  1. Was awesome to have E J Rush aka the great Paul Sindab perform both these sides live in 2014, along with the likes of You dropped your candy in the sand **, I'm uptight, I was a fool and the rest of his absolutely sterling catalogue, have noticed that the people slagging these tracks off, along with anything else uptempo that wasn't "known" until fairly recently, are always universally on the geriatric side of the membership here, which is a shame as Paul himself is over 70 and is still rightly proud of them both, so glad both his mind and good taste have stayed sharper than yours. He has yet more great recordings under different names that UK collectors haven't yet realized is actually him, includes some very nice beat ballads too so don't be too scared they're probably slow enough even for you dear old folks. ** sorry, it's fast and a "rock and roll beat" too so clearly can't be Northern.
  2. Miss Stallings is not at all tough to find over here Stateside, nice mover mind you, the rare one on the label is a garage 45 not soul.
  3. An LA friend was trying for yonks to unload one of these, can ask him if it ever shifted next time touch base.
  4. Carl Underwood on Merging is too short at 1.52 but play it back to back w Garlon Davis w/ the same backing track and get a propa length song (Viz Top Tip)
  5. Have the same backing track used by 2 other artists too, another Mel Alexander winner
  6. Pretty much every soul 45 seller at shows over here has it in their boxes and they never seem to shift as they're all trying to get $75-$100 still, nice little record but over-priced given the quantity around.
  7. Half my playlist is garage soul at times but don't expect to see many of those here either! Mind you, just clocked JM listing the Nocturnals on Embassy for uk200 so maybe there's a move that way after all, personally like the current divide, means can keep picking all these sounds up way cheaper eh eh.
  8. There aren't many great soul singers that Dig Deeper have had on stage more than once but Willie is absolutely one of them for more than good reason, a great performer, a superb voice and a beautiful person, there's none finer so super excited to see this release by the very fine folks at Timmion
  9. Have one of these but sure didn't expect to see it ever listed in any way on this site!
  10. May have it as another backing track too Flynny, Preview would be a ridiculous label to run huh
  11. From the sublime to the.... "Piggybacking" here haha but any ideas on value for his "Do the Pig" on Preview, ludicrous lyrics for a dance craze record but gets in your head, not seen this around much at all
  12. Anyone seen one of these before - Larry Trider on Canadian Coral, recent pickup in Montreal
  13. Clean copy just changed hands Stateside for a very reasonable sum
  14. He had lovely writing but crap spelling, that first i in Epitome was clearly added in afterwards!
  15. I was 2nd bidder on it, going back a few years now and didn't grab a copy of the soundfiles on all the acetate auctions (duh) but yes very different
  16. Should be less, there's tons over here even though dealers are trying to keep the price up, much prefer her other on the label, gritty as hell, her Stigers outing is ok too, you know the story of the acetates of hers found in a skip outside her home after she died incl a version of William Powell.....
  17. Nice to see #9 in that Top 10 as headlining our Dig Deeper New Years Eve show this year is none other than the lovely Jo Armstead herself, come to NYC and start off 2015 in style
  18. Your latest Dore comp is totally appreciated on this side of the water Ady, the June Jackson in particular is off the scale great. And for anyone lucky enough to be over here in NYC this weekend Honky and I combined will be playing a stack of never before heard one-off soul acetates over the course of Saturday night's Dig Deeper, still plenty out there to discover.
  19. "Nobody knows" it huh Pete, have one of these, really nice little record, hope you get a good home for it
  20. Fun game if you're bored this weekend, if some chancer at your local do drops Cecil Washington make sure you ask him to play the other side and watch the reaction #worthlessonesidedbootlegplayingasshole
  21. Same on this side of the water, 3 separate snapped 45s in the last few weeks alone, Postie still slips a card in every year come December asking for a Xmas bonus....
  22. Another label from Rocky Mount? Funny it's a tiny place in the boondocks but was also home to Goldleaf records - just 2 soul releases but one was the great Chuck Wells outing, let's hear it for rural North Carolina!
  23. There's been 3 copies spun in NYC for 15+ years, and actually holding a 1968 photo of Tommy right now, we've spoken to him and tried to convey how highly we regard all his work, he's amazingly interlinked to many artists we've worked with over the years and a classic example of the countless unsung greats of 60's soul recording.
  24. Have a few of Mad Mike's old 45s - actual ones, not acetates/boots - with the label scratched right out and his name etched on, normally would be a bit of an arse having a label messed up anything like that but make a big exception knowing it's the actual copy he'd have spun out, pride of place of those goes to his old 45 of the beyond off the hook Willie Smith "My soul baby" on Royal, to this day only know of 1 other copy (take a bow Mr Finewine) so shows what an amazing digger MM was decades before most of us
