  3. Hi Pete There are several Karma labels. I sure the Stemmons Express is a Memphis label Dave
  4. Hi Eddie Always interested me, how a Detroit tune found it's way down to Memphis for Stemmons Express to pick up on it. Also have always wanted a local label issue of it, have a Wand copy, but a Karma copy would be nice. Anyone got one, that they would be interested in doing a trade on for the Wand one and cash or records???
  5. Just alittle bump, before I head off for a fun weekend at the Nurnberg Weekender
  6. No, but if you run a data base program that gives you automatic number allocation, you will find down the road that it's so helpful. Hows it all going Pete, bit of a slog to start with but saves so much time long term and you will see good sales from Gemm. But do make sure you stay on top of responding to customer orders, slow response and they suspend your account. I've just spent 4 hours on my data base. Now i'm getting ready for a bit of fun at the Nurnberg Weekender Have fun Dave
  7. Firstly I would never call myself an expert, there is always someone who knows more than you do. But I do, do it for a living and don't make any bones about it. Always tell the people that I'm buying off the same in the US. "I'm here to buy for re-sale", honesty always works best. If I buy from artists, always give them a fair price for the records, as they deserve to get something for their work. As I said I did find some good stuff in shops at low prices, but that wasn't in collectors shop, but old black record stores. Finally, as I said you can find good records in collectors shops, but in most cases you will have to pay a fair market price for them. I also listed some shops worth a look. You know lots of good shops Mossy, why don't you list a few for everyone to go and have a look at. People on this thread have said you won't find anything in shop or there aren't any shops left, I'm saying the opposite, but I am saying it is tough, but always fun. Dave
  8. Was going to say much the same. Get all your stock into some form of data base, excel will do to start. Set it up in a formate that matches the Gemm formate. This makes the whole uploading and updating easy. Takes a while but it is worth it. Also when you do that, making up your own mailing list becomes some much more simple. Dvae
  9. Like Chris I rarely go to shop in the US, unless I find an old black record store. Found a few in the last couple of years, found one in the deep south, still had 10 copies of Linda Jones-Can't live my life, 20 copies of Montclairs-Hung up on your love, 25 count boxes of some modern soul titles, that was a good day. Found another again more down south, were I got multiple copies of things. But they are getting harder and harder to find. Again like Chris lot of stuff comes from contacts. Rarely go to collectors shops, or that many dealers, as most tell me they can get more on ebay, or tell me how much the record is in JM book. But for those people looking to buy for themselves, I would say that some of the collectors shop are worth a visit. Peoples, Bob May's and Record Graveyard in Detroit. Rivers in Memphis. Beverlys in Chicago, but you will have to go through alot of records to find afew. Lastly the collectors store in Toledo, can't remember the name, but they just got a large collection in. None of these sell records for a $1, but you will find some nice stuff at a fair price.
  10. I'd pay £10 just for the soulful flip side, put it that way Dave
  11. Hi Sean JM has the yellow listed for £30.00, Payday 46948 Cream one Payday 19829 Yellow one has a much more 70's feel to it, unlike the very 80's cream labeled recording. Dave

Hi Guys Have two issues of Bernard Walker-I must be falling in love/I need your love-Payday (This sound an earlier recording and is dated 81, yellow label, no address) The Second Bernard Walker-I must be falling in love/Inst-Payday (This sounds more electronic, dosn't have the nice stepper flip, cream label, Address on label 4507 E Ave, Gary, In) I know it's not that rare but anyone know the story. Thanks Dave
  14. I had a great chat with him at the last Cleethorpes, still the same dry humour. Mick used to find some great records, sold me the first copies of Sir Henry Ivy and Ronnie Loveman Stokes, that I played at Stafford. Mary always had a kind word, when things weren't going well. It was good to see them both.
  15. Intro to Jr Walker I ain't going nowhere Intro to Edwin Starr, Stay with me Jr Walker, Walk in the night Al Wilson, Help me Archie Bell, Where will you go when the party's over And as Pete Smith said Del Larks, Job opening pt2
  16. This story has a how at the end of it. About 10 years ago I was staying with some friends at their farm in Irish Hills, Michigan. This is about 100 miles from Detroit. One morning I thought I take a walk and truddled round some of the small dirt lanes near the farm. After about half an hour I came upon a clearling in some woods. In the clearing is a pile of household rubbish, black bin liners paper spread every where, old toys etc. So started to rummage round and see a 25 count of records, P Funk All Stars on Hump records, then a bunch of casettes with things like german tour written on them. Lastly, a 8 inch hand made medallion, with George Clinton's cartoon face on one side, Paliament logo on the other. I take these things with me back to the farm and show them to my hosts. They take one look and say, 'those must have belonged to George, he used to have the Farm up the road until last year, when he lost it in a legal battle with his manager. In fact I've seen him wearing that on stage, he used to drop by and give us tickets to his gigs', pointing to the medallion.
