  1. The guys down under do it all the time for 'The National', interesting way to promote your venue.
  2. Then to make it even more authentic, get some of the original record dealers along, get the lady from the coffee bar (If she's still alive) and maybe even Ian Levine handing Richard records from behind the curtain to play.
  3. The whole thing is a bit of a farce. Half the key DJ's from this great club don't speak to each other anymore, different people with little to do with the venue running Wigan re-union nites. Shame someone can't find a nice venue knock all their heads together and do a great one-off Wigan re-union, with Richard, Kev, Russ, Keith, Dave and some of the Mr M's lads all together.
  4. I think it's fair to say this was a big tune everywhere, I remember hearing it at the Mecca, got a copy about a month later and played it at Yate, a floor packer for nearly a year. Many of these relativly new releases would get picked up on by most of the clubs of the time, The Mecca, Cleethorpes, Yate and even Wigan at times, often Richard Searling and (Believe it or not) Keith Minshull, playing them there. Great tune!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Hi All Bunch of new stuff just gone up, including some great Gospel. www.topdogrecords.co.uk What's New 45's-Ebony Jam, Esquires, Karen Pree, Rain, Little Archie, Parliments, Soul Patrol 12"-Al Hudson, Atlantic Starr, Kenny Hamber LP's-Spanky Wilson, Easter Marrow, Gary Glenn CD- Macs & Rumplestiltskin, Herb Lacy Hope you find something you like Dave & Malayka
  6. Also the the original has a more mate finish to the label, boots has a gloss finish, looking at the other mark mentioned before, it looks more like a 'L' in a 3/4 circle. The scratched in matrix reads GSFS 1179 on one side and GSFM (N80-scratched through) 1179 on the flip run out. The S & M for the mono/stereo sides
  7. Just read your post Pete, I didn't realise he lived that far down, thought it was New Jersey, stand corrected
  8. I think New Jersey way, not as far up as Boston, also there are alot of soul fans in and around the N.Y. area, or doesn't that count as east coast
  9. Where's Simon M he's usually good with these things
  10. It was a 70's thing
  11. Dave Withers, DJ'd at Yate, Wigan and finally Stafford, before hanging up his gloves. He discovered, along with his buddy Rod Shard so many tunes we now love, also one of the first dj's to get all the un-released motown stuff. One of the nicest guys you gonna meet, now lives on the east coast of the U.S.
  12. Hi I agree the 45 did appear a while after the 12", used to see shed loads of the 12" on the east coast of the U.S. I've got one (12") on the site at the mo for £55 www.topdogrecords.co.uk
  13. I've just checked the link and it works fine
  14. Hi Guys Have a customer who would like to indentify this track. It a boogie tune. 15. Hi Stuart Fantastic photo
  16. Also Mick Smith had a copy about then. Funny little story, there is a very big collector in Berlin, a doctor I think. He remembers hearing this as a new release on U.S. forces radio from the west coast in the 60's and got a copy from the states.
  17. Also the sleeve on the re-issue is a gloss, where as the original is matt
  18. No, I can stop any time I want
  19. Clyde Milton-I'd rather leave on my feet-Disco Tac The versions by Emanual Laskey, Forth Day and Magnificents, RS had it the early 80's but this version wasn't know about until Bretby time
  20. More than worth it, see you tomorrow nite Mate in Detroit gave it to me for DJing for him.
  21. Hi Tony Someone must have really believed in that record for it to get released so many times on all those artists But your right don't remember it until late 80's at least
  22. Russ the side I played the other week is the other side about 4 posts earlier, not the one you've listened to
  23. Hi Russ Willie White-Nobody likes me/I'm leaving-Gold Soul
  24. I had it covered up at Yate as The Del Larks-The Dance way back in 78, was un-covered by the time Stafford came around, but that was a time when records had a much longer shelf life
