  4. Hi All Many of you will know Brad and his 'Peoples Records' on Forrest Ave, Detroit. Sadly last night the building his shop was in was gutted by fire. He is carrying on business just round the corner in the basement of his flat. Alot of the stock is under water from the fire, but he still intends carrying on, he doesn't want phone calls as he has his hands full getting things sorted. But messages of support, I'm sure he would like, via a PM from here or his Myspace page. We're all thinking of you Brad Your Buddy Dave

  11. Hi Robin I saw him last year along with Mary, still hasn't lost his dry wit Dave
  12. Why, does he want to write it Tell him to drop me a line davethorley@aol.com
  13. Hi Simon It was young Mick Godfrey that first turned this up, like you he strong armed me to buy it, but only on the understanding that I played it that very night at Stafford. When down a storm from it's very first play. Has never turned up in any great quatity. Great tune
  14. Young Divines-Ain't that sharp-Note
  15. Oh yes, think it was a Guy spin
  16. Sales must be slow in the rarest Elvis-Sun records department if he's lowered him self to deal with soul
  17. Sorry barns come before everything, camped at mum's at the mo and that can't last, bless her. As for........ "If Dave is to write a book on Stafford , it must be warts and all , with no names changed to protect the innocent ....... Malc Burton" Warts and All
  18. And a packet of 5 Woodbine Now those were the days
  19. Your table is already booked PS forgot Lifeline in the earlier post, again people asked for just that, and then fail to fully support it. Get and support what we already have
  20. I agree with Ken, but for different reasons. A fair few R&B tunes out there with Busta Rhymes, Neo etc etc that should get played in modern/contemporary rooms, but don't. But this is just pop hidding behind a R&B facade.
  21. I have nothing but admiration for what people like Kev Roberts and Soul Town Andy do, there is a clear market for what they deliver so well. The problem is that in fact the people that say they want something a little different are the one's that don't go out as much, but sit on here asking for the world, then don't support it when it's delivered. This maybe a little confrontational, but put up or shut up. People are doing what you ask for, the recent Skegness Weekender, The Orwell, Canal Tavern, Monumental, Blackpool Hilton Weekends, Essence, Lifeline and possibly our new venture. Get out and support what you have, 'From small acorns, come large oak trees'.
  22. Not sure your totally correct, the music and the venue were great, but it wasn't what people wanted. Simple people come on here moan that they want something different, but don't support venues when they are then put on with just that approach. Lost a bundle on the venue, not moaning, I'm a big boy. Just don't think people want what they say they want. I'm with Chalky, we have the scene we have cuz people support the venues they do, cuz in the main and this is just human nature "rather the devil you know". "I may not totally like this venue or that, but it's not far and I know what I'm going to get and the people there" But all that said, never been one to give up as you know!!! New allniter next year at the stunning venue we used for the Yate Revival, just sorting out dates with the club now. Malayka and I will be run it in the only way we know how with a eclectic music policy, great dj's, in great facilities. The venue is in the south west, between Gloucester and Bristol, so well away from the north and a long drive for some. But the trip will be more than worth it if you really do want great night out.
  23. Hi All OK in pricipal, yes to a book. Others may think it should be written about their fav venue and they may have a valid point, so go ahead and write it. I'm only really in a position to write about Yate or Stafford. As for Ian's CD idea, been a long time coming, so yes again. Only one has been done before and that just scratched the surface. As for Yate, one of the most underated allniters of the 70's and needs it's time in the lime light, so happy to help with that as well. Bugger busy 2008 and was thinking of taking it easy with just the barns converstion to do. Ian let me have a phone number through a PM.
  24. It was just me thinking out loud, no plans. Like you say, don't think it would work nowdays. Also I don't think you could get enough dj's or people to commit, with everything else going on in their lives. That's somthing your happy to do when you are young, but as you get older it gets harder.
  25. It went Bi-weekly. We decided, that is most of the main DJ's, that to break new tunes you needed repetition so fortnighty was agreed. Yes it did sometimes affect numbers, but helped form it's own sound and loyal following. I think that is one reason why we don't have sounds that we attached to venues so much now days, rather they are know by the DJ's that play them. Interesting question, should there be a regular allniter somewhere ? Butch recently complained to me about how long it took now days for a new tune to really break, he reckons 2-3 years. Back then a record worked or didn't in a few months.
