I Understand exactly where your coming from Len the more soul you've got in you the more you can give out especially with music you can't explain that to people who have not got it they just don't get it. I JUST LOVE MAKING PEOPLE HAPPY giving them good memories and if I can carry on doing that I'm happy when I don't think I can do it anymore I'll not need anybody to tell me to step down I will know and yes Len it is a bit of Magic and personality if you've lived a colourful life it can come across with the music you play to an extent the same record can have a different effect on people depending on who is playing it.some people might try to analyse what I've just said instead of just accepting We all need a bit more Magic in the World especially on the soul scene where people still go I expect to have a good time.Happiness and soul does not depend on record labels and expensive tunes otherwise you end up with schoolyard scenario where the kids all argue who,s got the dearest trainers it's the same mindset nothing to do with soul. keep on Pressing on Mick L

If you can't please them in an hour take a rest.Of course you can clear a floor for 2 and half minutes but not for an hour for Godsakes It's the music put together properly that matters not how much a record costs a bit more substance and feeling for what your doing might help Sorry ! You change direction because obviously what your doing isn't working A DJ playing with vinyl is a live act trying to please an audience you can have a million records you only have usually 60 minutes to play them you have a job to do to the best of your ability and that sometimes means not being too selfish playing for yourself and a few friends and maybe trying to impress other DJ,s.Soulies still love a good night out .Be yourself if your lucky find a style that allows you play the tunes you love as long as your audience thinks the same.Always remember on the soul scene in particular you can't please everybody all the time but you can have a good try. If you can get half a dance floor up its better than none at all then you can build on that.God knows why some DJ.s keep on playing to empty dance floors. it's as if they think that some SOULIES are not as advanced in music as they are so they are having what they are playing no matter what. Or is it God forbid they can't change direction and they've become one trick ponies?Im sure other soulies and Dj,s have their own opinions this is my own and I stress humble opinion God Bless Mick L

Their were dozens of soul records plus r n b and pop soul that made the charts in the 60's and early 70's which were played in soul clubs and Allniters at the time which filled the dance floors. it's just that a lot for a lot of Soulies it was before their time but for some of us we can remember Soul in those days was a lot bigger scene than you can imagine, .Keep on Trucking Mick L

IVe been into soul music n Rn B for over 50 years and if aR n B record sounds soulful its a soul record wether you would call it NS is another issue.It can be the listener,s own interpretation sometimes how they decide this.If it's doo wop soul, 60's pop soul if it's got it its got it.Ive heard over the years certain Dj,s come out with sweeping statements like I can't stand R n b. then when they play their sets you hear them play R n b.Its as if when they play R n B it turns into NS.I remember in the late 80's early 90's some brilliant sounds were found if they were found by the so called elitist DJ,s they were called new 60's if they were discovered by other DJ,s they were called doo wop, rock nroll, or R n B.The matter is very subjective Quite simply there are some fantastic soulful RnB records to an extent where the two genres merge .does it realy matter if it sounds Soulful.? Terrific Insremental very slightly speeded up. still play it out when the time is right Lovely Atmospheric sound A Timeless Tune picked it up for about a £5 Twenty plus years ago It rivals the vocal versions which is realy a big statement. all 3 are terrific. take your pick.. My opinion on this subject and I must stress my humble opinion is that no dj on the northern scene can enhance the music being played by talking in between records telling the audience what label, what colour how much it cost to people who have turned out for a good time.In answering pow wow mik question i beleive the standard would most certainly improve the music would do the talking instead of the dj.a good DJ should should not give a club time to think wether it's 100mph set or a strong mid tempo set he should just be or try to be slightly ahead of the club ready to change direction if need be every time a record finishes and a DJ speaks it breaks the vibe it would certainly sort the wheat from the chaff because a dj would be appreciated for his spot and not for his particular records If people want to know a bit of history about Adj,s records I'm sure they could ask before his spot or after his spot Its the Soulies who matter it is them who part with their money. I am not decrying the soul anoraks here ino each one of you loves your music and you know your tunes I just think that their is a time and place for it not at clubs where people like their chemicals and alcohol. The point made about taking a crowd on a journey is good one I did an article in Manifesto in the90's about the exact same thing with NS It should all be part of the magic of a night out that the Soulies can forget about the outside world for at least 60 minutes with a Dj,s set this somehow seems to have been forgotten or maybe no offence meant some DJ,s can't do it. a top record played taking the crowd one way then it might be another top record but going in a different direction which means in effect if that carries on the crowd has gone no where.The Dance scene of the 90's managed to do this until it lost its way. The journey can produce euphoria and make a good night a brilliant night and it's just my humble opinion that all d DJ,s should strive for that whatever the genre of music.
