  1. Watched Dr John and his Night trippers perform at Bickershaw festival May 1972 at about 3am in the morning they did a fantastic set in the pouring rain very atmospheric with voodoo themes influencing the New Orleans music Dancers, full band ect. top performer Kind Regards Mick L

Jimmy Ruffin was a gentleman as well as being a top soul singer. as I stated on another thread I had the pleasure of meeting Jimmy 43 years ago and then again 26 years ago ,lucky enough to have supper with him after his gig Jimmy will be truel,y missed but always remembered.   13. Dedjis right the Casino changed its name from the Empress ballroom circa 1967 it held regular soul nights before the all nighters started in 1973. On Sunday and Monday evenings and from 8pm till 11 pm on Saturdays before the beer monsters came in.at the same time as this the Beachcomber underneath had soul nights on for the under 18's Wigan had ALLNIGHTERS running from 1963 the Bluesville club which played R n B Then the Room at the Top club which played Northern as we call it now Stax and R n B the Room was similar to the wheel music wise an d ran parralle to it until 1969. The front entrance to the Casino was just pass the escalators on the right hand side walking into the Grand arcade.The entrance to Mr M,s was 30 metres to your right just before you enter the Grand Arcade. when I worked on the door there I actually used to sleep in the club 3 nights a week.   17. Thanks Dave for confirming what I wrote. If you mention Tony's Blackburn make sure you put empress ballroom in the middle it confuses some of the readers on here .they might mistake it for Lenny Gambles empress ballroom LOL CHEERS MICK l

Good luck with your project,you will need i set of ensyclopedias to cover what happened after Wigan every promoter,every dj every soulie every venue every soulie would have a piece of the jigsaw to make the story the way they saw it after Wigan. Dig a little deeper beyond the usual suspects for stories you might be pleasantly surprised at what you discover otherwise you,ll end up with the same as.there are a good many unsung soul stalwarts male and female who helped to keep the scene going for the last 33 years some sadly are no longer with us but I'm sure their friends and family would love it if they got a little mention in your project.Again I wish you well with After Wigan Stoy.   22. The Film was a damm good effort it did manage to catch the time1974 very well and you could relate too most of the characters a little bit of fiction which explained many facts. kind Regards Mick L
