  1. Vernon Steve Weakley - Is it love or is it lust - V.S.W. £25 +P&P (Stone Mint) This one worth a little more. Multi talented man, writer (music & Literature), producer, singer and Activist. Vernon first came to prominence as an activist in the student movement on the campus of Jackson State University. He then turned his hand to writing and producing music, working with local band Freedom on the famed track 'High on you', as well as recording tracks under his own name and forming a publishing company with his friend Jesse Thompson. With this success he moved on to produce for Stax. Today Vernon is a highly respected author and has had a best selling non-fictional book, “STANDING AT THE EDGE OF MADNESS." The track on offer today, is the stunning crossover track from his days in 70's Jackson, Ms. Gentle spoken intro, easing into sweet vocals, backed by pretty horn stabs. Understated drums are mixed with hammond to create a slice of midtempo soul magic !!!!!, Every home should have a copy................ https://youtu.be/RU5f1_EF4QQ Rickey Andrews - The next time - RWA £60 +P&P (Stone Mint) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2. Gloucester to Wigan, varied and anything from 5 hours to 24 hours. Would catch the bus into Gloucester midday and go to the pub in the market to see if there was a lift going, if so, sorted. If not then hitch it out to the M5, lifts from there could take you one exit or many, but always tried to get to get to Frankley services just south of Birmingham, here would often hook up with Angie & Heather from Redditch and travel the rest of the way with them. Every other week, the bloke that drove the Wagon Wheels truck would pull in there and give anyone looking for a lift, one all the way up to the Wigan exit. Next option en-route would be to get dropped off at Hilton Park, if you weren't to late and catch a lift on the Wolverhampton coach, if not out with the thumb again and onwards. Any of the service stations on the way up, were possible stops to look for lifts, tried not to get dropped off at exits, as you could be stuck there for hours. Always aimed for Knutsford service as most of the cars going to Wigan from the south would pull in there. But down side was everyone else hitching had the same idea, there could be as many 10-15 on the exit trying to get a lift and you needed to find someone going on up the M6, not off into Manchester or the M62. When it was very busy there, trick was to watch cars arriving with just two people in and catch em just as they arrived and ask for a lift, so to get ahead of everyone else. After that fairly plain sailing into Wigan, but if you got dropped off at the exit, it was still a bloody long walk into town and the Casino. But in the main, if you started at the M5 junction by at least 3pm you could get to Wigan before midnight. The return was a whole other thing, don't know why, but that often took the whole of sunday, once I got home on monday morning with the milkman. Got washed and changed and straight to work.

  9. Yep Pete, that's exactly how I see it. They are just UK copies of American releases, rare maybe, but only that. I know there are people that go crazy for UK stuff. But when it comes to U.S. soul music, rather have a U.S. copy every time, weather it's rare or not. Now if it didn't come out in the U.S. but only in the U.K., Germany, Spain etc, then I do value it, as it's the only way to get the tune. But I know I'm strange as I collect pieces of music, not bit of plastic, each to his own.
  10. Sorry am I missing something. I thought this was just a rare British issue of a not so rare Detroit record, that first came out on GM in Detroit. Great record, but just a UK issue of a U.S. record.
  11. Think it's a mixture of two things. One is it's a changing world and lot's of people now post on events pages on Facebook or comment there after events instead of here. Also when they re-arranged the site here to prevent people constantly bumping their events, but saying nothing (which I think was a good thing), it had the reverse effect of making it less immediate, harder to see what was really being talked about, i.e. hot events, so people simply migrated somewhere else. The way it is now arrange, means that events that are maybe 6 months away, but maybe one where lots of people will go, say more than 500+ and need lots of discussion, ie accomodation, latest update, artists added, have become almost invisible. Look how little visibility,.events like Soul Essence, Skegness, Bamberg, Hamburg, Movin' On or even Prestatyn have here on a daily basis, yet on Facebook they are getting 10's of posts a day, people migrate to where things are easiest to use.

  15. Not sure who owned the publishing on Margaret's track, But all Popcorn's other material was either, jointly with Ollie McLaughlin's publishing company or his own, which the family now hold the paper work on, although there is some dispute over this due to a deal he did, just before he died, and I haven't heard from the family for somewhile.

  21. OK I understand. But any agreement signed by Isaac Banks to release the record is worthless, for all the reasons I stated before. Unless the agreement was between a representative of the publishing company or Little Archie's family, then I'm afraid it's not a legal re-issue.
