One of those tricky names, known as the Pendulum Swingers, Case Band. Pendulum records from 70's Atlanta. This first turn up through John Anderson in the early 80's, value seems to differ a fair bit from £70-£200 depending on what day of the week and who is buying/selling. Same for popularity, some love it others ignore it, I love, always have.

The clue is the label Gene Bro, he was a hairdresser on the west side of Detroit, in fact it is believed by some that he also employed Larry Wright how was also a hairdresser. It was where Popcorn went to get his hair cut.

Generally it seems that many veiw a vinyl release almost as a loss leader to promote CD and download sales for a LP. It's likley that I will fund the 12" release, as I can make a small press make sence financially and let the guys in Detroit do the CD, that way they also make more money.

Been thinking about a four track 12", now I know the love of the 45 on here, but the Funk Factor track is 6mins and isn't the sort of thing you can edit or mix down. FUNK FACTOR-GIVE WHAT YOU GOT-CHE -

Been chatting to Tim in Detroit about the next Detroit R&B Classics release. The question troubling us all is what format to put it out in. Volume one came out in CD format only, but many guys over in europe said they would have liked to have seen it as a vinyl release, if not the whole LP maybe the tracks by Funk Factor. Now it's nearly ready to for volume 2 and again there are some cool DJ friendly tracks on there so do you put out CD again, vinyl LP, 12" single or a 45 of dance tracks. Whats peoples view ???

I do think it is one of the harder releases on the label, but the question is how many is Craig sitting on.

No I think it's a fab southern record and all you that can't hear that have cloth ears:D

Moses was from Greenville, S.C. and if my memory is correct lived there most of his life, although he did travel extensively with his bands including the Dynamic Showmen and The Text Town Display (which included a young Peabo Bryson). I'm sure all the Dynamic Showmen records are from South Carolina. Dave

Hi Bob I agree, when a record starts to go out beyond say $100, then there are some, as you call them 'High Rollers' who get in on the bidding, not all of these so much because they even like the record, but have to be seen to own records that are currently hot topics of conversation. Funny enough when ask and this really has happen to me, I know there Ebay name, they say 'No, I had that for years'

I do find this sort of comment sad. I've known John many years, hell even had the man round my house, with his good lady wife for dinner. His implication that he is some sort of higher being a real soul fan, where as we that inhabit this site or the Northern Scene are some how lesser beings. Bollocks

No tin hat needed, I think like many of us your just getting older, like a good wine, maturing;) Can't beat good soul music, when ever and where ever it's source. Dave

Ah yes Columbia Special Products, I wonder who it was that was advising them at the time.

If Mr 'InvestInSoul' only contribution is to hype the sale of records, then fine but do it in the sales section, thats what it's for. As Memphis is his home town, go out and talk to the artists there and bring back some interesting information that will enlighten us all. Or is he another one that thinks we're all suckers over here that can be used to line his pockets. Bob is a good case in reverse of not always getting what happens over here, but his contribution is immense to the body of knowledge on soul music. Record buying and selling is a key part of our scene, but 'InvestInSoul' is not the B all and end all, wheres the love of the music in any of his contributions to this site so far. Anyway rant over. Back to the record, the B side does fit into that nice layed back southern sound, loved by many, but missed by others. The list is a long one of records with that sound that are highly prized by southern collectors, but leaving others cold. Me I like it, thats why I have kept it all these years and as I said, when played out does get appreciated by the dance floor.

I think as it was a Columbia release, that there were enough copies around to meet demand back then, plus back in the day, people were a little more wary of pressing major label things, as they would come after you.

The producer is the also the guy behind Rokk and a bunch of other nice Chicago things. He lost all his masters which were left at his ex-wifes house on the West Coast.

OK, now it's closed at $635. A nice 45 from Memnphis, I have a copy, really like the 'You mean everything to me' B side, has that nice southern gentle floating sound. Played it at Bamberg to a good response. Think it is a hard to find 45, only ever found the one copy I have in all my trips to Memphis. Dave

Yes does sound like someone trying to hype their own or a friends auction:no: If your so interested in this, why not wait until the auction is over, then everyone can discuss it with a value attached.

The last two copies of Trace Of Smoke to sell on auctions, sold for £850 and £720, both in the last year. Hope that helps Dave
