  2. Thanks Mate Yes it looks like it's time to do just that. Must be the heat, I feel like an 'angry old man' today. Before I get a whole bunch of replies, I know I've alwas been a moody old soul
  3. Hi All In a weak moment this morning I agreed to join the above. Since then I have had email after email about complete shit. I have tried to de-register and it won't let me. Who is behind this, it's just blocking up my in box with useless junk. Anyone else got the same problem So the morale to this tale is stick to Soul Source and Soul Talk, run by intelligent people Dave
  4. Thanks James Do you know any values ? Do like the crossover/modern flip side, does the funky northern side get played much
  5. The record Neil Jones was talking about was King Earnest "You Gonna Miss Me" on the Sonic label, The LK copy I have has a Chicago address
  6. Hi All I must start by saying that I feel for Neil Jones, reading his posting about a stolen record, happen to me a few time when DJing at Yate and Stafford and it's heart breaking. But seeing the record he had stolen and looking at a record sitting by my turn table, same title, same name reversed. I have Earnest King, You gonna miss me/I can't turn it a loose, LK records So is it the same, what the values of the two etc... Dave
  7. "The Dying Fly" was always a favorite for some of us in Gloucester, when a nite was going a bit slow, down on the floor, on your back and do "The Dying fly". We manage to piss people off everywhere with that one. Stolen from Tiswas, major saturday morning TV back in the day.
  8. Alway the deep thinker Ken
  9. Sorry, Clearly I'm not reading the site enough. So made up ones then
  10. Hi All I was sitting with my family in Rimini and someone played "The Duck". What a silly song, Roxanne said, so we went into a coversation about songs named after dance styles. But as I am getting old, I got stuck at about 10. So let be having you, titles please and here a few to get us started, plus a few I made up. Philly Dog Philly Dawg Penguine Shootgun & The Duck Philly Philly Freeze Monkey Bird Pony Horse Just realized that most came out of Philly or the east coast, but I'm sure you know better Made up ones............ The Mess (A Stafford special) Preston Cyborman (A style developed by Gazz Kellet) The Clench (For those dancing with piles, never a good one) Dave
  11. Hi All The Land of Hits version was the first, the version on Lasso is a later remix of the tune and I feel, weaker. Is it better than Bobby Cutchins ? I had both and liked to play Jesse as I felt the vocals were to die for and the strings my richer in the production. But you need to play them side by side to see what I mean. But in the end, it's just a good tune and you pays you're money and takes your choice. Just had 5 fab days at the Rimini weekender Dave
  12. Hi All Another major site update completed. Also we have been hard at work on the site, increasing it's speed and layout. Each section has a wide range of new arrivals. For example, soul collectors go to the Soul Factory section of the site and there you can find all the stock listed by type, Northen, Funk, Modern, Boogie etc or have a look at new arrivals for the more regular visitor. Plus you can just use the search function for a specific artist name. Anyway, below is a small selection of new arrivals. 15. Here's a thought, give everyone 90mins. Trust me the bad DJ's will soon be found out, it then comes down to 100% ability. What I mean by that is; a strong enough box of records that will last that long and the ability to react to the floor, keep people happy and suprise them. It then isn't about big check books, playing the same records as everyone else, but talent and inventiveness. How do young DJ's then come through. Start off at smaller local do's, or again maybe a different approach; how about some older DJ's acting as mentors, let them work with you in your sets. Happen to me many years ago in my local area. Even used to do it at the very early Yate niters. Bob Mean would let me spin for a while in his set. Che my son has show some interest, so he tries a bit of mixing at home with me, is starting to get a fel for records he like, and has even mixed in a few records with me at a few events, he's doesn't want to be a super star tomorrow, he just thinks it's fun.
  16. Tell me about it, you really need 90mins. The trouble is many promoters have promised so many mates a set or people who put them on somewhere else it gets silly.
  17. Steve, get yourself over to Bamberg, next week, no excuses Dave
  18. Just sent you a PM with it
  19. Email and Sam in the same sentance, now that's a first. I can tell where to send a letter or give you a phone number. But Sam, email, priceless
  20. While your there get one for me as well
  21. Liked it, but the intro, why to they do that. Be more inventive
  22. What was the CD LP called
  23. Hi Got The Admirations our web site www.beatstrecords.com Dave
  24. Found a UK demo of this at a car boot in bristol, last year. Put it up on ebay and struggled to sell it, I think I got £30 for it in the end. Could of got twice that 20 years ago, does that mean everyones taste is improving?????????
  25. I've just put a want for the remix of Johnnie Taylor's "what about my love" by DJ Demitri. Killer garage mix that has lost none of the originals magic. Anyone got any other remixes in the same vain we should all be hearing or looking out for. Sound clips would be great.
