  5. Maybe there some mis-undersatnding. I will release the demo version, not Grey Imprint. The demo version, was done by the writers, who were not involved in Grey Imprint, they just shopped the song onto the band. The demo I have put up here was recorded a year or so before the group, so roughly 1968. So no one in the group will get anything for the release, but the writers will, as they are who I am licencing the track from. Cheers Dave
  6. As always with these things, now that it's been done thought of a whole bunch more, maybe do another one or two later.
  7. Cheers George for all the info, all adds to the overall story of the recording. I was told that most of the masters from the Clearhill stuff are now with a guy in N.Y. ?
  8. The writers are black and the lyrics are very 70's black consciousness ('I remember the time when the back of the bus was reserved for us'). So a little strange that a white band recorded it, but as all say, both are great recordings.
  9. A few years ago I tracked down the writers for Grey Imprints ' Do you get the message'. The group were a show band from Ohio, that pick up the track from the writers and recorded it on Clearhill records. Last year I met up with the two writers and they told me that they had recorded a demo for it themselves and had originally intended to release this, but after they did the deal with Grey Imprint, this was shelved. To my joy, two weeks ago I was sent the original demo recording and the guys have agreed for me to release it, early next year. They have also given me another un-released track for the flip side which is a stunning midtempo crossover track.
  10. Hi Mark That really was where the magic of the club lay, it's diversity. Plus it was a proper venue, not s village hall somewhere
  11. Hi Chalky Just looked again and The Memphians, should be 'South Memphis' not 'Breakdown', which did you put in the pod cast ??
  12. If that is Tim, then someone cut his legs off, cuz he's way taller than Butch, Guy with the glasses is it a very young Bernie Golding ???
  13. Here's a few nice things from it, but there really are so many good tracks on there, specialy on the last two discs
  14. had a couple for sale in the last 5 years both sold quick at around £300
  15. Nothing wrong with this seller, highly respected, sometimes a little high on prices, but always good service. Maybe what you mean is he was more than you wanted to pay.
  16. Here's my bit to the story. I just got a few things from a guy on Ebay, one was a white test pressing of The Thornton Sisters and a blank acetate, that plays 'Got no time'. The guy was a house clearance guy on the east coast, I ask him where they came from, he said he had got 2 boxes of records out of a house he cleared. He knew nothing about who had lived there, after posting the first lot on ebay, he says he sold the rest on to someone local. In conversation with him, sounded genuinely like someone that new little about music. The Thornton Sisters, he listed wrongly for the b side and got the title completely wrong, he also had a few other acetates, but those didn't sound that interesting when he played them down the phone, but all were soul/R&B. To be honest the 'Got no time' I could hardly hear, as he was playing it off one of those kid turntables, just sounded like a thumper, so I took a chance. The acetate, is blank, no info, nothing. It's in an Audiodisc sleeve, a liitle worn and looks aged, with some scratches. can't tell you anymore. I've collected acetates for years and it looks right and I'm happy with it. Cheers Dave
  17. As always a big thanks for your assistance with the show Jerry. I feel fine, it's the others that I think still feel a bit shabby, they all went for it, including Leon, who arrived after the Riverside.
  18. Hi John There is a difference in the run out info long version has P-010, Quarter turn 551 (A SIDE), P-011, Quarter turn, something I can't read (B SIDE) Short version has P-010, Quarter turn Linx (A SIDE), P-011, Quarter turn Linx (B SIDE)
  19. Hi Nick Lotsa questions there, so lets see... Gospel Funtion is a C/U, it's a very rare 45 outta the deep south. Got all the Double O's recordings think their a very talented group for such a small output. Always struggled to find people in Cleveland, it's not got the same tight music community as many other cities. Thanks for all the kind words Dave
