  12. Above comment mine not Malayka's. 2 People one computer!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. Have to agree with those already commenting on Gethro, just stunning to watch. But back in the mid-70's you would have whole dance floors full of spinners, drop kicks, back drops, frount drops. Gloucester had some good spinners, Steve Smith and Martin Fellows. But when Steve got it wrong look out, could take out a whole table next to the dance floor. But the true artists of the dance floor would have be Rob & Dennis Lee, they could do just about anything and most spectacular would be when they danced side by side. It just took a little nod from one of them, and they would be off in the air in unison, kick, back drop, frount drop and finish with a spin.

  18. Hi Andy Like you John Anderson was a great supporter of mine, but this came later when I was running Stafford. He was the powerhouse behind the events success finding so many records for the likes of myself, Ady Pountain, Pat Brady, Sam, Robin, Adam and others. Great man!!!!! Also in my last post I missed out the name of Colin Curtis, DJ hero, has given me lots of encouragement over the years, and played some stunning music, to this very day!!!!!!
  19. Hi All As christmas is coming, thought it would be a good time to give props to those people that were your first DJing hero's and those people that were your mentors when your were a young div on the scene. I remember that when I first went to allniters it was a bit scary, didn't know anyone, everything was very new. I came from a small town where very few other people went to northern soul events. But early one on I met the Gloucester crowd and a couple of people took me under thier wing. They were the one's that didn't mind me asking lots of silly questions and always came over to ask if I was OK, introduced me to others. In the Gloucester crowd there was a real nice guy, who always had time for me, even took me up to Wigan hitch hiking on one of my first visits. The late, Gary Griffiths. As for DJ's in the early days one of my biggest influences was Steve Smith, I wouldn't miss a set he played. Steve was the best DJ in Gloucester, always playing lots of new tunes and one of the first DJ's to give Yate that special something. Not long after I got to know Richard Searling and Kojack Harvey well. All three gave me encouragement as a DJ, helped me find new tunes, came along and DJ'd for me at some of the earliest venues I ran. A couple of other name checks have to go out to the late Gabby and Leon Brown who became great mates. So lets be having your stories and name checks at this time of good cheer.

  23. Hi Steve Always wondered, are they from Houston ?. Detroit label, mainly mid west artists ???? Dave
  24. The Ringleaders, first recorded as the 4 Temples. Thier name change must have happen around the time of "Baby what has happen". When I first got two studio discs from John Anderson in about 1982, he told me he had got them in Chicago, from the old manager of the Ringleaders. One disc had "Baby what has happen" on one side and on the other side was an unreleased tune called "Win you over", still gets a full dance floor today. The other disc had the unreleased "All of my life" on. About ten years later Tim Brown found the master tape to "All of my life", credited to The 4 Temples and released the track under that name on a Goldmine CD. Then about five years ago a record dealer on the west coast did the boot of "All of my life", as the Ringleaders on a white demo. Hope that helps with the Ringleaders bit at least. Dave
  25. Interesting thread. I have several discs that have a burn on the intro and I know exactly when this happen, DJing at venues with poor equipment. I have a Technics 1210 at home with a Stanton 505 head. Play some of my fav records day in day out on this with no problem. But then take them out and one play on S*"t turntables and they are damaged. Some house DJ's carry thier own heads with them and change the club ones before djing. Now days I always check the decks and weight settings before I DJ. I feel promoters need to make sure they hire the best equipment they can when running events and not cut costs. The sound should be everything, but sadly that does not always seem to be the case. I've heard SOME promoters say "You dj's are always moaning about equipment", well yes, people pay good money to hear thier fav tunes. So they should get the best possible if they have paid to get in. Also, with the value of many records now days there is nothing worse than coming home with a record devalued by 50% cuz of the equipment you played on the night before.
