  5. It's always good to hear Sam tell's stories of the 'good old days'. He claims here played a few tunes to welcome Norman when he first arrived in this counrty, Dropped out of the scene during the Elizabethian period, too many oldies getting played, but love all the innovation and newies of the Victorians. The Wise Old Sage of the scene
  6. He must have been appearing as one of The Drifters on the same night, so nipped off to catch the second part of there show. If someone had a video of them on the same night I bet he appears there half way through.
  7. Is the one side US copy or a UK one, whats on the flip ?
  8. First played by Richard Searling at Wigan. It's a 70's funky jazz tune, but very uptempo. Features Herbie Hancock. Only came out as a LP track at first, on 'Magical Sheperd', Warner Brothers. Because of it's sucess in the clubs, it then came out on 12". This now days goes for about £50-£80
  9. I can tell you who three are as I took the photo. Dean, Guy, Butch and Dave(His Imperial Dimness). But don't know who the one in the back is anyone got any ideas
  10. Impossible task, but there is a guy in Japan, that is reconised to have the largest collection. He is the son of some major corporation executive, does nothing but collect, and has been doing it for about 30 years. Also there is a guy in Italy, who I have met, he was buying from John Anderson from almost the day he opened his doors, he buys the odd thing from me, but it is rare I have anything he hasn't already got and now days it is mainly CD's. He comes over every now and then, when I see him he will take a bunch of stuff and then search his data base on a lap top to see if he already has it. He was the one who told me about the Jap collector
  11. Yes, she is her daughter. If you look on the back of any black nasty LP, you will always see that they sight Johnnie Mae as there mentor. As for the Memphis connection Sir Mack Rice has houses in both cities, and works between the two. He also had a couple of labels in Memphis, but can't remember the name off hand. But will try and find them later. As many will know Johnnie died a few years back. She was a dynamic part of the Detroit soul scene, a bit of a card, always ducking and diving to make things happen. Several of her children are involved in the music industry. But none of them have any of her records left, think it was Anderson who cleaned them out years back. All her material is in the hands of a sharp lawyer.Black Nasty, recorded about 4 LP's under that name an several under a couple of other names, but again a bit early to be more focused than that. 12. So thinking of doing something yourself ?
  13. Your all getting me very worried now! Maybe we should give up, before we start. But no harm in trying. Soul music is a passion, so just got to do it. Here's hoping

  16. Gabby story. He was always trying to crack people up. One night on a trip to wigan, he managed to pursuade Rob Lee that his girlfriend was paying too much attention to Gabby. We used to travel up there in a works vans that I used to get for the weekend from the building company that I worked for. Now these would have what ever had come back from site on the friday night. We would take out anything big, but leave in bags of cement, plaster etc, throw blankets over and everyone would pile in. By the next morning Rob was well out of his tree and Gabby had not given up all night with his wind up. Half way back I could hear a major commotion in the back, and rob franticly moving round. I ask Leon whats going on, he tells me that Gabby has now told Rob that she has hidden love notes in the van to him. He went manic, by the time we got to Gloucester he was ripping open the bags of cement and plaster. Everyone piles out, sit by the road pissing themselves. It took us half an hour to get Rob to calm down, he eventually stepped out of the van pink from head to toe, covered in plaster. Gabby by this time had pissed off down the pub. And they say great days!!!!!!!!!
