gaslight who recorded several excellent 45's for Marvin Higgins' Grand Junction label. With their "Just Because Of You/It's Just Like Magic"Â later being picked up for national distribution by Polydor Records. Under the guidance of influential Detroit radio DJ and record producer Al Perkins, Oliver firstly became the lead singer of the group Sins Of Satin later re-named Roundtrip and then following a further re-naming just becoming known as Oliver. Following on from "Get Down Saturday Night"Â Oliver continued to score chart success with "SOS"Â, "Celebrate Our Love"Â followed by two duets with Jocelyn Brown "Turn Out The Lights"Â and "Mind Buster"Â. Further chart success came in 2003 when Oliver featured as a guest vocalist on Room 5's UK No1 hit "Make Luv"Â which incidentally sampled Oliver's "Get Down Saturday Night"Â. Oliver at this juncture was residing in England and had previously recorded a garage version of the old standard "Our Day Will Come"Â with the London based band, Native Soul. And so to the present, 2012 will see Oliver return to the fore with the eventual discovery of two great previously unissued 70's soul tracks found on a once lost and forgotten acetate. The A-side is the joyous dance track "Don't Pop The Question (If You Can't Take The Answer)"Â which once heard leaves the song's unforgettable hook line firmly in your head. While the B-side is the beautiful sweet soul ballad "Good Guys Don't Make Good Lovers"Â which showcases Oliver's falsetto vocals and is so reminiscent of his earlier 1970's Grand Junction and Polydor releases. 2012 will also see Oliver return on a vanity project of his own with the forthcoming "Enjoy"Â cd album.
