Sad news that Larry Hancock of the Cleveland group S.O.U.L. has just passed away. This information has just been passed on by Al Boyd of The Imperial Wonders. added by site Sad news , some links to further reading.. Originating in Cleveland, OH, S.O.U.L. stood for "Sounds of Unity and Love." The members were Lee Lovett (bass), Gus Hawkins (sax/flute), Paul Stubblefield (drums), and Walter Winston (guitar). Larry Hancock (vocals/organ) was added in 1971 and Bernard (Beloyd) Taylor (guitar) replaced Winston in 1972. All had been involved in music before the formation of S.O.U.L. The fellows entered a battle-of-the-bands contest in 1970, sponsored by the May Company department store in Cleveland, WHK radio station, and Musicor Records. The group won the first prize of 1,000 dollars and a recording contract with Musicor. They traveled to New York City in 1971 and recorded a 45 entitled "Down in the Ghetto Parts I & II" which exceeded the expectations of Musicor by doing so well regionally. They cut a second single, then were invited back to New York to record an album..... Jackey Beavers I Need My Revilot
Dave Thorley replied to Prophonics 2029's topic in Look At Your Box
Although it's sells for less, I think 'Lover come back/Gee you're a pretty thing' - Jaber is much rarer and equally as good double sider. -
Go Ahead.....Richard Searling's New Label
Dave Thorley commented on Goldsoul's article in News Archives
Cheers for that Chalky, I know Richards stuff is legal. I was replying to the other post about the artists, if they don't own the rights to the songs, it is unlikely they would be paid, but the publishing company or writers will be. Dave -

Depends if they own the rights to the songs. I understand Richards stuff is all correctly published and who ever is getting paid. -

Hi Graham Original copies can sell for £500+ depending on condition. Sold a sealed copy a couple of years ago for £700. But it also got a legal re-issue here in the UK, which you can pick up for £15+, this came with the bonus of 'I was born to love you' on it, which wasn't on the original. Think there are a few copies on Gemm at the moment. Dave

Agree with Sutty, you can buy it now from several sellers for £50-£70

Little Rena Scott - I Just Can't Forget That Boy
Dave Thorley replied to Premium Stuff's topic in Look At Your Box
Hi Harry Could well be that he was, it rings a bell with me too. It was George McGregor who told me about Butch and the changes in Gaslights/Gaslight. Mind Butch could have stayed with the group through all it's changes, but maybe not as lead singer. Cheers Dave -
How Many Versions Of 'what Does It Take'
Dave Thorley replied to Dave Thorley's topic in Look At Your Box
a few more, Buddy Miles & The California Raisins, Bay Brothers, Motherload, Kenny G. -
Hi Carl I'm with you, we pressed 500 copies of The Rotations last year and all but sold out in a month. Our next release 'Todays Soulful Sound Of Detroit' LP, out in february, will also be on vinyl, Archers in Detroit are currently doing the test pressings for me now. Long live this archaic format, 'Can't beat the thrill of holding a new buy in your hands' or digging through a basement of records looking for that elusive record.

One more I just found at home Superband - M.A.E. from Alabama -
I'm sure we've had this before, but keep tripping over more versions. Bristol, Fuqua, Bullock must have earned alot from this song. Here a few new ones to me... Dee Dee Warwick - Call Me LP Downbeats - MCA (Reggae version)

He is sadly now not in the best of health and living in a nursing home. Many of his old buddys call on him and sit with him to chat about back in the day.

I was there the night it happen, The Carstairs was palyed for the first time, someone shouted 'this is the end' and threw himself off the balcony. It was later rumoured to be Pete Smith but this could well be 'urban myth'.
