  3. Eugene Davis, lived in Detroit, he is survived by two sons and Angela. He worked closely with engineer Bob Dennis who after leaving Motown worked at Bumpshop/GM studio, now called The Disc on East Nine Mile. I believe some if not all were recorded there. But also there was possibily a connection with Macon, Georgia, as they recorded a number of artists from there, Nancy Butts & Arthur Ponder. Most of the 45's on Crow that I have found over the years have been found in Detroit, Where as Flaming Arrow you find all over the place, as much of it was distributed by Atlantic

  5. ---------------------------- Idris Muhammad, R.I.P. ---------------------- Idris Muhammad, whose drumming crossed over several musical styles including funk, jazz, and rhythm and blues, died Tuesday (July 29). He was 74. Muhammad's death was confirmed by close friend Dan Williams, who got to know Muhammad through Williams' Jazz Journey concert series sponsored by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation. Williams learned of Muhammad's death through family members in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. A converted Muslim, Muhammad was immediately buried in accordance with the traditions of Islam, Williams said. His cause of death has not yet been confirmed, but Williams and other friends noted that Muhammad had been receiving dialysis treatment in New Orleans – where he had returned from New York City to retire back in 2011. 8. To busy writing nonsense on here Jock
  9. PPS, people keep commenting that they are not trying to re-write history. But if you refuse the evidence, continue to promote a ill informed second hand version of what really happened, then yes you are. Oh almost forgot Chis King's Hinkley 1000+
  10. PS yes the 70's were the heyday, but the 80's a 'Dead Zone, Dark Ages' get out of here. Regularly we had coaches from around the country, the London train would often have 100 bods on it. Don't listen to second hand commentary, ask the people that that lived and enjoyed the 80's. I live and enjoyed the 70's, 80's and beyond, it's all good, but all slightly different
  11. This view that venues in the 80's weren't busy isn't true. I can remember Morecambe regularly getting 700+, Leicester (Oddfellows) 300+, Stafford 500+, 100 Club 200+, Warrington Parr Hall 400+, Bradford heaving you couldn't move. People that weren't there keep on wanting to promote this. Had a fab time then in busy venues, true over that 10 years some did wax and wain a bit, but so did Wigan in the 70's 'If you tell a lie enough times, people think it's the truth' A few Stafford pictures I posted elsewhere that would challenge that common perception, two of the nights pictured are without live acts and had over 1000 in.
  12. You lot still going at this, well done !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. All in all I thought it good. You always wish for more than these things ever deliver, but fairly enjoyable and not cringe worthy. They didn't entitle it 'A full and detailed history of Northern soul' So what we got was a number of snap shots and others trying to explain it's cultural context and Pete Waterman coming from the more musically technical side, which for me was fine. I loved the fact that Colin spoke with so much honesty, displaying the excitement of arriving at The Torch as a punter and not trying to push what ever agenda currently consumes some of the others on there. My hero, but he knows that already. As for Stafford, it's place in history is just fine and the peeps that do know about it are the ones that went and in terms of that venue, they are the ones I care about, because they made it what it was. As for some young kid of 18 knowing about it, if they really get interested in rare soul, they'll go to the trouble of finding out.
