  1. This was the last stand for our generation, so to speak, sadly in the end the authorities killed it. After that myself and many others took a step back and let others fly the flag. Not to say I have lost any of my passion, just have a more measured view of things now days. Was proud to be involved it the event, but like any of the things I did back in the day, it was always a team effort, many people made it happen and help to make it the limited suscess that it was.
  2. Although it's on a Detroit label, don't think it's a Detroit recording, production is credited to Willie Mitchell. Can't think of any Detroit recording that he has produced on, unless others know different.
  3. Also forgot to mention for those that like the Gospel/Modern soul feel, we also have some nice hard to find Detroit Lp's in the LP/Gospel section also.
  4. Stone mint at a mere £25.00
  5. Hi John As far as I know they are the same recording, just first local release, then national with Revue. Just found some Sir Rah white demo's, they do look rather nice. What a stunning tune in any format. Dave
  6. Hi All www.topdogrecords.co.uk Just completed a big update of the Deep and Gospel sections of the site, some nice rare and just plain good stuff there. Some fast sellers on the new arrivals, but lots more under the Deep and Gospel headings, inc Jim Coleman - Sir Rah W/DLarry HolmesExcited UnlimitedDon McClain & The Electrifying CashmeresConvertersMessiahs Of GloryWalter HatchettWorld WondersKeith Chism & LightSupreme JubileesWillie BanksAnd lots lots more, most with sound files. Thanks for looking, hope you find something you like Dave & Malayka
  7. Mike's studio is in Crawley, Louisiana, think it's still opperating. If this record came out on Bad Weather and Maison De Soul, then it would be a Louisiana/New Orleans related relaese. As to more information, what are you looking for, value ?, rareity ?, as the general lack of response would say it's probley not that well know, or easy to find. Why not put up ascan and a sound clip
  8. Like your approach, hope you get one Cheers Dave
  9. Hi I agree the last few post have also provided me with info I didn't know, so sorry about the shit I gave you Dave
  10. Don't come the 'inferior knowledge' thing. You know more than most. So why not share more of the good stuff you do know.
  11. No, as you can see I'm still not feeling that great and pretty grumpy:D
  12. Joan all of above I agree with and know, but your missing the point. Asking if it's OK to do this or that, like there is a book of rules that have to be observed
  13. Agree totally, who cares. Please post up something about a record that most of us don't know, so we all learn something coming on this site, information about artists, labels, venues, records. But is there now 2, 3 , 10, 30 copies in circulation, please!!! Yes I'm having a bad day, ready for all comers
  14. Yes I know Joan, but mores to the point, what up with all these 'rules'. People asking if it's OK to do this or that, just go out and have fun, be of your own free mind. Some times you please people, sometimes you don't, but just have fun. I just get this horrible feeling that there are people sitting around at venues taking meticulous note on everyones behavour, instead of just haveing fun. When did it stop being just good fun.
  15. I can remember many of the DJ's back in the day would play records more than once over a evening, if it was new or something that was breaking. Richard Searling would often play a record in his early spot at Wigan and then in his late set again if he was trying to push it. Keb and Guy would often play a record twice in the same set, hell Keb even played some records several times over until people started to dance to it. It would go something like this "I'm going keep on playing this F@#&ing record, until you F@#&ers dance to it" But there again all you young bucks have rules and heavens forbid if someone should stray from the rightous path.
  16. Thanks for everyone's help, we've now spoken Dave
  17. Hi George You sent me an email, but your email is set up not to recieve replys, so hard for me to respond. If anyone know him and can pass on a message please do Dave
  18. Hi All www.topdogrecords.co.uk Whole bunch of cool 45's and Lp's gone up this week, loads of sound files. Over 150 new titles across the site, Northern, Modern, Boogie, Funk and Gospel. Also don't forget we always will concider like for like trades. Were here to try and help you get those elusive tunes, "From the hard to find, Too the just plain good", including......... 45's - Vines, Bemis & Co, Betty Wilson & The 4 Bars, Wendell Parker, Soul Continentals, Mayberry Movement, Billy Eckstine, Fourth Day, Garland Green, Gloria Jay, Lainer & Co.LP's - Ace Spectrum, Anacostia, Fuzzy Haskins, First Love, Blue Notes, Black Ivory, Gil Scott Heron & Brian Jackson, Halloween, Luther, New Directions, Sandra Feva, Special DeliveryThanks for looking, hope you find something you like Thanks Dave and Malayka PS Hope some of you can make it to a great night out in Paris
  19. PS loads of records, but not always that good. Went through an old juke box operator a few weeks ago, 10,000 45, hardly any soul at all, every card for even the common stuff was empty, I even mean Marvin Gaye, Dells, Joe Tex, you name it all gone. But I did find a mint Leroy Barbour on Frontersman, must have looked like a country record to the unknowing, so it had been left. But you do need to dig as I said before, some guy came on this site last year from the states and said that there was no vinyl left in his town!!!!, had he dug a bit deeper he would have found out that there is a warehouse there with close to a 1/4 million 45's mainly black music. Most creat diggers know it and it's been well picked over, but always fun for half a day mooching round the devastation that is left.
  20. Hi John Think that question has been asked on here before. Think there have been finds there in the past, but don't think that there was ever a local black music scene there, so the only records would be major label stuff and stuff sent in from other parts of the states. As for the states in general, loads of records still, but you do need to dig a bit deeper now days. The days of going anywhere and opening the yellow pages have long gone. Hell many local yellow pages don't even have a CD or Record classification anymore, I know because I always check. As for shops and dealers lots have been written on here about that in the past, few shops left and many dealers just want to sell, what they think is the good stuff on Ebay. Happy days
  21. Thanks for the great response, whole bunch of trades now going through. Most of you have really got into the spirit of this, helping each other get a nice tune for trades. On the bigger ticket things, very happy to trade, but in return for a simular value record or a 2 for 1. 30x £10 records for a £300 one , not really what I looking for. But always ready to look at what you interested in. Cheers Dave
  22. Also forgot, if you fancy a nice weekend in Paris
  23. A lovely weekend in Paris
