Hi All Some cracking stuff on the bay this week, including the rare White demo LP 'The Return Of The Marvellettes'. Plus loads of Northern, Funk and Modern 45's Follow link https://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZdave_t_top_dog Plus see 'In Your Box' section for sound clip Butch Williams 'Introducing Butch Williams' Butch, has recently released this nice southern soul set on his own private pressing. Butch was the lead singer of the Heartbreakers, out of Louisville back in the 70's, known to many for their northern dancer 'I've got to face it', on Derby City. This CD marks the end of a five year project for Butch to bring his music to market. This has been a labour of love and completely self financed, Butch has been involved in every step of the process and his efforts have produced a fine southern/blues showcase for his talents. He is passionate about keeping the spirit of Louisville R&B alive and has used many local musicians on this recording. The track of most interest to the European soul fan will be 'Keep on loving me the way that you do', which has a classic southern soul sound, reminicent of 70's Memphis. This is a must buy set that is now available at CD Baby. I also have a few copies for sale at £15 inc packaging, email me if your interested davethorley@aol.com

Read the book recently, it's amazing their still in business. Even by their own account, they have gone from one disaster to another. Met the guys that own it not long ago, real southern laid back outfit, but stunning music.

I'd say that prices in general have reduced about a third over the last 2 years. No suprise, really, the economy has been going through a gradual slow down for a while, more people than ever looking for records in the U.S., so over supply and price reduction. Some very rare records will always achieve a good price, but even these are seeing a reduction in recent auction prices. The record market is not that dis-similar to the stock market, at times it's over heated, then people get nervous and sell or have cash flow problems. If you watch the sales section here, there have been some great stuff for sales of late, with people clearly off loading. Terms like 'need to make space/ cash needed for new record purchase' etc. Some dealers will say that everything is still fantastic, they believe it's in their interest. I'd say the market has had a much needed correction, there are some killer low priced items out there and now is the time to buy. The good value items will get sucked up, fairly soon and the market will pick up again. Sell, sell if you want to, but I say buy, buy

We've had threads about Ian Levine, Richard Searling and many great venues. But to many who's first allniters were Yate or The 100 Club, he was the man. Ian's situation means he doesn't get out much nowadays, but it would be nice for you guys to put up your memories (Top Tunes) and plaudits to the great man. Then at some stage, I'll get him to read it or send it to him. Just thought it would be nice to let him know that many of us miss him. For many years he was one of my closest friends, he staying at my place every weekend that Yate was on and me at his every time we went up the smoke. He gave me loads of encouragement as a young DJ, helped me find tunes and was a alround top bloke. I always think of him as one of the most important dj's the scene has had, particular achievement, as he did not come from the midlands or north of england. So come on lets be having ya.

Information, history and more on the upcoming Yate re-union Yate The Re-Union Saturday 01 December Berkeley It been a few years coming, but finally Dave Thorley has found a venue to put on the first full Yate re-union. To be held on Saturday 1st, Dec. Dave says the venue Berkeley Power Station, Social Club, looks scarily like the old Stars and Strips, Sterling Suite. He has got together a full line up of original dj's, who promise to play authentic sets. With a line of Dave himself, Dave Greet, Ady Pountain, Hippo, Richard Marsh and Tony Ellis the whole spectrum of tunes from the club will be played. From the early days under John Kojak's Inter-City banner, through the Southern Soul Club promotions right up until it closed some 5 years later under the South West Soul Club. The venue is situated on the banks of the river Severn, justs from the original location. Feed back todate has been fantastic so expect a packer, with many old faces venturing out for the first time in years, some making the trip from as far away as Spain. In addition to the mainroom, which holds about 300, there will also be a modern room. This will host the first set in the UK of Russ Vickers, since his return from the U.S. He will be ably supported by the cream of the west including Steve Lloyd, Malayka, also hoping that Meg Wilshire and Mike Ashley will being hitting the decks. Dave asks that everyone brings a soul club membership with them for sign in at the door. Admission for this special event is just £5, contact Dave for more details davethorley@aol.com or visit the www.soulstuff.co.uk A few words on the history of this famous event The venue started in the mid-seventies and ran for more than five years. During this time thousands of people passed through it's doors and for many it was there first allnighter experience. Over these five years it had three different promotors, the late John 'Kojac' Harvey, Dinks and Nick McAvoy and even moved venue with in the town from the Stars and Strips club to the Swimming Baths and back again. The event maintained a loyal following over its time, when many others came and went and now stands as one of the great 70's northern events. Yate also acted as a spring board for many DJ's; being the first regular allnighter bookings for the likes of Ian Clark, Dave Thorley, Ady Pountain and atttracting the big names of the day such as Pep, Soul Sam, Dave Withers and Gary Rushbrook. Those that went liked it because it always played a mix of 60's indemanders, the latest 70's 'Mecca' tracks, along side it's own new discoveries. To this day many still vividly remember certain tracks as 'A Yate Tune'. Flyer see guide Directions Berkeley is between junctions 13 and 14 of the M5. 14 nearest, about 4 miles from junction. Then through the town, taking left hand fork in centre by town hall. Then follow road to end and the Power Station, club last exit of round about, easy. Who remembers whistles, the scurge of many an allnighter and alldayer in the 70's. Mind you had to have the right one , a ref's type, no good having one of those police types Also dark glasses at 70's allnighters very cool , I tried it once but it only lasted half an hour, fell over so many bags and people trying to sleep that I gave it up. And lastly Guy & Keb et'all and the one black glove. Any more for any more
