  1. Hi Steven Got one on our site www.topdogrecords.co.uk Cheers Dave
  2. Hi All Got these on my last trip, I know some of you like to see these. Includes one of the late great balladeer Earl Gains
  3. Hi All www.topdogrecords.co.uk Whole bunch more gone up on the site, some killer funk in there as well as nice northern, modern soul and some cool ballads including........... Shades Of You, Rose Batiste, Apaches, Chet Davenport, Hard Cover, Plair, Sweet Pearl, Johnny Holiday, to name a few. All with sound files. Try and get some more for the weekend, thanks for looking, hope you find something you like. Dave & Malayka
  4. Thanks for all that info, sort of helps. Did this come out on a blue Jaber pressing and what was the b side title on this.
  5. They must have re-mixed it for the 12", but the 45 sounds generally different somehow to how I remember any of the Cleveland Eaton releases. On a side note, I spoke to Cleve when I was in Alabama, he is not well at all, fighting cancer. I wanted to talk to him about his time in Chicago working at Chess, but he wasn't up to it. Dave
  6. Hi All Picked up a copy of the first issue in the states of, Garden Of Eaton - Bama Boogie Woogie - Cle-An-Thair 45 Does anyone remember if this is a different mix/version to the later version that came out under the name Cleveland Eaton
  7. Think the Louisville address is a bit mis-leading. A couple of buddys in Louisville, who claim to have or know every Louisville or related record. Say that no one that was involved in the music scene there has ever heard of the group or any of the people involved. These two guys were very much part of the scene there in the 60's and 70's, one was a member of The Heartbreakers.
  8. They came from an old producer that used to live in Detroit.
  9. Pleased to see that they have been able to get this one off the ground again. Just in time for the pre-christmas shopping and a trip to one of those fantastic Lebonise restaurants they have there.
  10. A copy of Tony Middleton on Storm a few months ago at a Gloucestershire boot fair
  11. Thanks for all that have contacted me about The Camaro's. It's simple, it's very rare and if no one feels they can meet the price I'll keep it. Had a couple of offers close, but thats what I want for it. Cheers Dave
  12. Hi All www.topdogrecords.co.uk Still working hard at getting more on the site from the trip, loads more nice stuff, including.... The Camaro's, possibly the first copy in 10 years for sale, in that time there have been 4 Del Larks, 2 Robbie Lawson, 3 William Powell, both Combinations. This is a very rare record and a stunning Detroit 2 sider. Others added included... Leroy Barbour, Trey J's, Karen Striblin, Ruby Andrews, Jackie Beavers Show, Captain Fantastic, Antonio, Electrifying Cashmeres, Special Delivery and many more, all with sound files. Thanks for looking and hope you find something you like. Dave & Malayka
  13. PS, if he cares that much about it, he could donate the collection free to The Smithsonian
  14. Trouble with this guy and many like him is he got to emotionally involved in the records as a collection and as such see every thing at a retail/collectors value. I have a buddy in Louisville, he has a great 45 and lp collection, all R&B and Blues. He wants to sell it as a single sale, but he is never gonna get what he wants for it. When he talks about whats in there he gets all emotional and say this books at this and this books at that, his valuations are all top of the market. As someone else said there are lots of big stocks of records dotted round the states, but they will never sell at the prices these guys value them at. I was shown a collection in Atlanta of over 2million 45's, in an air condition facility, ever thing filed. But the guy was talking about numbers that would make a banker go weak. In the end when these guys die they get broken up and sold for peanuts buy family members who don't know or care.
  15. Hi Alison Not bad, 2000 miles in 9 days, some sleep, but not much and lots of junk food. Some great artist met along the way, Arthur Ponder and Sideshow at 1am in the back end of nowhere, a fun day at Royal studios in Memphis and a crazy time in Louisville over Labour Day Dave PS and the coolest piece of soul music memorabilia, a microphone used by many of the soul greats for recordings.
  16. Hi All www.topdogrecords.co.uk Been busy all day getting those new things we found in the states on the site, more nice northern, modern, crossover, funk and gospel gone up, including Ann Sexton, Lou Roberts, Superior Elevation, Mind Liberators, Randy Brown, Supreme Jubilees feat Franklin Myers Plus these from this mornings post Continental Showstoppers, Jackey Beavers Show, Mighty Elegants, Attractions, Dramatics, Electrifying Cashmeres, Antonio, Bobby Womack, plus loads more, all with sound files, most in Mint condition. Hope you find something you like and thanks for looking Dave & Malayka
  17. There seems to be some confusion here. DT label was owned by Dennis Tally, hense DT. Disco Tac was Clyde Miltons own label which he put his version of 'I'd rather leave on my feet' on. But he also worked with Dennis on several of the DT recording and is credited as such. Odell Bailey was a good friend of Dennis and helped him with distribution of his product, but he did not have any ownership of the DT label. Odell owned Millage, Single B and a couple of others. Millage is not a truely Detroit label as some of the artists were recorded in Phittsburg and the label had a Phittsburg address, Odell commuted between the two cities. Dennis and Odell have now both passed.
  18. Hi Sean Thanks for that, did know it came out twice. I understand that the blue pressing is a different mix. Can anyone confirm the a and b side for the two pressings Orange and Blue Dave
  19. Hi Guys I've just got a copy of Jackey Beavers - Lover come back - (Orange) Jaber The flip side has two labels. The top one is 'Gee you're a pretty thing' which is credited to The Jackey Beavers Show, but underneath is another label with 'I hate to see a man cry' credited to Jackey Beavers. Both have the same matrix number on the label JB7111. Anyone know the story on this. Dave PS, just put a whole bunch of stuff on the site, www.topdogrecords.co.uk

  22. Not been to N.Y. in a few years, but there used to be a few nice little shops down in the village and still a few out in the boro's. Also have a friend there that always has some nice stuff and he might be able to guide you round a bit. Will PM you with his email. Cheers Dave
  23. Hi Nick One of the harder Arista releases, much harder to find than say, Mandrill - Too late, which pops up on ebay nearly every week, but still sell for £40-£60. By that measurement Hirosihima should be £100 + hiroshima - never ever -
  24. Hi Dave Good to see you in Brussels. Agree on the Alicia Myers, but the Hiroshima has always been hard to get, anywhere between £25-£50. Popular tune back in the day at Stafford, but otherwise still only really know to collectors. It's a stunner. Dave
  25. PM me and I'll check how many I've got left Dave
