I told everybody in my soul World it made ballyhoo out of the Boffins ML

That record was a disgrace totally phoney and anybody who didn't realise that certainly don't know as much about music as they think they do hence the embarrassment from the so called boffins of ballyhoo DJ,s who fell for it, ML

Northern Soul records that should have been hits?
Hooker1951 replied to Jem Britttin's topic in All About the SOUL
For Gods sake don't let Adele or any of the current crop near anything NS, Even no disrespect Beverly Knight they just haven't got it and never will, I'm sorry but I can't detect any real soul or substance in Their voices. Somethings are better left alone ML -
When politicians and Senior Police say "Strong Lessons have been learned from this."No they haven't" When the same people say"It's not in the publics interest"" Who gave them the Monopoly on Wisdom. ? When talking to the Police they always say "I didn't catch your name" That's because you never mentioned it. All the above are a Embarrasment to the Public

Give it a Miss.it will only make you ill, you would have to use Einsteins theory of relativity and quantum physics to even dent NS scene, Then you have to Study for five years, practise for five years then it would have evolved either backwards ,Forward or Sideways so you would be back to square one because it's a way of life complicated but at the same time simple for those who know. Stick to tribute bands in your hotels and I don't mean that in a disrespectful way Good Luck Best Wishes Mick L

It cost 37.5 pence to watch the Tamla Motown revue at the Wigan Ritz in 1965 we were already into the music because we had what were termed at the time soul and R n B clubs not NS although Much of the music would reappear 10 years later and be named NS Keep On Remembering ML

Some of the tunes mentioned on this thread Iwould term crossover but many I wouldn't I suppose everybody has there own interpretation of crossover mine is the productions that have a jazzy cabaret feel about them.I suppose you could say a more sanitised version of soul. it's not for me but neither is Country n Western ML

50 Key Landmark Moments In Northern Soul History
Hooker1951 replied to Mike's topic in All About the SOUL
The year 1965 when soul clubs bobbed up every where, playing Club soul leading on directly to what became the term NS, and the finding of records which were not MAINSTREEM but we're perfect for the atmosphere, Dancing in a dark hot sweaty club. ML -
Great version by George, very underrated British Soul Artist who when he chose that genre of music was very good indeed. Mick L

There are thousands maybe tens of thousands of sounds what sound like Motown,You could fill a book with them on all kinds of Labels and recorded in different cities all over the USA.The Motown Sound in the 1960's was a great innovative genre of music but there were other great recordings from other labels and studios running parallel with Motown producing great sounds. As Regards The Invictus label and it's sounds it was the end of the 1960's and I always though was an extension of Motown carrying on similar sounds into the early 1970's using some of the same staff that Motown used in those great years, but there are subtle differences what NS would notice in all the soundalikes what the man of the street wouldn't notice. keep on trucking ML

Two bands called Tempests out the same time mid to late 60's less than 300 miles apart.one was fronted by Billy Storm at one point. A lot of British bands in the 1960's copied American bands names sometimes unknowingly, sometimes not. A hell of a lot of bands or groups obviously changed there line up,there music evolved over the years sometimes to a degree and not always for the better that they sounded nothing like the original sounds. You have to remember that they were all chasing success and if they found sounds what pleased the masses they made money. Some of the stuff they made later might not sound to us NS fans but it was bread and butter to them keep on Trucking ML

There,s no pretend soul or should I say pretentious soul music been played at Stateside in the three years it's been running even if some of the recordings are not to your personal tastes because myself and Andy Mcabe would never let things slip that far,. Although we cover the full Soul Spectrum we never take our eyes of the target which is Real soul music,. Real soul people that is not a complicated equasion. People have a choice what they like and visit those venues accordingly. It's a fact with any type of music that it gets watered down, it happened with Rock n Roll,R n B,Rave,. To suit for those who it's much to strong, for they like to play at it,. Where as hard core fans love it being the bollocks all the time,. Hence the threads on here, and that's why we're different and proud of it.The difference is we are Old Souls been here before,. They are new souls with a lot of living to do that's not an insult to them it's just the way it is. Best Wishes Keep on Pressing on Mick L

Articles: The Post Wigan Years - Northern Soul
Hooker1951 replied to Chalky's topic in Front Page News & Articles
A nice peice of NS history well documented, and put together well by Chalky,. Just a little oversight Droylsden was promoted by Mark Robinson and myself 1990- 1992 when I was asked by Mark, Dennis and Pete could they take over, at the time due to promoting regular Sat allniters and Friday,s not fitting in to my work schedule I gave it to them on condition that they carried on running it using a familiar format that Mark and myself had been using. Well Done Chalky excellent read. keep on pressing on Mick L- 140 comments

The Wheel And Late 60S Proto Northern Soul Scenes
Hooker1951 replied to Ady Croasdell's topic in All About the SOUL
Ive said it before and I'll say it again there were a good number of NS type venues long before the Casino and the Torch, the Casino itself was playing the term NS at least 3 years before RW and the allniters in 73 I myself started to go on a regular basis to allnighters in Wigan from 1965,66,67 weekly! Every Saturday in fact at the Room at the Top in Wigan market square. Geno Washington and his Ram Jam Band were one of the resident live bands there. This club was running parallel at the time to the Wheel in Manchester, there was at the time lots of venues in the NW playing what was termed NS and the dancing was just the same as it was 7 to 8 years later,Sorry if you weren't old enough to be there but it happened I seen it. Always Remember just because you didn't see it, it doesn't mean it never happened. Keep on Keeping on ML . -
Fantastics - Something Old, Something New 1971
Hooker1951 commented on Venus's video in Artists Singles
Hi Venus They were a regular turn in the Casino 1971,72 when I was a young Doorman there on every 6 weeks are so and always a top act on opposite weeks we had Johnny Johnson n the Bandwagon,Edwin Starr, Jimmy Ruffin, Arthur Conley, William Bell.On the other circuit we had Ben e King, Lou Christie, Jimmy James n vagabonds and plenty more it was 25 p to get in sounds unbelievable but it's true wish I could have filmed them all in their prime for you but still got the memories good luck with your collection. Keep on Keeping on Mick L -
It can be both a Soul and Dance scene if the DJ,s balanced it accordingly, sadly a lot of them can't do it. There are Dance records with soul oozing from them just as there are Soul records which make you want to Dance, thousands of them.Come,on if the dance floors empty all the time change what your doing, adapt to what's in front of you in that particular venue it's definitely not rocket science, people want and expect to dance as well as listen,That,s why they turn out in the first place. You can't always get it right all of the time but you should be able to stop it going wrong all of the time. Keep on Dancing Keep on Listening ML

Towanda Barnes still reigns with this tune. If it was the other way around Towanda would have stole the tune from Lucinda 99 per cent of the time Original is always the best,There are a few exceptions but not many. Those who come first usually win the race Peace and Tranquility ML
