  1. We pride ourselves on having a wide selection of modern in 45's, although independat labels started to dry up come the 90's, as many switched to CD formate. But we also have a large selection of harder to find indi cd's as well. Also lots of sound files to help with stuff you don't know.
  2. Well the sad news is that he died some 15 odd years ago, spoke to a close friend of his earlier today. He was clearly admired in the Phittsburg area by other artists and muscians from what I have been told. Shame none of us over here got to meet him and learn more about his musical life, but it just makes me more determined to meet or speak to as many as possible and hear their story and record what I can, while the oppertunity is still here.
  3. Sad news indeed, my thoughts are with his family. His fanzine was one of the first I read when I was a young buck. Later I got to know him through people like Guy Hennigan on my early visits to Wigan, such a great guy. Dave
  4. Hi Thanks for that, yes I found that site also and have asked a few on there for help. I see that he spent some time at Motown, but they felt his voice was to like Jerry Butler, so didn't develope him. Also he played guitar on some of The Marvelette's recordings.
  5. Searching the web I found a blog that says he was from Pittsburgh. Now I know this is a long shot but he has one title in his catalog call 'Going home to Georgia', but often song title like that had some truth. I'll try some digging using those two refernce points, but any help from anyone would be helpful. Cheers Dave
  6. I have always love this guys voice from first hearing him played at The Mecca as J.G. Lewis. His vocals are so distinctive, anyone know where he was from ? Trouble is it's a fairly common name so not so easy to track down, but was thinking he has such a rich set of recording, that I would love to find him and maybe even see if I could get him over here.
  7. Feel free to add more to the listing

  16. The particular problem with this record, has always been the discussion about it originality I'll give anyone £100 for one if they can't sell it:D
  17. I know this sounds incredible, but a friend in Germany had a package opened, they then found his Ebay account went back through his purchases and presented him with a bill on the asumed import back tax owed on all his purchases over a number of years and we talking a big tax bill.
  18. What concerns me more is you start getting packages, where customs say.... 'Whilst doing a security check, we found that this records had been under valued. Here is a bill for the true duty on this package' I know in europe, several friends have had their packages open, the respective departments have then reappraised the value and presented them with massive duty un-paid bills to get their record back.
  19. Your right, it comes in straight on the count in intro, but with out the drunken part as with the original LP, Champagne 12"/7" and the French 45
  20. Below is a note I got from Jeff about a new relaese he has in Boston. Hi there, I wanted to let you know about a new soul artist we are releasing on November 16th. The band is a local soul group from Boston called Jordan Valentine and the Sunday Saints. Growing up Jordan was heavily influenced by her mother's southerncooking and love of Motown. Now Cultures of Soul is putting out their first 7 inch with two great tracks. The A side is a masterful cover of "Tell Me What's On Your Mind" and the B side is an original sister funk track with howls of joy reminiscent of Betty Davis. Here is a link to hear the tracks and for more information: https://www.cultureso...unday-saints-2/ If you are interested you can order directly from us or from Crosstalk International. Thanks, Jeff Jeff Swallom Founder / Label Manager / DJ Cultures of Soul Records www.culturesofsoulrecords.com
  21. As far as I remember U.S. 45 was released around the time of the original LP. But when it was first played on the northern scene, The Mecca and then Wigan and a host of other venues it was from the LP with the spoken intro. I don't think the French one or the Dutch one came out until a year later and I think few were even aware that it had come out over there.
  22. I've got the 12" on this, how long is the 7" track ?
  23. Thanks Pete Pretty sure the spanish 45 must be the Arista version.
  24. Is this the version that came out on Arista in the states?
