  4. In a conversation with Josie Jo Armstead a few years ago, she told me she had a tape with an instrumental version of 'Stick by me baby'. But she couldn't remember if it was just the track or a fully instrumented alt version, now that would be something I'd love to hear. PS She also said it was one of the worst tracks she had ever recorded, took forever to get the group to sing it the way she wanted it to sound.
  5. I'm not doubting the authenticity, but to bid it would have been nice to know where it came from, a house clearance, found in a record store, from a musician, publisher etc. I collect acetates, love them, but in all cases if I haven't got them direct from someone involved with the record, I need a pretty detailed background on the disc. I have a fair few blank acetates, but again I know the story on each.
  6. Which I thought was low, but with no info from the seller, I couldn't justify bidding on it.
  7. I ask for more info on the authenticity of the other Johnny Handley acetate. I got no reply, so didn't bid.
  8. OK important correction. Herman did about 30 signs for the shop, but the record boxes were all done by Anibal Gonzales.
  9. OK, one more. The guitarist with The Black Conspirators (Lelon Windham), who did the funk bomb 'Got to be Free' & sweet soul stunner 'Love' on Get Down, went on to join Aquarian Dream and played on 'Phoenix'. Bit deep for some, but a nice bit of trivia. '
  10. Last one 4 2day Herman Weems (Detroit song writer for Ric Tic, Motown etc) was also an artists, he did some of the artwork for Parliament's album sleeves and stage back drops. Later in life when Brad opened his first shop, Herman came round and asked if he sweep up at the shop, just so he could hang out with people that loved Detroit music. He then offered to make the sign that used to sit on the street outside the shop. Then he went on to decorate the record boxes that still, to this day, adorn Brad's shop
  11. a couple more...... Clay McMurray, married to Karen Pree, daughter was with Brownstone, Spider Turner is a cousin. Na Allen was married to Vee Allen, Na is Denise LaSalle's brother. Could do another thread 'Family Connections'

  13. No, but they are there if you go round their houses
  14. Totally agree Steve, but I was thinking about the three clubs as relative contemporaries of each other
  15. I don't think we should get all bent out of shape over who played what first. Stafford, Morecombe & 100 club all played their part in moving things up, down and sideways, sortta...............
  16. Also he is quoting USPS Priority Mail International price. There are other options, which I'm sure he'd use if you asked. You can still ship for about half that from the states.
  17. I'm sorry I haven't read every post. But Odell Bailey, lived in Detroit, but had business interests in Phittsburgh, and he had a whole bunch of artists over there that he wanted to record. As for Telldell music, this was Dennis Tally's & Odell Bailey's publishing venture, that was used on many of the DT label recordings, so would have a Detroit address. Both Dennis and Odell are now passed. Dennis died in fairly diminished financial state, after his death his house was ransacked and the masters all went missing or got burnt when the house was torched. Odell family still live in Detroit, but can't find any of his masters and it's a mystery where every thing went. PS it could be that Odell's business interest in Phittsburgh was the Mortuary and so why not use that address. I can ask the family next time I'm there. Dave
