  1. Good luck, will put a few things for auction next week hopefully Dave
  2. As I said in my mail, everyone is free to do what they want, but do they ever concider the impact of their decisions. On another point, I slighty disagree with you about Berkeley. I know you haven't been yet, but at the last one in addition to Andy and Arthur, Ady play nearly all 60's and a fair few 'newies, as did Maria, Sean and I put a fair number into my set as well. But the whole point of the event is not to have sets completely dominated by any one style. In fact if there was a complaint, it was that there wasn't enough 'oldies', but even with that, one man's oldies is anothers newie. I know you hope to get along soon.
  3. Hi Guys On nearly a weekly basis I hear someone tell me that they are starting a new weekender or thinking of starting one in the UK. How many are planned next year, are we not in danger of overkill. It's a tough call I know and everyone has the right to do what ever they want. But from the point of the greater good, as with local soul nites are we not reaching a point when there are so many that everyone suffers with attendees being spread to thin. Not wanting to say you can't do this or that, as the next new one could be the best one yet to appear. But again when people start something new do they think what will be the impact on other events. I know when we looked at starting Berkeley, we spoke to all the other event promoters locally and tried not to clash with other simular events nationally. Although ours is not a weekender the principal is the same we did think about the events impact. Dave
  4. Also look out for his other nice 70's track 'I ain't going nowhere', cool midtempo modern winner.

  6. Been selling closer to £100, now indemand tune. It's a stunner, altough it's from Cleveland, sound like the very best southern soul. Dave

  8. Hi Rod Your right played a bit at Stafford; Fantastic Shakers-My biggest mystake Debby Dobins-Glad I found you/How you gonna feel. Yes a little poppy, but hasn't so much of whats been played on the northern scene, at the time they sounded fresh and the dance floor liked them. But alot of it is pretty poor and not something that I like wholesale. If you search through it there is some nice stuff. As Rod says big influence on the northern scene, Nomads, Embers, Georgia Prophets, (Much of) Clifford Curry's stuff, etc etc made for the beach scene. Ian Clark for a while went big on it end of Yate/early Stafford, as he was over there a fair bit and he was big buddies with some of the dealers. Dave

  10. If I remember correctly, it was the worlds worst kept secret
  11. B J Thomas-I don't have a mind of my own Was covered up as David Huff by Ian Clark, I remember this well as he covered it up round my house before a Yate allnighter.
  12. No, Richard did know the artist. He told me it was Little Ann when he DJ'd at an allnighter at Burnwood Baths, trouble was I was not completly together and had forgotten within 10mins , when I asked him who was it, he smiled and said you had your chance. Also Ian Clark was given the artist name from John Anderson, but he got the story wrong and thought it was Little Annie Mae (AKA Tina Turner). When Gilly found the second studio disc the secret was out. Gilly told me that the one he has is a slightly different take to the one Richard has.
  13. Good on you Pete. I tend to put up everything at set sale, some you get right, some you get wrong in both directions. Life to short to worry about a few pounds here or there.
  14. When we were at Cleethorpes, he saw a record (can't remember which) in someones box. He sold it 20 years ago for about £10, as it had the label badly torn on the b side. He pulled it out and asked how much, the seller said £500, John flipped it over and it was the same record he had sold all those years ago. He chuntered on about this for the rest of the weekend, bless him A living ledgend and close to an 'A Lister', woops wrong tread!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. Hi Mikey But I think you have hit the nail on the head. People ask for offers as they don't want to under sell and want to get as much as possible and fair play to them. People hate underselling and particularly in public. They sell a record for X, then people tell them they could have got more for it or the flip side is big on the funk scene etc. When I decided to sell records full time John Anderson gave me some good advice, try and price your records to sell, they have no value sitting on the shelf. Fix a price that makes you a profit and once it sells be glad, as it's another one out the door. If it sells the next day for double or treble your price, so what you got the price you where happy with. Lastly no one can know everything. I remind him of that advice when I see him at weekenders complaining that 'They are selling my records'
