  5. They might, but by then it's too late, it's here in print. apostrophe's If my memory serves me right it is Ivy Jo Hunter on vocal. The label is his and i'm sure he said he did the vocals.
  6. I think it's only fair that in the anal's of soul, you go down as the man that re-discovered this little gem
  7. And there's a whole bunch on Gemm cheap as chips, including yours John
  8. Funny, just a year later he was leader of the 60's only posse, but an experience like that would mark anyone
  9. I had a few of the Las Vegas Connection a couple of years ago sold then for about £120 each. But everything from this period seems to be on the move now. Why cuz back then when some of us got them from The Bowl or in the US, people concidered them disco records. Times change and tastes. Many years ago I got 15 copies of Ty Karim-Lightin' up-Romark, couldn't sell them to save my life, too slow, wrong version. Used to give them away to mates who came round the house, Dave Greet still has the one I gave him North By Northeast-Pain of city living, is a great track and will have it's day on the dance floor. It was never pressed in great quantity, it's from Detroit, so watch the price go then
  10. and a few more.......... "Pitty you weren't here last month, it was packed" "How does Manship get those prices" "Quality cheapies" "Monster" "It books at"
  11. If only we could have had stage names like current House/Hip Hop dj's do today Here's a few DJ Stomper Float-on The Wax Bomber 45 Spinner DJ Dusty DJ Won't Mix Shuffle Spinner West Soul
  12. One I've had said to me more than once recently "Didn't you used to be Dave Thorley"
  13. Another one I hear regularly is "Do you even know what Northern Soul is", usually when I'm djing
  14. Common term in the record bar at Stafford was "is it a dancer, Mate" to which Dim Dave(His Imperial Dimness) would leap over grab the record and dance it round on the carpet. Then return it to a startled potential buyer and say "course it is, now do you want to f*"king buy or not". Used to have Guy, Butch and Tim in stitches.
  15. When Yate first started, back in the mid 70's under Kojak's, Inter City Soul Club. There was, what was then called 'Funk room' upstairs. This was more cuz the venue attracted people from all over the south as well as the midlands and alot of the southerners were into early disco/funk like Fatback-Nija walk/Wicky wacky, Earth, Wind and Fire-Saturday night etc. Used to be a great DJ from Bath called Smoky, that did that room.
  16. So, now we have the 'Darkside' and 'The Third Way'. I feel a cult coming on "Fell the force, Luke"
  17. Modern rooms where originally created because '60's only' fans hounded promoters to banish modern from 'The Main Room'. With few exceptions, those that like 'modern' as it is termed, would be happy to have it in one room. As in the main they like all forms of soul music. Have seen and heard many a 'Modern DJ' drop a 60's tune in his set in the 'Modern room', because he likes it and at that moment went with the mood. The crowd on every occassion, loved the inventiveness. The 'Modern crowd' has no problem with 60's soul. Only the reverse
