  1. You need to get him to give you the whole story in his laconic style it's so funny. But basically, so excited to get in there, took forever to persuade them to let him in. Eventually walks in 100,000 records or some big number, everyone James Brown, he was gutted.
  2. Did he ever tell you his Starday/King warehouse story. That cured him of his love for James Brown
  3. Hi Macca Did you get the curry stuff!!!! Check out their great track 'You're a puzzle' Steve Smith put it on a tape for me back in the mid 70's loved it every since. Dave

  5. PS...... Nothing to do with our scene really but DJ Cool Herc, saw him once at a blockparty in New York, the originator of the scratch mix, blew me away. Frankie Knuckles, again only saw him once in a club, killer, just love his mixes/production.

  7. I'm affraid to say I was never that organised, the first 20 odd went out to people that helped get it off the ground, but after that could have been in any order, depending on weather I remembered to take the membership list with me or not. If I didn't, would put on a higher number, record it and fill in the membership register when i got home. After that gaps would be filled in with postal applications. Enthusiastic, always, organised, never!!!!!! Dave
  8. I'm keeping this one, but we've got a few Boogie Man Orchestra copies
  9. Interesting that it got a major label issue in Canada but not in the U.S. Love to hear the mix on the 12" Dave
  10. Has anyone one else seen or got this pressing of the record. I had never seen it before. As you can see it is titled differently, not 'Lady, Lady, Lady (are you crazy for me)

  15. Hi Brett Good to see you the other week, always glad to be of help. ps. I'm starting to stock pile 1210's
  16. Vinyl has become a minority specialist area, fact. Yes a few more discs get released now and again, but as much for there novelty value. Last week Tecknics anounced the end of the 1200/1210 series turn table. It is a dying formate for new product. But it will be around along time, just think how many were made and have been collected by collectors in many musical styles. It will die when there is no longer anyone who cares. On a more positive note, loving this weather. Dave
  17. Have seen it sell for £40+, but this is the Chris Hill re-mix, no where near as good as the UK original on Hit House 12"
  18. I have to say you have all done us proud, big smiles and props out to everyone for gettting in the groove with this one, what better way than to start the year with a big smile Dave
  19. Blackbyrds what a choice, can anyone one put up 'Dream World'
  20. Know where your coming from, love it and this......
  21. I knew he had been un-well for a while, but still sad news all the same.
  22. Don't suppose it's cheap, but The Memphians but a big smile on my face when Jerry recently played it on GFM. Time for a revival, before Mr Hipkiss beats you to it?
  23. There are some tracks that we all take for granted so are never played out. In most cases their worth is very little maybe a few £'s. A few months ago I was in Bamberg with Malayka and we went into the record shop, the guy always has a bunch of nice 70's picture bag 45's, sorting through I pull out a few that I think 'thats nice in a picture bag'. Once back home all get the standard one spin on the decks before being file away on a shelf hardly ever to surface again. But one brought back memories of the mid 70's, good happy soul and made me smile. So instead of filing it, it stayed by the decks and has been played nearly everyday since and every time it makes me smile. Now when ever I get to play at an event I really love doing I try and find and cheap as chips, nice soul record, that may catch everyone a bit by suprise, last year in Bamberg it was Earth Wind & Fire-Get away, the room just loved it. A room full of smiling faces, some dancing, some singing along. So for this years trip to Hip City in Berlin I thought I'll take along my new find. When I played it and the whole room smiled as one, some danced, some sang, some did both, there was a collective moment, when almost the whole room went back to a time when they first heard it or a time when it was being played and we all smiled. So common a record that it gets over looked, shame on us all it's not even in the Refo section, well it is now, just stuck it in there. So, question, what is the track that just makes you smile, cheap as chips, good happy soul music. or have you recently heard a record that had the same effect on the room you where in
  24. Hope so Russ, been banging away with this for 3 three years with a little help from Chalky and Maria O, Proper Detroit group soul dancer.
