  1. d' Kalendars feat Ike Noble-Hotter than heat -Now sold out!!!!!!!!!
  2. Yes, wish I could find more of them, not easy at all, infact would say it's the hardest one of theirs and the toughest to find on the label 'Note'
  3. £300, but could have sold it 10X over the number that asked for it.
  4. Just like to say thanks to everyone that has gone to the trouble of putting up sound files this year. Found so many new tracks to look out for and a few to play out. The diversity of material has been mind boggling, from mmmmmmmmmmJazz, soul, gospel, house and back to soul again. Shame none of you took up the challenge for some soulful Hip Hop , but maybe next year. Anyways, off to see Mark and Dawn, so all you groovy cats have a very happy christmas and even more soulful new year. Love Dave PS Baz A your a star , may your computer run un-interupted
  5. Time for a new thread. So much nice stuff that is only availble on the little shiny discs, for those of you that don't like them some good stuff to discover.
  6. Sounds like funky rock band, like Blood Sweat & Tears etc
  7. Personally I think they have missed the mark badly. If they think to get sales they needed to put together a set of more commercial tracks so joe bublic will buy them. Wrong, as they don't buy wax records. If they are aimed at collectors, most have these tracks and would rather have the originals and would be looking for tracks that they couldn't get any other way on wax ie un-released Another example of how Motown over the recent years have lost touch with their market. IMHO Dave
  8. Also that nice Marc Forrest in Berlin has or had one
  9. Came out twice the other one WTR-325 credited to Back Lash, but they are the same recording. I play it out from time to time, as does that nice Arthur Fenn chappy, he has the LaQue copy.
  10. Must say I haven't been on there for a couple of months. But of the first 800, items when using 'Highest first' filter less than 10% are auction, the rest are buy now or best offer/buy now. So why do we think this is ? I even notice on Ebay Inc that the number of 'buy nows' over straight auction have increased. Even when things go for auction many are with very high opening bids and closing un-sold or with just one winning bid. I know everything is tight for us all, but what else do you think is driving this. ?
  11. Mind you still easier than buying things from the states back then Send for a list(2-3 weeks) List arrives (often with no phone number) Send requests back (2-3 weeks later a reply) Send payment (2-3 weeks records arrive)
  12. Post Trumatic Soul Bowl Syndrome Mine was caused by having to use the phone in joinery workshop where I did my apprentership (A bit like job seekers training for you young ones). Dirty looks from the forman and the odd shout of 'are you gonna do any fecking work today'. Then just as I did get through, someone would start up the circlar saw, only to hear a voice at the other end say 'What did you say, I can't hear you' then line goes dead.
  13. They have the same attitude as the guys that run the Ann Arbor soul club, it's a joy to dj with them when I'm out there. The U.S. scene is different, but the guys are so into it, nice people and they know how to party.
  14. Hi Got one on our site www.topdogrecords.co.uk Dave
  15. John's contribution to the rare soul scene has been emense. Those that came to the scene in the mid 80's onwards will never fully appreciate how important this guy was. Still to be found selling records as others have said and occasionally at venues too. He is the very tall grumpy scotsman in the record bar at Cleethorpes "these people are all selling my records" . Love him to bits
  16. Yes I love the Chosen Few version, but what a killer flip on the Crown Four. You just have to have both
  17. Hi Seb Thanks for that, I have to disagree on the versions thing. In so many ways 'Birth of a playboy' is different. One example is towards the end of the Crown Four there is vocal fad out, where as on the Chosen Few this is re-place with horns. Also on the Chosen Few, the horns are very to the forground, on the other they are lost in the back ground. They may have used the same recording, but they are diffrently mixed.
  18. Some people say they can't see the soul in them, but for me they are ofter the chance for the un-sung hero's, the musicians to show off their skills
  19. Mike your contribution was appreciated
  20. Thanks Val So Dave has mixed up the info for The Crown Four and Chosen Few on his site.
  21. OK the reason for the question is that I have a Abtone studio disc. One side is 'Birth of a playboy' and the other is 'Description of my girl'. Listening to it, it plays BOAP one side and the other side plays 'Love for my girl', as per the Crown Four release, now that I have found short clips of them in the Refo libarary I know it's a studio disc of The Crown Four. But I wonder if the original title was DOMG for the other side. Finally I notice on Dave Rimmers site he list the the a side as 'Taking all the love I can/Birth of a playboy' Is that another release or a mis-print
  22. So Crown Four and Chosen Few, I think the link between the two is that Roy Handy was in both groups, can anyone confirm that. Are there any other versions!!!! Can anyone post up a sound file for Crown Four and the flip side 'Taking all the love' Thanks For your help Dave
  23. Hi guys How many version of 'Birth of a playboy' are there ?????
  24. There was a thread about this before somewhere. But when you listen to all the other releases on the label, this does stick out as the odd one. All the others are very contemparary with the time but this sounds out of time. Also Detroit was very aware of the UK northern scene and the sound liked by the time this was recorded, so why not.
  25. Hi Paul Thanks for such an informative response. I did wonder if it was that sort of scam. Have a great one and pass on mine and Malayka's best to that young Miles chappy. Dave
